For television stars, Bollywood has perpetually been the Holy Grail. And though the small screen's popularity has increased in recent years, with shows having more reach than ever before, it's still the silver screen that actors look towards while defining their career ambitions. One actor who's happy being the exception to this rule, however, is Gaurav Khanna.
Gaurav, who's received several film offers, has been turning them down to focus more on his TV prospects. And he says he doesn't regret it one bit. "I get a lot of good offers for films, but no good roles come by. I like being associated with television only," he says, explaining his decision.
But, he says, if and when he does take up a film role, he wants it to be alongside Salman Khan. "I'm a huge fan of Salman Khan. As a kid in Kanpur, I used to love his personality and would watch all his films. Even when I came to Mumbai, I became an actor because I wanted to be just like him," he says.
It's not just the acting technique that Gaurav has picked up from Salman Khan; he's even gymmed his way into having a perfect body. "In fact, I used to think that building my body was all that counted. I thought if I had a good body, I could become an actor, but it doesn't really work that way," he says.
The latest show Gaurav has signed on for is the J.D. Majethia soap Byaah Hamari Bahoo Ka, and he says he's very excited about this one. "This show doesn't have any negative shades to it, as people might have thought from the title. It's a very happy, lovable show. I work in shows that I would watch, and this is one where viewers would have a lot of fun watching. It's also got a unique concept, and I'm playing the husband of the bahoo in the show's title," he says.
