Why heroines of yore pick unknown faces for comeback?

There was a time when they were ruling the roost that the male stars vied with each other to be paired opposite them. One is talking of the era of Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi as also that of Preity Zinta who literally ruled the roost at the box-office and were paired with all the big stars of the times and acted in all the big banners. But as the age started catching up with them, or they decided to enter the world of conjugal bliss or set-up the businesses, a time gap came into their acting lives. Now when they are coming back to try to claim their mantle, their co-stars who used to act opposite them do not seem to be inclined to be paired opposite an actress of an era gone by.


	ENGLISH VINGLISH and ISHKQ IN PARIS

It indeed is one of the funny surmises of the world of Hindi cinema that a female actress ages with the age, but a male co-star continues to defy his age on the silver screen and thrives in acting opposite ladies half of his age, or with girls who are fit enough to be their daughters. It is sort of a false sense of pride of the male species which acts in the world of Hindi cinema and even in cinema of regional languages that it continues to live in the time warp of the success that he may have attained at the beginning of his career and has encashed its success for a decade. In the melee it is forgotten that there are co-stars of the female variety who also have contributed to their success, therefore as an element of gratitude when they are trying to make a comeback they need to be helped.

When Madhuri Dixit made her comeback, though the film was made by Yash Raj banner, there was no famous co-star opposite her but it was a gora Feix De Alviella who starred opposite her in AAJA NACH LE. In the same manner for Sridevi as well there was no famous co-star from her past, but her pairing was done with French actor Mehdi Nebbou for ENGLISH VINGLISH. In the same manner Preity Zinta's ISHKQ IN PARIS has a new actor Rhehan Mallick opposite her- though he is not a gora, but he is a newcomer. One has to add here thatSalman Khan, the sport that he is, is appearing in an item number in ISHKQ IN PARIS.

Could it be owing to the fact that these divas from the past are making their comeback and now that the quotient of glamour is not their USP, but rather they would like to make their mark through performance, they pick up unknown faces which can provide them the opportunity to create the impression? At the face value it can be, but if the idea is display of histrionics, the display opposite a famous star makes it more so creditable.

The plausible reason seems to be that they could have lost the hold over the market and as such the established co-stars who acted opposite them in their heydays, still commandeer the box office, so the budget of the films in which they act in comebacks is small which cannot afford a big star. Whatever be the case, for the divas, it therefore proves to be a doubly uphill task, but Sridevi has proved with ENGLISH VINGLISH that there is still lots of acting is left in her, and one only hopes that Madhuri Dixit with DEDH ISHQIYA and GULAAB GANG and Preity Zinta with ISHKQ IN PARIS prove the detractors wrong and create a new paradigm of acting in the world of Hindi cinema.

none have been as bad as PZ's co-star. Wonder what she saw in him!

People are actually liking the one opposite rani, he is serving the eye candy here where as rani is the hero! perfect!

The reason is simple.Stars like SRK,Salman,Akshay want to work with girls half their age and don't want to work with Rani,Preity,etc.because they feel viewers are bored of watching their pairs.

On the other hand,Preity and Sridevi are too old to be cast opposite actors like Ranbir and Imran so that's why they ahve to choose newbies opposite to them.

Bollywood is indeed unfair with actresses!

If these heroines managed to get a top hero to star with them it wouldnt really be a comeback.

Because that way the actors cannot overshadow the actresses in their movies Big smile

The actresses in movies with known faces - males actors usually have nothing to do! Making a come-back with them would be just as good as not making one at all. Atleast by acting opposite a newbie .. they land a script that revolves around them.

As you can see the comeback movies are all heroine/women oriented so that the actresses can show their prowess and tell the world that they still have it in them. Which "Stars" will be ready to be in a film where the focus centers around the actresses? Disapprove

Even films like Kahaani, Fashion which are not comeback film have picked male actors who are relatively unknown. Bollywood actors are MCPs(sorry can't put it in a better way), they lose interest to work with a heroine after certain period of time as they want fresh and young girls(won't say actresses). Angry
