it seems the main reason for this DTH postpone is to reduce movie piracy...

The real and main problem is after the certification of Vishwarooopam Kamal haasan is facing many issue has the film is very experimental so the distributors is not want to take risk on buying Vishwaroopam this is the first main problem so Kamal is don't know what is going to do no one in the industry or even in theatre is not supporting Kamal Haasan at that time itself. So he come up with a brand new idea which is the DTH way but after hearing this new way from Kamal haasan everyone is been shocked and accusing, black mailing kamal haasan actually dth way is the most profitable way sadly no one is not supporting kamal. So theatre owners decided not to screen the film mainly because of the DTH and also the film is experimentation also right.. so they postpone the film but Kamal is fighting lonely for tamil cinema growth even in industry top actors didn't come to support this is real problem he is an one army nu sollanom na athu kamal ku thaan porunthum boss..

This guy is saying is also speaking about the issue which is really harsh but truth.

Kamal's Viswaroopam postponed

Following a fallout with the exhibitors over the DTH premier telecast of the film, the veteran actor has agreed to a simultaneous theatre and TV release on January 25

Kamal Haasan's much-awaited film Viswaroopam, which was supposed to release on January 11, has been postponed to January 25. And as opposed to the earlier decision to go in for an exclusive Direct To Home (DTH) premiere at a cost of 1,000 for Tamil and 500 for Hindi and Telugu, the film will now be released on TV (at the same cost) and in theatres simultaneously.
Confirming the news, PD Prasad of Siri Media, who bought the rights for the Telugu release, says, "After a long discussion with Kamal Haasan, the producer and director of Viswaroopam, the exhibitors have been able to come to an understanding with him late on Tuesday night. As per the new agreement, the exhibitors will release the film in theatres, at the same time as the TV release. The earlier plan to release the film on DTH, 10 to 12 hours before the theatre release, stands cancelled. The date of the release, however, has been postponed as theatres are not available for January 11."
Viswaroopam was in the news for the last few weeks with Kamal Haasan announcing that he was going to premiere his film on DTH, a one-of-its-kind move in the history of Indian cinema. However, fearing huge losses, the film's exhibitors and distributors had threatened to back out as a TV premiere would hit the film's run in theatres.
