He pulled back from her and cleared this throat before he said, "I didn't mean that, of course."

Loved this part... She is most vulnerable at this point and still has to reply to his earlier talk to make him feel comfortable...
There must be an explanation. She just needed to research it. There were always explanations. The unexplained was only the unexplained
because someone had not figured out how to explain it.
