A scene from Race 2Prasanna D Zore feels Race 2 is worth a watch.

Tightly done action sequences, lots of glamour and one liners that cater to the classes and the masses is what makes Race 2 worth a watch.

Thankfully, after a long time the director duo of Abbas-Mustan have got a winner in their hands with this sequel as they handle this suspense-thriller with the panache that reminds audiences of Baazigar [ Images ] and Khiladi.

Beautiful locales that spin across Turkey add to the visual treat even as Deepika Padukone [ Images ] and Jacqueline Fernandez [ Images ], with their beautifully-sculpted bodies add to this tightly woven story of betrayal and survival. However, these two gorgeous damsels need to do more if they want to be taken seriously by their fans as well as Bollywood.

The surprise package of the film is the fruit-chomping Anil Kapoor [ Images ] and his nutty assistant Ameesha Patel. Anil Kapoor with all his vulgar one-liners caters to the masses; so does his horny assistant Patel as she keeps seducing her boss whenever the duo get screen time.

The real treat of the film, however, are the lead actors -- John Abraham [ Images ] and Saif Ali Khan [ Images ] -- as they intelligently plot against each other: one to seek revenge and the other for his lust for money.

One needs to make a special mention of the on-the-foot-then-car-and-boat chase between an assassin and Saif, ala Jason Bourne [ Images ] style as they whiz past stylishly making you believe the chase is for real. Another edge-of-the-seat sequence is when Saif diffuses a bomb -- remember Keanu Reeves [ Images ] in Speed -- from under a car as Deepika speeds amidst chaos all around.

That's definitely a first for a Bollywood film to have such incredible chases and yet make them believable. If at all Salman Khan [ Images ] decides to make a sequel to Ek That Tiger, one would request him to get the action director of Race 2 on board and erase the bad memory of a similar Jason Bourne-like chase in Ek Tha Tiger.

While the ensemble cast has done a super job of making a gripping thriller -- would call it a thriller rather than a suspense-thriller because the suspense is very predictable -- after a long time in Bollywood, the climax and music are the two sore points of the movie.

While the music jars your senses, the climax action sequence aboard a private jet makes one feel like watching a circus: especially the scene when Saif and Deepika dash out of a plane on fire and four chutes spring out to take them to safety.

One must then watch Race 2 for Saif, who with his polished dialogue deliveries and smart one-liners, Abraham, who has played a scheming businessman with aplomb and of course for all the three ravishing ladies who also know how to act.

Race 2 Friday Box Office Update. Takes Bumper Opening.

Race 2 has taken bumper opening at the box office in its Opening Day. This is extremely good news for all the leading actors, makers, distributors, exhibitors associated with it and specially for film industry. Race 2 looks likely to be the first clean hit of 2013. As per latest reports coming in Race 2 is registering 60-70% occupancy in noon and afternoon shows, which is fantastic.

After a decent start in Morning Shows, where occupancy was around 40-50% on average, Race 2 has gained momentum from Noon shows. Occupancy for Noon shows are around 60-65%+. Many housefull shows are also reported.

As for advance booking for Evening and Night shows, it is very good. Being Republic Day tomorrow audiences are coming in large numbers to Theaters to watch this suspense flick. Many shows for Evening and Night are already Sold Out. Expect an occupancy of 60-70%+ for the night shows going by the early trend. Race 2 is the biggest opener for all actors associated with it. Be it Saif Ali Khan, John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, or rest. Race 2 first day collection will be huge now. Earlier it was expected around 11-12 crore nett mark. But after rocking Noon shows, don't be surpised if Race 2 crosses 15 crore nett mark even.(ShockedBig smile)

My Review:

Terrific SOUND Effex, Signature Tune of Race 1, impact waaley Dialogues... and plus

only 1 thing... SAIF ALI KHAN ... Save this film... Nothing else is good...

Character Ranveer Singh which Saif played from Race 1, he continued to give same attitude, style in this film also, every time u think u know the film, Saif surprises with twist... in whole crew, if anyone who has much more star power, it was Saif only, & he showed it perfectly. Minus Saif & film will fall flat...

Reason 2 watch this movie 1st day only was JOHN only, he was just wasted in this movie, he couldn't create the same Kabir style magic from Dhoom as this was also pure -ve role. Even his fights were not good.

Dpad... what shud i say... dhai kilo ki thigh uski aise highlight kari hai jaise koi aatey ki bori ho... along with jacky only for glam quotient...

Anil Kapoor & Ameesha were kept for laughter part... good ones non-veg full on double meaning dialogues... it wasn't necessary, but ab daal hi diye toh no problem, it  was short so bearable...

Music as i liked only 1 song b4, in hall due to enhance sound quality, i liked other songs also, not that much but ya it was likable...

Action was not that much, saif's stunts n scenes were shot terrifically especially 1 chase scene...

Dialogues - Especially SAIF's dialogues are Super Seeti maaro... "Jab main yahaan se jaounga toh palat ke nahi dekhunga, warna tum sharma jougi..." "aur tumhe toh meri latt lag gayi.. haan..." "... se mila nahi Confidence... Uski photo nahi dekhi Over Confidence"

Would give 2.5/5 for this one...(extra .5 for fun element)

Watch if you love or like Saif from Race 1 & that movie's suspense/twist thing... If nothing Abbas-Mastan didn't disappoint in offering those 3 things from 1st to this one...

John & Dpad played Brother-Sister not real as she was his Half-Sister... No where in movie she has any love making scene with JOHN... is this was rumor anywhere?? if yes, then it's false. Abhi indian movies itni ghatiya nahi hui ke even on this kind of relation they will go so cheap...

Guilty pleasure

Race 2

Rating: 2.5

January 25, 2013

Cast: Saif Ali Khan, John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Amisha Patel, Jacqueline Fernandes

Director: Abbas-Mustan

Race 2 is the cinematic equivalent of a trashy novel. It never holds together as a sensible piece of work, but as an insensible piece of work, it's pretty enjoyable. Director-duo Abbas Mustan create a cocktail of glamorous stars, exotic foreign locations, slick action scenes, and an outrageous plot. At nearly two-and-a-half hours, the film is too long by at least 20 minutes, but I'll give this to Race 2: it's seldom boring.

Never deviating too far from the blueprint of the 2008 film of which this is a sequel, Race 2 pits two suave conmen against each other in a tale of friendship, double-crossings, and revenge. Saif Ali Khan returns as Ranvir Singh, a loaded tycoon with an agenda. John Abraham, meanwhile, is Armaan Malik, a criminal kingpin forever exploiting opportunities to expand his empire.

Set in Turkey, our heroes are surrounded by fast cars and sexy women, and they get rich by swindling casinos, cheating at high-value card games, and stealing prized artifacts from museums. Anil Kapoor is back as RD, former cop and ravenous fruit-eater, and Amisha Patel has replaced Sameera Reddy as his new bimbo assistant, Cherry, whose very name lends itself to a slew of double meaning jokes.

The earlier film, Race, wasn't a particularly smart thriller, but packed with so many unexpected twists it kept you on your toes. The big reveals in Race 2, however, can be guessed from a mile away, robbing the film of any unpredictability whatsoever.

What it's lacking in originality, the film tries to make up for in sheer ambition. Abbas-Mustan don't skimp on any effort to deliver a fast-paced, stylish entertainer, even if much of it turns out to be a hoot. From crazy gizmos that would make James Bond's trusted ally Q turn a shade of green, to the sheer gratuitous skin show on display, Race 2 is a guilty pleasure all the way. Leading ladies Deepika Padukone and Jacqueline Fernandes sportingly show up to show off cleavage and leg, and John Abraham and Saif Ali Khan frequently strip down to their waists in an unapologetic buffet of beefcake.

And yet, compared to so many lazy blockbusters recently, Race 2 is skillfully made and sincerely performed. It's not a film you'll remember years from now, but you won't be moaning and groaning through it either.

I'm going with two-and-a-half out of five for Abbas-Mustan's Race 2. The film has no intellectual pretensions; its only ambition is to offer a good time. In that, it mostly succeeds.
