Part 4

Naitik, Mohit, Shaurya, Rohit and a bunch of other guys were on the field, playing football. They had a match with another University next week and all were practicing. In between all the fun of the dance competition, the football match totally slipped out of Naitik's head but now he decided to work towards it. Naitik was the best football player on the team and football was also something he enjoyed a lot, so he was looking forward to the match a lot. Naitik sometimes thought whether he was still studying in a collage because their University still had all the football matches, dance competitions etc. which he did countless times on his collage. But of course he didn't mind them. In fact he was glad their University held such programs.

After an hour of playing, their coach announced practice was over for that day and Naitik went over to the bench where his bag was lying. Mohit followed. Naitik took out his bottle and passed Mohit's one to him. Mohit sat down on the bench which was an indication to Naitik that Mohit wants to talk. So he sat down as well.

"Bata…kya bolna hai tujhe?" Naitik said as he put his bottle back again in his bag.

"Tera birthday arahe hain."

Naitik rolled his eyes as he remembered his last birthday. It was a disaster. He had his exams the next day and all he had to do was stuck his head in books all over his birthday. It went even worse though when he got his papers back and he ended up getting a C.

"Maine aur Rashmi ne pura plan kar liya….sham tak to football practice…phir raat main party…" Mohit said with a grin.  

Naitik laughed lightly. "Mere birthday ka saara planning tum dono ne kar lia….phir I hope mera birthday pani main dub na jaye…" Mohit punched Naitik on the shoulder as the two started walking towards the men's room.

Naitik was standing in front of his cupboard, trying to pick up his shirt for the night. When Mohit had initially told him about the party, he thought it would be just with the three of them…him, Mohit and Rashmi…but later he found out Rashmi and Mohit have apparently decided to include the entire second year batch of their University. The party was supposed to be in Naitik's farmhouse and Naitik initially had thought he would have enjoyed his birthday better with just Rashmi and Mohit rather than having the entire classroom in his farmhouse…… he didn't really like to mix up with people he wasn't really close to….but now it had the opposite effect on him…the football practices had brought him close to nearly all the boys….and Akshara was also supposed to come…..he had become pretty good friends with her during their dance practices….he actually started enjoying himself in her presence with the little amount of interaction they had….and there was no doubt that he began to view her as one of his friends….but were they actually friends?? Did Akshara thought that way too?? He had no idea…..

Akshara, Shaurya and Varsha walked in together at the door of Naitik's farmhouse….they could fully hear the loud chatter coming from the room which made Akshara nervous….she usually didn't prefer loud birthdays but a quiet celebration with family and close friends….and she wasn't sure what to do in the party…Naitik would be busy with everyone…Shaurya too…she knew that all the talk Shaurya had these days were about the football match….she was really glad Varsha was with her….

As they stepped inside….her eyes began searching for Naitik automatically….and when she finally found him, he was already staring back at her and with a smile came over within a minute….

"Hi…."

"Happy birthday…" Akshara gave him a packet which she was holding. It had a watch in it….Shaurya and Varsha joined in and after few minutes, both the boys left talking together…..Varsha ended up getting a call from home and she had to leave. Akshara didn't want her to go but it was urgent and so Varsha left. Not knowing what to do, she messaged Shaurya on phone that she was outside and got out all by herself. It was a cold night and Akshara was lightly shivering….Naitik's farmhouse was huge…even outside she could see many faces that she knew from her University walking here and there….not finding anything to do, she kept walking until she came to a quieter area. She stood outside for a while when she heard someone's quiet voice. She turned around to see Naitik talking on phone on the other side. She waited a little for his call to get over though she couldn't really hear what he was saying….after a while, he cut the call and turned over and was shocked to see Akshara …. "Akshara!"

"Hi…."

"Tum yaha kya kar rahi ho?"

"Kuch nahi…wo aise hi agayi….tum to andar the…bahar kab aye??"

"Maybe jab tum bahar ayi…"

Akshara lightly bit her lip. "I am sorry…."

"Kyu?"

"Tum baat kar rahe the aur main…."

"It's okay…" Naitik cut her in between.

Akshara raised her head to see Naitik smiling….she let out a sigh of relief that Naitik wasn't irritated or mad...normally she would have been had she been in his situation but something inside her told her that maybe he didn't got mad at her for a strong reason...it was clear she couldn't really hear what he was talking about...this part of the area might be quieter but Naitik was at quite a distance from her and he was nearly whispering...and he would for sure would have been irritated with her if she could hear...they were not friends...or were they?

Her scattered thoughts were interrupted with Naitik's nudge "Andar chale….?" Naitik asked. Akshara nodded and the two walked in together again… from the corner of her eyes Akshara could see Naitik was a little upset. But she wasn't sure whether she should ask about it…..

Shaurya came in after a while and after the dinner, Akshara and Shaurya left together….After everyone left, Mohit and Rashmi stayed back with Naitik to clean up some of the mess….both of them noticed Naitik was quieter than before…. "Kya hua yaar?" Mohit asked while picking up some of the plates…. "Same old family problem…" Naitik turned to his two friends…. "Aj bhi daddaji business join karne ke bare main bol rahe the….kitna bhi bolu…koi meri baat hi nahi samajta…." Rashmi pressed Naitik's shoulders and Naitik turned around…. "Chor na…abhi bhi 2 saal baki hai University khatam hone main….iss beach dekh lenge…." Rashmi smiled and Naitik smiled back….

So Naitik and Akshara now do feel something for each other but haven't yet come to terms with it...the two surely aren't in love right now but they do share an attraction towards each other...about the new Naitik business track i wrote at the end...well, it's actually from the beginning of the show when Naitik had wanted to do a job instead of doing the family business...later on, i guess i will add this element to the story...
