A small OS for Asad and Zoya inspired by http://www.india-forums.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=3408365 by -Racha- . My first one in the forum. Looking forward to the comments. Please forgive the typos.
Asad was tossing and turning in the bed for a while. He could not shake away the protective feeling he has for Zoya since the Mangalpur incident. The sinking feeling he went through when she did not breath, the helplessness, the guilt, myriad of emotions were too overwhelming for him and he was not sure what to do. Somewhere inside his heart she is tugging for his attention and the pull has become so strong that he cannot ignore it any more.
A slight noise from the backyard garden brought him to reality.
Asad peered out of the window. No one. He was sure he heard some noise. He wondered what the security is doing outside. This voice should have alerted them. He made a note to talk to the security head tomorrow. He looked for few more minutes and turned back to get back to bed.
A small shadow fell on him for a second. Asad stopped and his muscles stiffened instantly. He saw a small crouched figure trying to sneak out to the Garden Area from the side window. With a swift move he jumped the window and moved closer to the hooded figure.
He might have weapons.
To avoid any mishaps, Asad wrapped the intruder in a wrestling hold. He was slightly taken aback by the lightness of the trespasser. A muffles shriek broke the silence of the cloudless night.
It's a woman. Damn Zoya!!!
He held her hand and released her from his iron grip.
"Shhh'..What the hell are you doing at this time of the night."
He asked in a deadly hushed tone increasing the grip on Zoya's fidgeting hand. Zoya gave her usual I-have-no-clue look, blinked for some time and was trying to explain how she landed up here by sleepwalking. It does not take a second for him to realize she is lying.
"Really!" Asad tilted his head in annoyance.
His mocking tone escaped Zoya.
"Yes, Mr Khan, I have a habit of sleep walking since Childhood. I used to go to shopping and come back in sleep. You will not believe me, one day I even went to watch a movie'. " She babbled away like a small kid.
Asad who was ready to pounce on her for this untoward behavior of Zoya was eyeing her sharply. Is she mad for real? How can this girl be careless by roaming around at night!
Something moved behind Asad and Asad turned towards left to see a piece of a dark cloak moving near the garden gate. She left Zoya's hand and was about to spring in that direction when Zoya jumped in front of him and stopped his way.
"What?" Asad almost shouted."Move away"
Too late, by the time he reached the back gate the area was empty. Asad trotted back toward Zoya seething with anger.
"Who was it? You better look for some other house if you want to meet your lover at night." He shrieked. The moment the words came out of his mouth, he realized the gravity of it. He heart clenched in some unknown pain.
"I did not know you can stoop to such level. Seeing a lover at this odd hour of night? It's not becoming of a good lady. I know how shameless you are. But I did not expect this." Words poured out of him like poison. He was mad, mad at the way things are now.
Zoya was looking at him with a bewildered look. She opened her mouth to say something and he shouted loudly gripping her wrists again.
"Out of my house. Now". In that moment of anger, he pulled her closer to him exactly not knowing what to do.
"Mr Khan, let me explain'' Zoya still had that confused look. Her slight figure shivered a little with the proximity. The idea of Zoya meeting someone at night throbbed in his head. Her eyes, which has so much innocence, betrayed me. She was supposed to be mine. Only mine. The realization startled him more than anything else.
"Out.". He roared, pulling her closer, trying to control the sadness bubbling beneath the anger. The whole house came into light with that roar. Dilshad was the first one to enter the scene followed by Najma. Zoya panicked and pushed Asad hard to free herself from his arms. He stepped away just a second before Dilshad came in.
"What happened, Asad?"
Asad kept staring into Zoya's eyes and said nothing. Dilshad turned towards Zoya putting an arm across her back to comfort her.
"What happened dear? Did you guys fight?" She held Zoya a little tighter.
Tears pooled in Zoyas eyes but even before she could reply, Najma muttered looking at the dark garden side disbelievingly .
Asad and Dilshad looked in that direction and saw Mariam standing near Garden chair. Dilshad immediately went near Mariam and held her hand affectionately.
"What happened, Mariaum? Why are you here at this time?"
With quick exchange of information, mariam was escorted to the house by Dilshan and Najma. While Mariam described the story of her escape from the marriage functions to the Mother-Daughter duo, two lone figures were left stranded in the garden area.
"Mr Khan'" Zoya addressed him with an accusing tone.
Though not exactly happy with the arrival of Mariam, Asad was relieved to his core. He even suppressed a glee. Now its her turn.
Zoya was giving him daggers.
"See this is what is wrong with you Mr khan. You are always like this. Judgmental. Even if I am seeing someone at night at this time of night, will you have the courtesy to ask me why I am doing that before jumping into your own conclusions? I know..you are always..." Her rant was unstoppable. He shook his head to come out of the silent reverie of the bursting volcano named Zoya.
"Miss Farooqi." He cut her mercilessly. Asad could not help the kidding tone of his speech.
"Why didn't you call any of us before going out to address this matter of national emergency? You are just being impulsive. Isn't it?" He even let out a slight smile.
"Now Miss Farooqi, Time to go back to bed and No roaming around at night."
Just like before he pulled her closer but with much gentleness and mouthed in a husky tone.
"Good night Miss Farooqi."
Giving her an endearing smirk, he walked back to his room peacefully leaving a stunned Zoya behind.
