Skyrocketing cut offs bought joy to only a handful of students. You have to see it to believe it-the competition here is really cut throat and to make it worse we have reservations.I understand the need of it in a country like India but consider this situation :- Two students study in the same school and even class, having the same subjects and are being taught by the same teacher. Wonder of wonders they even get the exact same marks. But here is the most astounding part- while one gets admission into a top college the other is roaming around like a lost soul in a not-so-good college. Why?
Because of reservations.
And no, this isn't a hypothetical situation.
What can be a solution to this? Would it be more appropriate to reserve seats in schools? Then all the students who study in the same educational institution will have an equal and fair chance. That ways when students get selected in colleges it will be purely on merit basis and there will be no bias between a general category candidate and sc/st/obc candidate.College life has a huge influence on your career so wouldn't it make more sense that you get into it with sheer hard work?
I don't know about how well this could work or if it would work at all but there has to be some way around it.
