Q. Can Jab Tak Hai Jaan set any new records be it India or Overseas?

A. Overseas, all opening records will be under threat while in India the opening three day record is a possibility as the second and third day of Ek Tha Tiger were not favourable and that film showed huge drops on those days while here both are big collecting days so 60 crore three day number can't be ruled out content willing.

Decisive Diwali at the Box Office!

Thursday, November 15, 2012 | 4:02:45 PM IST (+05:30 GMT)   Comments 6 Comments Decisive Diwali at the Box Office!

After a long gap of 12 years, two major films, Yash Raj Films' Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Ajay Devgn Films' Son of Sardar released on the same day!

This year the festival of lights, Diwali, is extra special for Bollywood. After a long gap of 12 years, two major films, Yash Raj Films' Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Ajay Devgn Films' Son of Sardar released on the same day! Last time such much-awaited films released together on June 15th was back in 2001, when both the films, Gadar and Lagaan turned out to be blockbusters.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan is a romantic flick starring the King of Romance Shah Rukh Khan along with the gorgeous ladies, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma. Being the last directorial of the late legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra makes this film even more special. The film revolves around Samar Anand (Shah Rukh Khan), who loves to play with his life by taking risks everyday in the long going battle he has with the almighty that had snatched away his ladylove Meera Thapar (Katrina Kaif) 10 years back. Years after separation, these two come face to face when a young, vibrant "super girl" Akira Rai (Anushka Sharma) comes into their lives.

Son of Sardar is yet another Bollywood romance drama; a remake of Telugu movie Maryada Ramanna. The film features Ajay Devgn, Juhi Chawla, Sanjay Dutt and Sonakshi Sinha.  It's about the journey of Jassi (Ajay Devgn) who falls in love-at-first-sight with Sukhmeet (Sonakshi) and then later ends up as guest in her house which is full of comical sardars - The Sandhus. The head of the house, Billu paaji (Sanjay Dutt) wants to seek revenge on Jassi but their hands are tied from doing so as Jassi is their (unwanted) house-guest and guests should be treated like god as the saying goes.

Released on 2600 screens, Jab Tak Hai Jaan has emerged as a clear winner among the two all over India and overseas. But not by a huge margin, considering Son of Sardar was released at much fewer screens. Early estimates suggest, that the first day collections of Jab Tak Hai Jaan were around 15-16 Crores net while Son of Sardar will follow with an estimate first day earning of around 8-9 Crores.

BollyCurry wishes both the films a successful run and a very Happy and Prosperous Diwali and New Year to everyone!

Shah Rukh Khan's Jab Tak Hai Jaan outscores Ajay Devgn's Son of Sardaar on first two days

<a target="_blank" href=""><img alt="Advertisement" height="71" width="640" border="0" src=""></a>
According to industry estimates, Jab Tak Hai Jaan (JTHJ) had Rs 34.77 crore net box office collections on the first two days against Son of Sardaar's (SoS) Rs 26.93 crore.
According to industry estimates, Jab Tak Hai Jaan (JTHJ) had Rs 34.77 crore net box office collections on the first two days against Son of Sardaar's (SoS) Rs 26.93 crore.
MUMBAI: Two biggest Diwali releases this year—Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Ajay Devgn's Son of Sardaar—have both had a good opening with King Khan, with the blessings of the late Yash Chopra and the advantage of 500 more screens, scoring slightly higher.

According to industry estimates, Jab Tak Hai Jaan (JTHJ) had Rs 34.77 crore net box office collections on the first two days against Son of Sardaar's (SoS) Rs 26.93 crore.

JTHJ's first day collection of Rs 15.23 crore, in fact, is the highest Diwali day collection for any film in India, beating Ra.One's Diwali day collection of Rs 14.50 crore last year. Together, the two new releases netted more than Rs 25 crore on Diwali day, 70% more than what the only release, Ra.One, collected last year.

Gautam Dutta, COO at PVR Cinemas, said JTHJ has taken the lead in the multiplex where both films have almost equal screen share at 52:48 in favour of the Yash Chopra film. "In terms of collections, JTHJ is definitely the first choice and is nudging higher. Our revenue split between the two films has been 65:35 as corporate bookings for the SRK-Katrina Kaif starrer were full and so were our Directors Cut and Gold Class," he said.

Son of Sardaar is expected to grow its collections over the weekend when people who have already watched JTHJ return to see the Devgn film, he added. PVR Cinemas has 213 screens across 27 cities.

While JTHJ is ahead in multiplexes, Shailesh Kapoor, CEO of film data tracking firm Ormax Media, says the films are neck and neck in single screen centres. He says the Ajay Devgn film, being a North-skewed film, was affected more by the Diwali puja than the SRK film.

"The real potential of these films will be seen Friday onwards, when the impact of word of mouth comes in," Kapoor said.

The box office battle between the two was keenly watched because of a pre-release spat between the two with SOS producer Ajay Devgn Films taking JTHJ producer Yash Raj Films to the Competition Commission over alleged abuse of its dominant position in the market to make exhibitors dedicate their screens for JTHJ and keep SoS out of several key catchment areas. The commission rejected it.

While critics have been kind to JTHJ given it was the late Chopra's last film, they have not spared SoS. A unanimous word of mouth that has gone against JTHJ is the length of the film, which goes on for two hours and 50 minutes. And this causes the film to get less number of shows in a day.

While JTHJ's bookings are encouraging till the weekend, SoS bets on word of mouth to build on its good start.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan Movie Review

Jab Tak Hai Jaan Movie Review

Jab Tak Hai Jaan

Cast ' Shahrukh Khan , Katrina Kaif , Anushka Sharma.

Direction- Yash Chopra .

Producer ' Aditya Chopra .

Music ' A R Rahman

The man Who taught the Country How to Romance ' Late Shri Yash Chopra couldn't Witness its release but the Movie has created its Magic all Over the World and Its just Considered as another Master Piece by Yashji . Yash chopra ' Shahrukh Khan Duo Magic has once again proved to be victorious at Box Office.
There is no surprising dimension or nuance to the love story, which involves a struggling young Londoner, an odd-jobs man who can charm the pants off people with his broken English, and who, due to a preposterous twist of fate, becomes an expert in the bomb defusal squad of the Indian Army (Samar Anand, played by Khan). Meera (Katrina Kaif), a wealthy object of affection with a traumatic childhood, is regressive and unable to take her life in her own hands. The third in the triangle is a 21-year-old documentary film-maker who is wooing the Discovery Channel head honchos with a film on the lover boy who is now the soldier with a tough exterior (Akira, played by Anushka Sharma). Wish fulfilment, really, but not in this film.

There is a crucial hole in the basic template, which Chopra made his own in his long career'poetic, rhapsodic music that beautifies his scenes, even his characters. Rahman's music dilly-dallies along the formulaic and the original; there are flashes of genius in the way he uses voice, but overall the music is remarkably ineffective. Mehta's cinematography'the way he and the director use the locations, London and Ladakh'has the stamp of a seasoned hand. Some of the dialogues are memorable.

Towards the end, when the plot is very obviously done with its meandering and things head towards a climax, an insufferable number of scenes go into bizarre lovers' exchanges. Fervent sighs and tears encumber these lengthy scenes. Khan's histrionics become tiresome and his familiar weaknesses as an actor are pronounced, overshadowing the spunk and magnetism his persona lends to the role'his reputation as a romantic hero, firmly and unmistakably in a tradition which Dilip Kumar and Dev Anand steered, is intact.
AR Rahman's music in the film somewhere seems underused. The songs 'Challa', 'Ishq Shava' and 'Saans Mein' are a delight to the ears. The Master Musician's 'Heer' is a beautiful song. The numbers are hummable, and nice ones; but just that. They aren't exactly exceptional. We've had better specimens from Rahman in the past, and will sure have better ones in the future.

Overall you can Witness One of the Most beautiful Movies of 2012 with Shahrukh Khan's Magic as he still hold's the Tag of King of Hearts with Jab Tak Hai Jaan .
