Diwali is celebrated to welcome Lord Ram, who returned to Ayodhya after 14 years of vanvaas (his stay in jungle). The return of Lord Ram signifies the beginning of the Ram-Rajya in Ayodhya. The people loved Lord Ram, and to welcome him, the whole of Ayodhya was lit with Diya's or Deep's. Every year, we now celebrate this day as Deepawali or Diwali.
Diwali is also celebrated by sikhs for welcoming 6th guru of sikhs who came out of mughal prison in Gawalior along with 52 hindu kings whom he had helped getting freedom on this day.Golden Temple was lit on that day in celebration.Hence Diwali of amritsar is considered one of the best in region
This day is considered to be an auspicious day for buying of gold or silver. The Lakshmi Puja is performed on this day, and diya's are lit to drive away evil spirits. Bhajans, in the praise of Goddess Lakshmi are also sung.
Also known as Chhoti Diwali, this day is allotted for the worship of Maha-Kali or Shakti, as it believed that on this day, Maa Kali killed the evil Narakasura. This is a day to abolish laziness and evil.
This marks the most important day of the 5-day festival. Hindu homes worship Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth, and Ganesh, the God of auspicious beginnings. They then light lamps to welcome prosperity and new beginnings.
On this day, brothers and sisters meet to express their love and affection for each other. It is believed that Yami welcomed her brother Yama, the Lord of Death. They had a feast together on this day.
