                                               Part 42:

3 days since Nupur had met her ill fate, Mayank and Nupur were in the hospital dealing with its consequences.

Mayank was there, to walk an unstable walk with her even.

Mayank simply took her unhurt hand and placed it around his shoulders in order to support her right. She was not too surprised when she first had to catch her breath for a second and take in the feeling of comfort more than the former feeling and then it ached a little, shifting her focus on its own. Mayank saw her expressios and adjusted her more, so that most of her weight rested on him and she started her new walk of life. She did realize that it can only be Mayank to go out of his way with so much of efforts just so that she felt a little lesser pain, just a little. It was scaringly a very pleasant surprise to her; scaring because this also brought a little uncertain criteria with it...what if all of this was just a dream, sometimes things really are too good to be true. Well, she wanted to make sure that this one was not and in the process she wanted Mayank to know that all of this mattered to her.

She stopped at her another step and with tears shining in her eyes, she told Mayank, "Thanks!"

It was as if Mayank was caught off-guard in the moment. He had never seen anyone thank him so plainly with such intensity in their eyes. It was difficult to react to; way too different than how he had reacted to his share of thanks; on second thoughts, why was she thankful ayways? He clarified speaking abruptly, "Yeh sab main tumhare liye nahi, apne liye kar raha hoon"

Nupur looked at him with a little confused face. There he was almost accepting her thanks with the way he looked in her eyes, just a moment ago and then, as if trying to pull out of their eye-lock came up with a reason which needed some more reasoning.

Nupur asked almost as abruptly as she heard it, "Matlab?"

Now why did her look to him asked for an explaination from him, actually! And here he thought that he was already way too cool about handling this love thing already!

He started, "Matlab yeh ki...tum toh apna dhyaan rakhne se rahi...toh maine socha ki ab ki baar tumhe woh mauka hi naa doon...ki tum aur koi bahana dhund kar apne aap ko aur kissi khatre mein daal sako...aakhir baad mein sab sambhalna toh mujhe hi padega...you know naa..."

He was suddenly becoming good at bringing about the bush, much to Nupur's dislike who turned red suddenly with anger and said, "KOI...Zaroorat nahi hai itna dur ki sochne ki...aapki jaankari ke liye main apna khayal khud hi rakh sakti hoon...tumhe abhi bhi tension lene ki koi zaroorat nahi hai..."

Yes, she knew she was over reacting but she just didn't like the sound of coming across as a constant trouble for Mayank. She knew she had been lately somehow, but still it felt bad, to listen to this coming from the horse's mouth himself. Nupur had just seen her scaring truth trying to manifest itself.

Mayank today smirked at Nupur's behavior again, after almost God knows how long. 

He stopped Nupur from taking her hand off his shoulder and said, "Haan haan...tum toh apne aap sab kuch manage kar sakti ho Nupur...hum sab toh yahan acting kar rahe hain naa?" and looked at her state and suddenly turned his crooked smile into a sweet one at Nupur's 'ever-so-increasing' angry glare.

Why did he have to change her string of thoughts just by changing his expressions in microseconds? She thought aloud, "Toh tum?"

Mayank nodded his head smiling but looking ahead trying to make her walk again, "Ab tum iss tarah se thanks kahogi...toh main aise hi react karunga naa...yaad hai tumhe maine pehle bhi mana kiya hai naa thanks kehne ko...bhool gayi...kahin tumhare dimaag par bhi toh asar nahi hua hai naa ?"

Nupur shook her head in dis-believe and said, "Tum phir mera mazaak uda rahe ho?" as she stopped again.

Mayank reminded her, "Dekho mujhe baton mein phasa kar tum yeh walk avoid nahi kar sakti okay?"

Nupur resumed walking with Mayank's support and resumed back to their discussion too, "Par mazaak se toh tumhe problem hai naa ?"

Mayank knew exactly what she was talking about. Well, even he had over reacted at her recently by exhausting his built up anger on her. He apologized, "Dekho Nupur, I am sorry uss waqt tum par aise chillane ke liye...actually main..."

Nupur cut him in between, "Its Okay!" Suddenly it was not required at all that he apologises to her. She had understood it then and maybe it wasn't too right to even mention that today. She never understood her own behavior when it came to Mayank; some odd things were alright and some simply obvious reasons were not! She needed to check how this love thing actually worked?

Suddenly she is hard to tackle and suddenly she gives him a cake to walk through. However, he found himself curious for both of these sides of hers. It was always something new with her, every moment, every situation, every little thing; life seemed new too. How he missed this feeling in the gone past few days?

Nupur replied back, "Arrey, woh sab chodo Mayank, kuch bataya doctors ne ki mujhe yahan se chutti kab milegi? Ab toh main apne pairo pe bhi khadi ho kar chal rahi hoon naa ?"

Mayank looked at her with amusement that faintly suggested his smirk coming her way, which never came. But he replied infact, "Tum iss case mein kuch naa hi suggest karo toh achcha hai...kitne aaram se tum apne pairo par khadi ho naa yeh toh sab ko dikh raha hai!"

Nupur gave a convincing pout, "Mayank tum mere side ho naa?...toh unhe convince karo naa ki mujhe... ghar jaana hai...!!!"

Mayank never gave up, turning her to the left so that she walked back through the corridor that they had just walked through, "Main aisa kuch nahi karne wala hoon Nupur, unhe jo karna hain karein...main tumse jyada unki baat maan ne wala hoon..."

Nupur couldn't help giving up, "Sadu kahin ke..tumse to iss bare mein umeed rakhna hi bekaar hai...isse achcha main hi doctors se baat kar lungi...aane do iss baar mujhe check karne..."

Mayank gave her a thumbs up in order to suggest that she needed luck to have it her way. She smiled with a challenging face. Suddenly they were again the Mayank & Nupur who were fighting while playing crossword; suggesting of life getting back to normal.How ease a feeling of relief it brought for them too, Mayank especially.

Before Mayank could make Nupur lie down completely on her her hospital bed, she indicated him to listen to her soft whisper, "Mayank...waise hamare cupboard ke right drawer mein naa maine cash rakha hai...abhi uski zaroorat hogi naa hospital formalities ke liye...tum woh please le lena..."

Mayank was as amused as he was surprised at this suggestion, he declared "Nahi Nupur...I can easily manage it...iski koi zaroorat nahi hai..."

Nupur thought for a second, partly in doubt whether Mayank was just assuring her while facing tough time arraging for it? However, her decision was made, "Par please usse le lo...mujhe achcha lagega...!"

Mayank replied back while he made her lay down on her bed, "Main jaanta hoon ki tum hamesha se independent ho aur aage bhi rehna chahti ho...par sach mein main manage kar lunga..."

Nupur argued back, "Nahi tumhe woh lena hi hoga...abhi toh tumne kaha naa...main independant hona pasand karti hoon...main bhi apne liye cheezein manage karna chahti hoon...main sirf tumpar ek responsibility nahi hoon...infact tumhari responsibility share karna chahti hoon...banna nahi"

Mayank gave in and said, "Bas bas...ab itni badi badi baatein karna band karo...iss haalat mein tumhe suit nahi karta" and continued after almost receiving a glare from her "theek hai, jitni zaroorat hogi le lunga...khush ?"

Nupur replied back smiling, "Bahut!"

Mayank laughed and asked, "Ab main fruits lekar aata hoon...doctor ne tumhe fruits par zor dene ko jyada kaha hai...taaki tum jaldi theek ho jao..."

Nupur made a face and said, "Arghh...!!!...itne fruits khaungi toh saare swaad bhool jaungi...please mujhe unke prakop se bacha lo Mayank..." she almost joined her hands to Mayank.

Mayank laughed at her reaction and asked, "Main sirf itna hi kar sakta hoon ki tumhari pasand ka fruit le aaun...bolo kaunsa fruit kaogi?"

Nupur sighed making a face and said, "Tarbooz!"

Mayank repeated as a question,"Tarbooz?"

Nupur specified, "Mera matlab hai water-melon...wahi mujhe sabse jyada pasand hai...kuch din main uspe guzaara kar sakti hoon..."

Mayank shook his head and went out to get those to her.

Nupur just looked at the disappearing figure of Mayank. He really still was slowly becoming a greater figure to her with every day passing moment. She wondered how people reacted this way when their spouse was in such a situation so early in a marriage. It was hard to believe that one could handle everything as well as Mayank did. She so felt a pang of love engrip her once again, something more promising than love since it was Mayank.

How many times could heart manage to tell you that this IS THE one? To Nupur, it was becoming a frequent practice now somehow.

All that was worthwhile sitting here in the hospital was to think about him!
