Part Nine
After Kuku had walked into Radha's room and told RK he'd take care of her, RK and Madhu left.
RK walked in a trance towards his room as Madhu followed, calling out his name.
He didn't respond.
He walked into their room and then Madhu grabbed his arm.
"RK! Look at me!"
She cupped his face in her hands and shook him slightly. He didn't respond. He looked everywhere but at her.
"RK!"
He remained in his trance.
Then suddenly he heard the cry of his daughter.
He looked in the direction of her crib.
"MAYA?!" he screamed and ran towards the crib.
Madhu watched as RK went frantic over Maya's crying. She walked towards him and placed her hand on his shoulder.
He turned to face her.
"RK…Maya's okay now. Nothing's going to happen to her."
RK looked back towards Maya and then sighed. He kissed her forehead and cheeks.
"I love you Maya…I'll never let anything happen to you again. Never…"
Maya, who had stopped crying after laying in her father's arms, slowly opened her eyes. It was the first time RK was seeing her eyes again since the day at the hospital.
Madhu's eyes stared up at him through Maya.
Her beautiful big brown eyes.
RK smiled.
"You're beautiful…"
"She is…" Madhu smiled behind RK.
RK slowly placed Maya back down in the crib and tucked her in.
He turned to face Madhu. After giving her a split second of a glance, he walked past her and towards the bed.
"RK?"
Madhu ran towards him and grabbed his arm. She spun him to face her.
RK looked every except at her.
"What's wrong?"
"You were right Madhu…"
Madhu stared at him confused.
Then RK glanced up at her with remorseful eyes.
"You were right…" his eyes began to fill with tears.
"RK…?!" Madhu cupped his face again.
Suddenly RK pulled Madhu in for a hug and cried on her shoulder.
"This was all my fault…all my fault…"
"Shh, no RK…no…it wasn't…"
"You were right…!"
"No, shhh…I just spoke in the heat of the moment RK…it wasn't your fault," Madhu rubbed his back while trying to comfort him.
Madhu slowly pulled him away to stare up at him.
She caressed the side of his face.
"None of this was your fault RK…none of it. Soon this will all pass and we'll be a happy family. You, me, and our beautiful daughter Maya. This is just a phase. A bad phase that we're going through…we'll be fine RK…"
"You didn't see them…"
"See who RK?"
"They're dead…their bodies…ice cold…their faces…you didn't see them…"
Madhu looked at RK shocked as he began speaking to himself.
"I did this to them. This is my fault. MY FAULT."
Madhu stepped back as he began to yell.
"I KILLED THEM. IF I HADN'T KICKED HER OUT, THEY'D BE ALIVE."
Maya began to cry again.
"RK?!"
RK looked towards Madhu and spoke coldly.
"I killed them. You were right."
