Kai Po Che!
From the pen of one of India's most popular novelists, Chetan Bhagat, Ster-Kinekor brings viewers Kai Po Che!, yet another heart-warming tale that has made it onto the big screen – this time about friendship, cricket, business, cricket, religion, cricket, politics and ... cricket. Look out for cameo roles by Indian cricketers Ajay Jadeja and Gaurav Kapur in this movie produced by Ronnie Screwvala and directed by Abhishek Kapoor. It opens at Ster-Kinekor Gateway in Durban on Friday, 22 February.
Chetan Bhagat's other novels-turned-movies set new standards in entertainment hilarity. His novel Point Five Someone re-emerged on the big screen as Three Idiots (which broke all opening box office records in India), while One Night @ the Call Centre is known as the smash-hit movie, Hello.
Kai Po Che! is the name Bhagat himself chose for the movie version of his novel, The 3 Mistakes of My Life. It portrays three friends – Ishaan, Omi and Govind - who are battling to overcome their personal demons and who find the clues to their success in cricket. The action takes place at the turn of the millennium, amid a backdrop of religious politics in the city of Ahmedabad. The film will find resonance with South African audiences, where sport has also played a pivotal role in overcoming racial and cultural divides.
Kai Po Che! is all about how friendship (and cricket) help to reinforce our common humanity and how it can in turn overcome issues that threaten to divide us.
The friends are living in exciting times – it's the turn of the millennium, India is a prosperous, growing, nuclear power and they want to get ahead. The trio hit on a brilliant plan – to start a cricket training academy and produce India's next cricketing superstars.
As the story unfolds, Govind (newcomer Raj Kuma Yadav), a keen businessman in the making, makes three mistakes that could lead to both the trio's friendship and fortunes unraveling. His friend Ishaan (another newcomer, Sushant Singh Raiput) is a passionate cricket player who has taken a young Muslim cricketer, Ali, under his wing. Omi (played by Amit Sadh) just wants to be with his friends and not be sucked into the religious politics that are threatening to engulf his family.
Kai Po Che! will be shown at Ster-Kinekor Gateway in Durban from Friday, 22 February.
Appreciating Bollywood at its best is made possible by Ster-Kinekor Theatres – don't miss out on the opportunity to experience these four blockbuster titles on the big screen during February at The Zone in Rosebank and Ster-Kinekor Gateway in Durban.
