one of my fav parts: when the class finds out that David Sir broke up with his boyfriend. Salman laughs saying how gay ppl don't have the same hurt as "normal" ppl. And they all laugh but Sri explains to him how its not nice. Just like David is different for them, they are diff. for davidClap

English Vinglish Has Decent Monday

Monday 9th October 2012 09.00 IST

Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

English Vinglish had a decent Monday of around 2 crore nett. The collections are excellent if we consider the drop is just 10-15% from Friday but the problem is that Friday number was very low.

The film should go and collect around 19-20 crore nett in the first week for its Hindi version which is a fair result especially considering the opening was low.

The lifetime business of the film will depend on how well it can sustain in its second weekend. There is a heavy flow of releases in the next 3 weeks which could have a large affect on the screen space the film gets at multiplexes.

Lovely film. It clearly shows how the actresses of yester years had such immenc eacting capabilities unlike actresses of today.

You know, im just comparing Barfi and English Vinglish.

They are both very loved movies. Sweet simple wholesome.

Fresh. With lovely music and impeccable acting.

But one has performed below expectations and the other

skyrocketed above the expectations at Box office.

There is only one reason for this. The karma of the movie.

Each movie has its destiny. Barfi s destiny was that it

should go from strength to strength even when majority

expected it to bomb.

English Vinglish is  a movie which should have had a huge

opening because it has sridevi in it and shot outside in

America, has lovely songs and WOM is fantastic. But

no one can change karma.

Anyways it will be extremely popular on the tv circuit. even

if the other big releases coming up affect its performance

in theatres.

I disagree

First of all too quick to call on the karma theory. Let it complete a week at least!

secondly its sri devi after like a decade, people forget actresses when they say good bye to the big screen, more over she is dressed in a simple sari through out the movie, not like she is doing her " i love you" track from Mr India again which can excite the single screens. It was bound to start low, this does not say anything about sri devi's star power though, same way as kahani's low opening does not say anything about vidya's star power! these movies cannot get good opening, they run on WOM!

^ I don't understand the bit about karma. :S

Sridevi has been out of action for 15 years. We can't expect her to give a "Khan-like" opening now can we? I think EV has done quite well for itself so far and so did Barfi. They can't really be compared IMHO.

Well, werent you surprised by the opening? I myself had thought

at least five crore tho not more.

The promos have been running pretty long, and most liked them,

I think most people had projected more than two crores.

And after the strong word of mouth on Friday business should

hv really jumped on Sat and Sunday to like nine ten crores each

because it is a wholesome movie which all families can sit

together and watch plus it seems to hv the feel good factor.

People love those. The biggest thing about the movie was

Sridevis comeback and that they maximised in the promos.

She attended KBC and Anupama s shows and everything.

Thats why i said the only explanation for such a wonderful

movie not becoming an instant blockbuster is that thing

called destiny which no one can manipulate.
