Exactly. The play's "Merchant of Venice" and like you have mentioned, the main theme in that particular play was Mercy as well as a supporting theme of self-interest versus love. Both themes seem to be fitting in their situation in various degrees. Besides, unlike Romeo and Juliet, which is a tragedy, Merchant of Venice is a "tragic comedy" and this whole situation also has a comic tone along with an underlying "tragic" tone in the form of the supporting stories of each of the characters.
