'Manjha', the film's first song will be released on Makar Sankranti day
The entire cast and crew of Kai po chhe was in city on Saturday to promote the release of its first
lyrics 'Manjha', which celebrates the festival of Makar Sankranti.
Director of Kai po chhe, Abhishek Kapoor of Rock On fame said: "The entire state celebrates the
spirit of kite flying on Makar Sankranti and the song 'Manjha' aptly captures the merriment of the festival. It spreads the message of brotherhood and friendship." The film adapted from Chetan Bhagat's bestselling novel 'The Three Mistakes Of My
Life', features Sushant Singh Raj, Amit Sadh and Rajkumar Yadav.
Explaining how the movie
happened, Kapoor said that when he met Chetan after 'Rock on' and read his book, he saw a
great potential in it. Stating that making a film based on a novel was challenging, he said, "It is a well written book with
interesting characters and
sensitive backdrop. We have focused on plot of Chetan's book and have highlighted various
experiences that Gujarat went through in the past including the devastating 2001 quake, India-
Australia test match and the 2002 riots, in the movie." When asked why Gujarat was chosen as locale for the film,
Kapoor summed up it up with his words: "You can't take Gujarat out of the story." The book has the setting of Gujarat while it faced major events, he said, so there was no
way it could be shot anywhere else. "We wanted to give authentic feel so that the world
can understand the sentiments of people of Gujarat," the director said.
Analyzing the film's title, Kapoor elucidated, "Kai po chhe is a victory cry that denotes merriment and excitement. "The kite flying festival is celebrated across the country, but Ahmedabad's Uttarayan has a special flavour. It enjoys and
celebrates the festival with loud and lavish leisure," said Kapoor,
adding that movie is about the youth of India and kite flying relates to soaring high dreams
and ambitions of the youngsters.
'Kai po che' has a youthful zest and the movie tries to capture the mood of the person who is
handling the kite which gets cut. "Delicate details and minute emotions of people of Gujarat and Ahmedabad are documented interestingly in the movie. I have
tried to capture and retain the essence of the city and its people.
Gujarat, as I believe, at the onset of 2013 is on the threshold of global explosion. The film depicts the spirit of people here during the years 2000- 2001 which
were the foundation years that have become the platform to the
place to become what it is today," he added.
The movie revolves around India's middleclass — its dreams,
frustration, angst and
aspirations. On his choice of launching new actors in the movie, Kapoor said, "When I auditioned these three, they were dynamites and once I saw
them I could not get myself to look at anyone else. I am very satisfied with their performance
and their sincerity towards the film."
