Son of Sardaar Takes Bumper Opening at Box Office

Son of Sardaar has taken a Bumper Opening at the box office on Tuesday, the opening day of the movie. SOS occupancy for the Early Morning Shows are around 60-70% on average. Figures are even better when we consider SOS has got as early show as 7 AM in the Morning. Occupancy for SOS is varying from 50% to 90% in all India. Few Housefull shows are also reported from selected theaters.

SOS is having a huge fight from Jab Tak Hai Jaan which is also releasing on same day. So, an opening of 60-70% is pretty good. Also, SOS screen count is very less as compared to a big release. Hence, it needs a very good occupancy for the whole day to have a significant number at the box office on first day. Evening and Night shows might be affected by Puja. Let's wait and see.

Below are Occupancy for Morning Shows from Few Selected Theaters from Various Circuits.

Mumbai -

Fun Cinemas: Andheri - 55%
Sun City: Vile Parle - 90%
CineMAX: Infiniti 2 Mall, Malad (W) - 80%
BIG Cinemas Moviestar: Goregaon - 85%
CineMAX: Versova (Gold Class) - 65%
BIG Cinemas: Metro - 55%

Son Of Sardaar Good Opening Excellent In North

Tuesday 13th November 2012 12.00 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Son Of Sardaar had a good opening of around 65-70% on average at multiplexes with Delhi/UP, East Punjab and Rajasthan being excellent with capacity or near capacity houses.

The opening was just decent in parts of Mumbai circuit, West Bengal and South with some theatres opening below 50%.

The single screen opening is similar to multiplexes with excellent collections in North and decent elsewhere but in places like UP and Rajasthan where the film has taken an excellent start it has limited single screens and a weak chain of single screens which will hit business.

Diwali Puja will hit the film from noon onwards and Son Of Sardaar may be hit harder than Jab Tak Hai Jaan because business is hit hardest in circuits where Son Of Sardaar has opened to excellent response while South has limited affect where the film has had average opening.

Review: Son of Sardaar is an opportunity wasted

Last updated on: November 13, 2012 11:52 IST

Rohit Khilnani says Son of Sardaar has a lot for the masses but it lacks a good story.

Empty vessels make the most noise and that stands true for Son Of Sardaar . It lacks a good script and is packed to capacity with a lot of action and masala.

Ajay Devgn's [ Images ] entry shot on two horses, the bravo sikh dialogues, the jokes and the Iron Man hand that makes people fly in the air, there is that and a lot more that will keep the whistles going at the cinemas.

Son of Sardaar is the remake of a Telugu film Maryada Ramanna by S.S. Rajamouli but is a lot different from it too. Apart from that it takes a lot of inspiration Rohit Shetty's popular films starring Ajay Devgn. But this film lacks the punch that Shetty manages each time. I am sure it's tough to shoot scenes with human beings and cars flying and director Ashvini Dhir gets all that right but what's tougher is to club all the larger than life heroism with a good script which Dhir just doesn't get.

Jassi (Ajay Devgn) a happy-go-lucky sikh works with Salman Khan's [ Images ] uncle in London [ Images ]. One day he gets a message that he has a piece of land in India [ Images ] which he inherited from his family. He decides to go back to Punjab [ Images ] to sell the land but little does he know that following the old family feud the men of Sandhu family, Ranvijay [ Images ] Singh (Sanjay Dutt [ Images ]) and his brothers are waiting to kill Jassi, the only surviving member of the Randhawa family. Jassi's father had killed Ranvjay's brother who was also Sukh's (Sonakshi Sinha [Images ]) father.

While getting to Punjab from Delhi [ Images ] by train Jassi meets a loud and colourful Punjabi girl, Sukh and he falls for her. Both get along well but have no idea about each other's background. Soon you see Jassi at Sandhu's home being well fed following the mehmaan bhagwan hote hain tradition. In no time Ranvijay finds out that Jassi is the person they have been waiting to kill and of course only then will Ranvijay marry Pammi (Juhi Chawla [ Images ]). But the mehmaan bhagwan tradition is taken a bit too seriously in this house so Ranvijay can't kill Jassi till he steps out of the four walls and then starts the predictable cat and mouse chase to get Jassi out, who by now knows if he steps out he will be killed brutally by Ranvijay and his goons.

The acting department does their fair bit. Ajay Devgn as Sikh is convincing and puts his sincere bit in the role through the film. Sanjay Dutt is good when he is angry and also when he is funny. Sonakshi Sinha looks pretty but has little to do just like her debut film Dabangg. The show stealer is Juhi Chawla as the Punjabi girl who is Sanjay Dutt's love interest, she lights up the screen with her smile. Salman Khan's cameo works well too and adds some entertainment.

Music is not great and most of the songs are forced and out of place. Action is over the top but that's all that there is in this two hour twenty minute film. And that too seems stretched at times. No doubt there are a few dialogues and punch lines that will make you laugh.

Son of Sardaar has a lot for the masses but it lacks a good story. With all the other ingredients in place it feels likeSon of Sardaar is a good opportunity wasted.

Movie Review: Son Of Sardaar | Baap Of Sardard.

Cast: Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Juhi ChawlaDirected by: Ashwani DheerOverall Rating: 1.5/5

If mainstream cinema hereon is to be built upon the foundation of dumbness, I'd rather have it crushed right away, instead of being insulted as a viewer "who enjoys any form of comedy". Logic can take a backseat, I've no qualms with making peace with insanity as long as the film offers some good laughs. But Ashwani Dheer's Son of Sardaar fails to light up a smile genuinely (or unintentionally), and all it offers is tasteless old ploy dipped in a lot of color, with a history of family feuds lionized to a ludicrous level.

Ajay Devgan In Son of Sardar

Jassi Randhawa (Ajay Devgan), returns back from London to his home village to proclaim his ancestral property. Notoriously famous Billu Paaji (Sanjay Dutt) is anticipating Jassi's return to avenge his brother's death. Both their families share a mercilessly violent history, and putting off Jassi will finish off this war forever. But before that, cupid interferes in this saga to tie Sukh (Billu's younger siter- Sonakshi Sinha) and Jassi in a bond of love in the course of a train journey to Punjab. When Jassi accidentally enters Billu Paaji's house, the only way he could save himself is by staying in, as this family sticks to 'Atithi Devo Bhava', and never harms its guests. Juhi Chawla plays Pammi, who's in love with Billu and wishes to marry him as soon as he avenges his brother's death. Tanuja plays the family's senior figure.

son of sardar sonakshi sinha

Performance-wise- Ajay Devgn, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Juhi Chawla- all are quite humdrum, mouthing off cacophonously in a mechanical Punjabi dialect. In fact, this movie works well in degrading the Punjabi-ness to a very new "low". Choreography is pretty lazy, and even the songs not very hummable.

Son-Of-Sardar-Movie-Wallpapers

Son Of Sardaar is a celebration of the lack of originality, with the snobbiest of masalas sprinkled over Punjab in the name of entertainment. The script- malnourished in wit, overloaded in self-derogatory humour and attempting too hard to be funny- breathes out its last breath of  appeal for the viewer. Re-sketching a southern hit into a Punjabi background may have been a demanding task, but the result doesn't live up to the hype. It does have its moments, but overall the movie irritates more than it entertains.
