Chapter Twenty-Four – The Deal
I was hung over…there was no way I was getting up without falling right back down again.
I took a hold of her hand and managed to stand straight.
The entire time she watched me with a smile.
It bothered me.
"What?"
"Oh, nothing…I just thought superstar RK didn't need any help you know."
"Shut up."
"Why! You said so yourself! 'Oh I'm superstar RK! I don't take help from anyone! I'm too cool to t…'"
"Madhu! Fine…let's make a deal."
"A deal? What kind of deal?"
"I'm getting to that! If you'd just be patient."
"Me and patient? RK…I don't think you know me yet."
"I'm glad I don't. Anyways, our deal…if either of us helps the other, then the other person has to help the one who helped them to make it up for it!"
"Huh?"
"I mean…for example, you helped me. Now I have to help you next time to make it equal."
"Actually you helped me first, I just made it equal. You know RK, that basically means we're just going to be helping each other whenever we need it."
"Why can't you just say yes to the deal and stop talking?"
"Because I'm known for talking! I talk a lot! Everyday! If someone needed a person to talk for 24 hours straight and 7 days a week, I'd be the girl!"
I just stared at her. She was crazier than I had at first thought.
I picked up the pot from the ground and placed it on the stove.
She pushed me over and began making it herself.
"You're making it unequal."
"So? It's just chai, besides, I'm making some for myself too! So technically I'm not helping you…I just might end up with, 'extra chai'."
She shot me a smile and continued to make chai.
As I watched her, I noticed all the bruises on her face again. My blood began to boil.
I could feel the anger, the fire building up within me again.
How could someone even think about hurting a person like her?
"I'm going to see him today."
"See who RK?"
"Raj."
Her hands stopped moving and she stopped in the middle of making the chai. She looked at me.
"No. No you're not."
"Yes I am."
"Why?!"
"I need to ask him something."
"Ask him what?"
"There's got to be more to why he hates you. He couldn't hate you so much for only being adopted."
"I don't need any other answers! Why can't you just accept what he said and forget about him?"
"Because, seeing you like this everyday now is starting to bother me."
"The bruises will disappear. And now finally Raj has too, I don't need you going to interrogate him."
"I'm going Madhu and you can't even stop me."
"If you go, you won't find me at home when you're back."
"Are you trying to emotionally blackmail me into staying?"
"No, I'm just trying to stop you from going."
"Same thing."
"Not really RK."
"Madhu, I need answers. And I WILL get them."
"Does this have something to do with your wife?"
"Why would you even think that?!"
"Well why else would you need answers so bad? I said I don't want answers, and clearly curiosity can't be the only thing driving you right now."
"Honestly, you need to get off my back Madhu, why can't you just accept that I DO care."
"Because you're RK. Superstar RK. I'm just a girl."
"Correction, you're Sharma productions owner's daughter."
"I'm a girl off the streets."
"Don't listen to what that leech said."
"RK…I'd rather be a girl off the streets than a Sharma."
"Why?"
"I always hated that family…I never felt like I fit in…I was so different. All they cared about was money and fame…all I cared about was having a good life."
"And they didn…Madhu!"
I quickly turned to look at the chai, which had overflowed into the stove. I turned off the stove and moved the chai away.
Then she spoke, as if she didn't even notice the chai.
"No…they never gave me a good life…I was always stuck indoors. Always…I thought they did it for my protection…but it turns out they just didn't want anyone to know I existed…Now that I think of it…I want answers too RK. I'm coming with you."
"No. You're not coming. If you come, he might not tell me the truth."
"But…"
"I said you're not coming Madhu."
"Fine. But you have to tell me everything when you come back."
"I will."
"Good, now let me finish this ch…where'd the chai go?"
"Finished a while ago."
I held the pot up to show her and then poured it into our cups.
She stared at me with worried eyes.
"Don't worry Madhu, he's behind bars. I'll be fine."
"I'm not worried about that."
"Then what are you worried about?"
"Are you sick?"
"Huh? No why?"
She just stared at me for a moment and then I saw a smile cracking onto her face.
"I can't believe that you, superstar RK, just put in your own chai!"
She laughed and ran past me.
I watched her as she ran out of the kitchen.
Crazy girl, I remember thinking to myself.
I quickly picked up my chai and took it to my room.
I was in a hurry. I needed to get the answers.
Note to readers: The next part is going to bring a shocking twist! Raj will be giving RK all the answers...it'll be updated by tonight. So within 7-8 hours!
