I don't think it is racism. It is just a portrayal of reality. Many immigrants face discrimination. The movie isn't promoting or condoning such racism. It is merely portraying it. If you look at the bigger picture, the intent is actually to educate and make people aware of issues and prevent it.

Confused Don't get me wrong with the intention of this topic.  SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK is currently an Oscar-nominated film.  It stars Bradley Cooper and Anupam Kher has a supporting role as Dr. Patel (therapist for Bradley Cooper's character).  I am shocked that no article has talked about the Indian racism in the movie.  There is one scene where all the characters go to a baseball game.  And Anupam Kher shows his love for the Philadelphia Eagles.  Then, these people fight with Anupam's character and his friends saying "Take your Curry back to your Country."  Angry   Even though I am not from India, it was in bad taste and I can't believe Anupam would do a role in a movie that is racist against his country.  Somehow, the scene was unnecessary.  Why would INDIAN RACISM be encouraged in a HOLLYWOOD FILM?  This is not setting a good example and I can't believe why Indians are not outraged.  Please share your thoughts.  Should SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK be boycotted for this one scene of INDIAN RACISM?!!!  Cry

He is a gr8 actor...He acted many -ve roles in his career, If a actor do -ve roles or any terrorist role or say anti-indian dialogues...it doens't mean he is a anti-indian or something, Acting is an art...people do different kind of roles in their life as per their wish, when slumdog millionaire released ,people said lots of things,bt it contain little truth and little reality about india,bt some movie script contain over exaggeration about particuler topic...its happens...for that we cant blame a Actor for his roles.Smile

I also want to add that when this happens Bradley Cooper's character beats up the guys for being racist towards his therapist. So on what basis do you count it as an anti-Indian or racist scene. It shows two sides of the coin. On one hand you have ignorant racists and on the other hand you have someone who takes a stand (albeit violent) against it.

There is more reverse racism within India than abroad. The movies typically vilify the Caucasians while taking pot shots at them, Ive seen this many times.

People dont just randomly pick at each other here and call racial slurs, the fear of lawsuits and what not means people are actually much more restrained here than back home where we call out people based on their city, town area etc..
