Thank God!Clap

Refreshing to see someone get the interpretation of sentence...exactly as intended in the whole long quote in question!

Sapna was crude & loud (ashleel) where as Sidhu's quote expects her to be within Lajja frame work (polite and restrained)!

My only point in this entire debate - when Sapna was abusing others left right and center and calling them names and using the worst of language - at that time no one found anything wrong with her behavior including Siddhu. He kept harping on how innocent she is and all. Khud gaaliyan padte hi "aurat ka gehna yaad aa gaya"?

If she was right then, Siddhu cannot in all honesty lecture her today. If she is wrong in calling Siddhu names, then she was also wrong all those other times and Siddhu should apologize to those he has let down by supporting the wrong person.

There has been no change in Sapna's behavior, her behavior has been consistent from beginning. It is Siddhu who is behaving in a contrary manner.

But I think she was not abusing others earlier at least not in front of Sidhu...And I think her behaviour is deteriorating day by day...so not consistent...

Or may be I missed things..coz I have just started following this season...

OH yes  she has abused people before too. She has infamously abused Salman, calling him "someone who regularly beats up women", she has had words with Kashif, Urvashi, actually almost everyone in the house except Aseem and Siddhu, Siddhu was the last to face her outburst and Aseem thankfully is out of the house.

I agree with his thought and intent. Sapna was in the wrong and behaving asheel. I think his only honest mistake was framing in terms of "aurat". Any insaan who is asheel, needs guidance.

That's true about Salman..I won't term that as abuse..
Kashif started that unnecessary drama and she responded rightly...

Can you translate it in English? What is ashleelta and what exactly is lajja( being shy, or being modest in their appearance or being modest in general)???

i said it earlier...

Kyunki jis aurat mein lajja naheen----ASHLEELTA HAI------------us aurat ko, kaheen naa kaheen, koi guidance ki zaroorat hai-

When you read the sentence--Jis aurat mein lajja naheen---ASHLEELTA HAI---------------------------------that settles it fair and square!

In the context of his complete statement, what it obviously means is one who doesn't exercise restraint in her approach...is crude and loud in her way of speaking...(her because he is addressing it to Sapna)...needs guidance (counseling / support..call it what you may).

In this conversation ASHLEELTA doesn't mean starring in porn films just as LAJJA doesn't mean coyly looking at your toe nails and blushing non stop!

There are two concerns I have

1)      Culture and upbringing in a broad sense is gender-neutral. But when we zoom in on the details it can get very gender-specific and lay out unfair gender roles.

2)      You cannot generalize based on "one" . That is unfair generalization or stereotyping. If anyone does that, it is not "Sapna" to blame but lack of thinking on the part of the public.

But I agree, Sapna is a poor spokesperson for her message.

1. Agreed, but in only very conservative societies is the woman's role so proscribed. Even in traditional societies where the woman is confined behind the four walls - there is a code of conduct for men - that of protector and provider. You must've herd men say quite often - Chivalry died with Women's Liberation - that is the attitude in every society. You want equality, you get equality on all aspects. If you want a traditional treatment stick to the traditional role-definition.

2. See the examples I'm taking are from incidents that might right now be happening in middle-class families. People tend to take the immediate negative example in font of them to avoid taking an uncomfortable stand. Last season those examples might have been Sky and Sid and the season before that it might have been Dolly Bindra. But that is really how the general public behaves and generalizes.

PS: Damn I hate playing Devil's Advocate, but someone has to point to the other face of the coin too. And there I've killed all my excellent arguments. Damn, Damn Damn (You may imagine Rex Harrison in My Fair Lady saying that)
