Chapter four: The DNA does not match!!!!!
Arnav
started driving after the protest of the vehicles behind him to move forward.
He thought finding Khushi and bringing her home safely would be his priority.
After all, he knew it now that it's his Khushi. He loved her. May be he will
deal with her later for what she did, but he would not let anything happen to
her. After all, she is His.
He
was busy thinking when suddenly he saw a baby girl of 3-4 years of age is
coming at the front of his car. She was so close that he was trying to pull the
brake but was not sure if it would work. Suddenly another girl in wedding
costume came in the midway, lifted the child away in her arms and pushed her
aside but ALAS pulling off the brake was too late. The car hit the girl!!!
THUD!!!!
It
happened all so sudden he didn't have time to see or think anything. He got off
the car. By that time, people started pouring in. The girl was in a wedding
dress!!! Immediately it reminded him of Khushi and she pretty much looked like
her. He froze at the spot.
He immediately pushed the crowd aside, went
near the girl!!!!! "KHUSHIII!!!!!!" He cried out.
"KHUSHI!!! Damn it, Khushi!!! What are you doing here? What have I
done?"
He
bent down, took her in his arms, cupped her face with a crying face and a
broken heart , went very near to her face and cried with anger and guilt
"Khushi, please talk to me". Khushi was still awake. She could
clearly see the panic in his eyes stammering" Forgive me, Arnavji... I didn't
want to leave you... I wanted to be yours...forever. But I feel bliss!!
Every pain ... which was bothering me till now seems to come to an
end...being in your arms... taking my last
breath...A...r..nav...ji..." she closed her eyes with a faint smile.
His eyes widened. It was too much for him to
take in. He was puzzled and at his wits end. He could bear anything but not
losing her.
By
now, the crowd felt that they know each other. Everyone left one by one. Only
he was sitting on the road holding his Khushi his most beloved one in his arms
close to his heart and crying out her name warning to wake her up.
He
realized he needed to take her to the hospital. He carried her to the nearest
nursing home. Immediately stepped in and called out the doctor and the nurses,
"Doctor, my wife, please save her, do something''.please ''"
The
doctor along with the nurses came running, placed her in the stretcher. The
doctor checked Khushi and her pulses and ordered the nurse to take her to the
special ward immediately since her condition is pretty serious. All this time,
Arnav was staring at the doctor and his wife in shock and awe.
Briefing the nurse, the doctor asked Arnav to
come with him to fulfill some formalities. Only then they could start
treatment. Arnav got furious at what the doctor just said.
He said fumingly "Doctor, what formalities??
My wife needs your attention first" to which the doc replied "She might need a
serious operation. That would expose her to huge risk. Sometimes their lives
can't be saved. For that matter, we don't want to take risk of being blamed for
the decision of operation and you need to sign some documents for the same as
you are her husb'." The doctor could not finish.
Arnav
reached out for his collar "mere patni ko kuch nhi hoga'.kuch nhi hoga use'.use
kuch nhi ho sakta hai"
The
doc said "You have to fill out the form; else we won't do the operation. This
is the rule". Arnav madly roared again "I am ASR. Only the name is enough.
Don't waste my time and save my wife. Agar mere patni kuch ho gaya, I will ha
''"
The
Doctor heard his name, got tensed and said "Ohk Sir, we will immediately start
it".
Arnav
was completely out of his senses. He could have signed the papers as her
husband. It was just a formality. But he could not because of the very reason
of such formalities that his Khushi might die and in that case his permission
of the operation might have helped them. He was not afraid of the blame but he
was afraid of the very thought of LOSING her. He wouldn't survive it.
He
sat there outside the special unit where she was and cried insensibly silently
for a while. He felt guilty for what he did for running her over.
He
remembered her last words, what she said just before losing consciousness "'..I
wanted to be yours...forever. But I feel bliss!! Every pain ... which was
bothering me till now seems to come to an end...being in your arms... taking
my last breath...A...r..nav...ji..." He shattered at the last line. He
jumped out of his chair to look at her immediately through the window. "Kuch
nhi hoga tumhe. Khushi'.I won't allow that. "
He
realized that he needed to inform others about it. He immediately called NK and
narrated everything to him.
Immediately afterwards, the Guptas and the
Raizadas except Dadi came in the nursing home. Garima had a dead face. Seeing
her, all those came back rushing in his mind. That cursed night and the last
night, everything. How his mother died and how she came to see his father for
the last time at his funeral. He was raging with anger but somehow, he
controlled himself.
Akaash
was with Payal and nani was consoling Buaji. And Shyam was with Anjali
consoling her when he was hell worried about KHushi himself. NK was trying to
gather himself. Just then the doc came out and Arnav was about to go first but
Buaji din't allow him and said "kaisi hai humari titaliya, doctor sahib ??"
The
doc replied facing Arnav " Sir, your wife's case is serious. So I have handed
the case over to our most senior specialist. He needs to talk to you about your
wife. Please follow me".
By
his gesture, Arnav understood something must have been serious. He was
awestuck. Everyone else was shocked to hear the doc addressing Arnav and Khushi
as husband-wife.
Buaji
spoke up "Wait. I will go. No one else need to take her responsibility " eying
Arnav.
Arnav
asked buaji calmly begging her to understand him emphasizing his each and every
word with an almost crying face and broken voice " Buaji, this is a serious
matter. I won't let anything happen to her. Let me handle this. This is for her
best. Trust me."
Hearing
this, Buaji went aside letting him go. Everyone could see that he was having
difficulty in speaking; to express his expressions properly as if he had lost
the way to think and process them into speaking; becoming numb Arnav, having a
last look at his beloved wife through the window, went after the doc. NK
accompanied him.
The
doc said " See, we are not sure yet about many things except one that she is
having internal haemorrhage. For she hurt her head but it was not bleeding. So
it formed a clot. She needs to be operated soon. Parents like this are rarely
saved."
Arnav
felt his head was already spinning. He felt empty. A feeling which din't strike
him for a long time now since his mother's death. The doc continued "This is
unfortunate enough. But, in this case, that's not all. I think there is more
than meets the eye. This has not been confirmed yet but my experience says so."
"The
reports will be coming soon. I hope they do not show what I am afraid of. But
anyway, as precautions, I have to take some tests of the family of your wife to
whom she is related by blood. Well, that's all for now." Saying this, the doc
left his cabin.
Arnav was trying to hold himself together for
quite a long time. But now he totally lost it. He was numb as if feeling
nothing. He could see nothing in front of his eyes. He felt he would not be
able to save his Khushi and that she was slipping away from him every moment.
He wished with all his heart that the time just stopped at the moment so that
he could have Khushi at least as she is and he din't have to lose her.
Literally
his hands were shaking for the first time ever. " NK attempted to comfort him
but before he could, Arnav got up, left the cabin, returned to the special
ward. Though all the eyes there were questioning him, but he dint pay heed to
anyone; directly went inside Khushi's ward and sat in front of her holding her
hand and hiding his face under her bed and periodically looking at her face
with crying eyes.
The
results came after a while and Arnav was called again in the doc's cabin.
Doc:
Mr. Raizada, your wife has brain hemorrhage. That's confirmed. But the other
part which I was afraid of came true.
Arnav:
(Shocked and numb and was only listening)
NK:
(seeing Arnav's condition, spoke out) what is it, doc??
Doc:
She has a serious brain problem. This is very rare. I did take tests of her
aunt to see if she could be of any help. I was surprised to see their test
results. Nothing was matching. Blood related people should have some
similarities. Finally I took a DNA test and the results are stunningly
negative. They are not blood related.
Doc
(contd): This is a form of cancer which can happen to anyone where the blood
vessels leading to the brain are a little weak. Due to constant stress and
pressure, they swell and might burst leading to brain death. But in most cases,
though the vessels are weak, they pose a problem and tend to swell only when
the person is in stress.
Your
wife must be going through something rough for a while. That's what triggered
the vessels to swell and are at the edge of bursting. They might be adding a
problem to the already severely risky internal hemorrhage operation. If she survives
the operation, see I am trying to be very frank, if she survives it, we can
later think about curing the blood vessels. They are not a problem at the
moment except posing a risk to burst during the operation, but due to stress
continued, they might form cancer later. The operation will start shortly.
There is only hope now. Only prayers can save her.
Arnav
still din't say anything. He came out of the cabin and went back to what he was
doing earlier; holding her hand, resting his head on her bed and looking at her
without blinking.
