Normally, in mythos, we have pretty well known stories (like in a Ramayan or Mahabharata) or at least well known characters (like Mahadev or Krishna), so people normally pick up a serial for that. In the case of DkDM, since the serial started w/ lesser known aspects of Mahadev's history, it helped that the serial initially rode on the coattails, or sari if one will, of Mouni's popularity, and then opened up to more familiar stories even as Mouni's role came to an end.
But in this case, unlike for stories of Ravan, Kansa, Jarasandha, Rukmi, Mahishashur or even Tarakasura, very few have ever heard of Kalikeya. Given that the story is itself unfamiliar, they should have strategized by bringing in popular actors, even if for just cameo roles, and later maybe pulling in less familiar names for characters like Mahishashur, Shumbha and so on. Unfortunately, this serial is starting out at a disadvantage on all fronts - storyline (which ain't known - not good for a mytho), lack of popular cast and to top it all, a time slot that's before prime time, when few will watch. This total combination doesn't bode well for the show.
