This is great news..I always loved Bombay Jayashrees captivating voice.I love her voice when she renders carnatic songs.

Bengaluru: Once again, Indians have much to cheer as the 85th Annual Academy Awards nominations were revealed on Thursday. Carnatic vocalist and leading playback singer Bombay Jayashri has bagged a nod in the Best Original Song category for her rendition for the Ang Lee-directed blockbuster 'Life of Pi'.

Jayashri, along with the composer of the soundtrack Mychael Danna, has been shortlisted for the song 'Pi's Lullaby' in the movie. The song is in Tamil and is played at the beginning of the flick. The singer herself has penned the lyrics of the song.

'Pi', which starred Delhi boy Suraj Sharma in the lead and noted Indian actors like Irrfan Khan, Tabu and Adil Hussain, also gained nominations in the following categories - Best Film, Cinematography, Film Editing, Original Score, Production Design, Best Adapted Screenplay, Visual Effects, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing.

Lincoln, Life of Pi lead Oscar nominations

Jayashri is well known among Indian music buffs for her classical concerts, songs from Mahesh Dattani's 'Morning Raga' and for the popular number 'Vaseegara' from the Tamil film Minnale.

If Jayashri wins an Oscar, she will be the sixth Indian to achieve the feat.

Bhanu Athaiya is the first Indian national who won an Oscar, for Best Costume Design (with John Mollo) for the film Gandhi (1982). India's pride Satyajit Ray received an honorary Academy Award in 1991.

2008 was the best for India at Oscars. Music composer A.R. Rahman won two Oscars - for Best Score and Best Original Song (music) - for Slumdog Millionaire (2008) directed by Danny Boyle. For the same movie, Resul Pookutty won Best Sound Mixing (with Ian Tapp and Richard Pryke). Poet and lyricist Gulzar also won Best Song (lyrics) for the song Jai Ho. However, Gulzar was not present at the ceremony to collect his Oscar.

We wish the Kolkata-born Bombay Jayashri all the very best and have our fingers crossed for the day when the awards will be announced - February 25 (Indian time).
