Superficially Arnav Singh Raizada and Khushi Kumari Gupta are very similar. Both hail from Lucknow, both lost their parents at a young age and were then raised by maternal family. However the two dealt with the upheavals in their childhood in markedly different ways. While Khushi grew up in Lucknow valuing religion and relationships, Arnav moved to Delhi where power and money became his markers for success in life.
The first fortuitous meeting between Khushi Kumari Gupta and Arnav Singh Raizada laid the foundation for all of their future meetings; it was accidental, full of misunderstandings and unwanted by both.
The second meeting proved just how similar these two individuals were but in their own ways. Their first meeting, ostensibly on Arnav's home ground in his childhood home and surrounded by press members showed the lengths to which Khushi would go for her family. Their second meeting, now on Khushi's 'home ground' in a religious setting showed just the same of Arnav; a self-proclaimed Atheist but willing to partake in religious activities for his sister.
Once again, the two clashed and Arnav finally met someone who wouldn't capitulate before his power and status. This act of defiance however would come at price for Khushi. Angered by her insolence Arnav released footage of their disastrous first meeting and Khushi found herself the object of ridicule in her hometown. The incident also facilitated the introduction of Shyam Jha into her life which would result in further catastrophe in her future.
Forced out of Lucknow and into her Buaji's house in Delhi Khushi once again (and quite literally this time) runs into Arnav. Undeterred from their previous altercation Khushi once again stands up for herself and asserts that she will pay for the damages to his car despite Arnav's belief to the contrary and accusations that she is a gold-digger.
The two meet once again when Khushi unwittingly starts working in Arnav's company to pay off her debt to him and thus began a set of cruel games set out by Arnav to humiliate and humble Khushi. Khushi rose to every challenge set and it was Arnav instead who was humbled. The first embers of attraction began to burn when Arnav saw Khushi dressed in a saree of his favourite colour and he was forced to accept that she wasn't as uneducated as he had first presumed. After saving Khushi from a speeding car Arnav experienced his first pangs of guilt and briefly questioned his actions.
However this was not the only instance in which Arnav's actions put Khushi's life in danger. When Khushi inadvertently mentions Arnav's girlfriend Lavanya to his Nani he orders her to work offsite unaware that the building is on the verge of collapse. Arnav arrives in time to save Khushi but unwilling to work for a boss who doesn't value her life Khushi quits and plans to move back to Lucknow.
While Arnav and Khushi both feel restless at the thought of parting but unsure as to why destiny continues to bring them together and on Teej Khushi's fast was broken unwittingly by Arnav providing the first indicator of their future relationship.
Having found admirers of her upbringing the Raizada family Khushi is invited into their home to train Arnav's girlfriend into becoming a suitable daughter-in-law. While Arnav is unwilling to have Khushi in his house once again they both show their willingness to bear burdens for their family. Khushi accepts the position of 'teacher' in order to pay her father's debts while Arnav agrees to the plan to appease his sister.
This phase would be the most important in Arnav and Khushi's relationship. Khushi began to see the 'Arnav' behind the 'ASR' facade when she witnessed his love for his sister as well as his compassion for a young child. Arnav in turn would witness Khushi's compassion for others, good nature and her general child-like wonder with the world. Arnav even swallows his pride long enough to apologize to Khushi when he realises he has misunderstood her empathy about his parents for pity. However his opinion of her as a meddling gold-digger prevailed while Khushi continued to lament over Arnav's casual approach to relationships.
The first instance of attraction on Khushi's side comes when she brings Arnav and Lavanya back together after they break up. On an occasion when she should have been happy Khushi found herself crying at the sight of Arnav and Lavanya hugging. Over the following days as Khushi tested out her new found emotions Arnav found himself increasingly and amused by her weird behaviour.
It was after their failed trip to Nainital that Arnav found himself questioning his attachment to Khushi once again. He was concerned for her health when she fell ill and enraged by a thug daring to hit Khushi but failed to understand why and once again pushed Khushi away.
When they return to Delhi, Khushi is distraught by the news of her father's hospitalisation and finds herself seeking comfort in Arnav when she rushes to hug him. Arnav who is still questioning his attachment to Khushi fails to hug her back and the two fall back into an awkward but slightly more aware relationship.
In the period that follows Arnav's changed reactions to Khushi can be seen when he furtively provides her with two silver coins she wanted and brushes over a favourite vase that Khushi inadvertently breaks. Khushi herself now under pressure to get engaged to Shyam finally realises that the increase of heartbeat and awareness she feels around Arnav could possibly be love.
The two then share many intimate moments culminating on Diwali night when unable to deny his attraction any longer Arnav almost kisses Khushi. Angered by his lack of control and the various emotions that Khushi makes him feel Arnav announces his engagement to Lavanya and lies to Khushi that she means nothing to him.
Arnav and Khushi once again plan to separate and never meet each other again and Khushi hurt by Arnav's dismissal of the moments between them agrees to marry Shyam. However as always they can never stay apart and Arnav finds comfort in Khushi's presence when he is upset after talking about his mother with Anjali.
Upon learning that Khushi is
engaged Arnav once again begins a set of games intending to force Khushi
into admitting her feelings for him. Once again however he's forced to
put an abrupt end to his games, unable to stand Khushi's tears against

Destiny then forces them to work together to bring their siblings Akash and Payal together and Arnav finally realizes how he misunderstood Khushi in their first ever meeting. The two share some light-hearted almost friendly moments as Payal and Akash's wedding is arranged in tandem with Lavanya and Arnav's and Arnav continues to feel jealousy towards Khushi's fianc. Lavanya recognises this increasing concern and preoccupation Arnav feels towards Khushi and the two decide to end their engagement at the same time that Khushi breaks her own engagement.
When Akash's cousin NK arrives for the wedding and builds an instant camaraderie with Khushi and Arnav's jealousy increases now with a visible competitor for Khushi's attentions. This stage is where their relationship begins to finally change for the better. The two engage in light-hearted challenges concerning New Years and Payal and Akash's Sangeet.
The Sangeet challenge ends with Arnav dancing with Khushi to ensure her victory highlighting just how much their relationship has changed since their initial meetings. In the lead up to the wedding Arnav begins to flirt with Khushi, helps her with the wedding preparations, buys her bangles and even kisses her cheek, challenging her to do the same.
His final realization however comes when he believes Khushi to have been in a car accident. He spends the night wondering why he was so affected and pondering upon Anjali's descriptions of love and how he would feel if ever he was to meet the right girl. Anjali's accident prompts him to accept his feelings and talk to Khushi but he then sees Khushi with Shyam and misunderstands the situation.
While seeing Khushi with Shyam inspired Arnav to once again hate her and believe that she was a gold-digger the temporary marriage that he then forced Khushi into similarly made her view him again as an unfeeling rakhsas, incapable of compassion and love.
Once again they entered into a series of challenges as Khushi tried to find out the reason Arnav married her. Despite now trying to hate each other the love they felt kept making reappearances. On Holi, under the influence of Bhang they finally revealed their true feelings to each other but both feigned ignorance later on. Arnav tried to hate Khushi and claimed he didn't want to see her and yet her missed Khushi when she wasn't around. Khushi similarly could not stand idle while Arnav's business was threatened and cared for him when he was ill.
The most significant indicator of their now changed relationship occurs when after their Heer-Ranjha performance Arnav saves Khushi from falling down the stairs. Reminiscent of their earlier altercation at the AR office however despite Khushi refusing his help once again, this time Arnav is unable to detach himself from the situation, unable to muster up the same amount of hatred for Khushi that he initially had.
When Arnav and Khushi temporarily move the Lakshmi Nagar they're forced into closer proximity and forced to share a bed. Their time at Lakshmi Nagar softened Khushi towards Arnav once again as she saw how he cared and provided for her family. Arnav also begins to fall for Khushi again only to have his anger renewed when he finds a letter addressed to Khushi from Shyam.
After misunderstanding Arnav's intentions but loving him too much Khushi decides to commit suicide so Arnav can be happy. Arnav manages to save Khushi in time and finally reveals the reason for their contract marriage. Khushi desperately tries to convince Arnav of the truth, unable to bear that Arnav would think so badly of her but he refuses to listen and leaves for London.
Just at the last moment before he is kidnapped Arnav wonders why leaving Khushi is so hard for him and almost turns around.
Khushi distressed that Arnav has left without believing her constantly misses Arnav until finally she has her own realization of love. When Arnav finally calls Khushi is unable to control her tears and then shock and happiness when Arnav proclaims his love to her. Arnav himself is relieved at finally being able to express his love while pained at the prospect of never seeing Khushi again.
The dreams they both subsequently have are telling of how their feelings towards each other have changed. Khushi who had always seen Arnav as an unfeeling Shaitan finally realises that he is in fact also her Raj Kumar and capable of providing her with all the love she had ever dreamed of. Arnav who had always wished Khushi away, always tried to force her out of her life finds himself dreaming of her presence and wishing she was in front of him.
When Arnav and Khushi finally meet again there is only love and longing. After so many misunderstandings, false starts and so many days apart the only thing that matters to them is that they are finally together. Once again Arnav is enraged by a thug trying to molest Khushi but he doesn't question his reaction this time, his only preoccupation is her safety.
runs into his arms and again Arnav doesn't question her seeking support
in him but provides it whole heartedly as he envelops her in his arms
and the two remember all the moments that they shared that ultimately
lead up to this moment, each special in its own way building the
foundation for their relationship.

It's incredible how quickly time flies by. It feels like yesterday when the first promo came on air. But it's amazing how a whole year has passed since the first episode was aired and our journey with Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon began. We turn to fiction for entertainment but once in a while a piece of fiction becomes a part of our life. Such is the pull of Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon.
The story, the characters and the emotions fascinate us. Their laughter fills us with joy; their pain brings tears to our eyes, their love makes us want to love and be loved. A part of our life revolves around two people named Arnav and Khushi or Arhi as we lovingly call them and their journey of love, life and togetherness.
What makes them special can hardly be described in a few words. It can only be felt. The bubbly and full of life Khushi makes us forget all our worries and her undying spirit inspire us to be as brave and spirited as her. While the ruthless, fearless, larger than life ASR is fascinating, his inner Arnav makes us want to reach out to him, soothe his pain and tell him we are there for him. Arnav and Khushi make us believe in age old romance and concept of soul mates.
Be it the sibling bonds, father-daughter bond, the friendships, the doting nani, the loving yet strict buaji or hidden concerns of mami, every character and the relationships are simple yet extraordinary.
The wonderful supporting cast of Daljeet Bhanot, Abhaas Mehta, Utkarsha Naik, Jayshree T, Akshay Dogra, Abha Parmar, Karan Goddwani, Deepali Pansare, Sanjay Batra, Rajesh Jais and Pyumori Mehta delivers flawlessly.
Although the character has exited, performance by Sana Khan can't be forgotten. Even the LP, OP the different HPs and Happyji leaves their marks. How can we forget Lakshmiji or even the invisible Aman?
We love and cherish every little thing about IPPKND .We love to say WHAT THE and HELLO HI BYE BYE, we love jalebis even more, try out outfits with pompoms and rabba ve or the background tunes are set as our ringtones. We check out IF between our work and school and watch out for SBS and SBB segments. Our day is incomplete without our daily dose of Arhi/ SaRun and IPKKND.
This is not just my story or my journey. This is our journey with Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon.
Barun Sobti and Sanaya Irani breathe life into Arnav and Khushi. Their performances touch our hearts and without them Arhi would never be Arhi. Their onscreen chemistry is rare, captivating and beautiful. When they step in front of the cameras, they mold themselves into the characters and Arnav and Khushi become real for us. Thank you Barun Sobti and Sanaya Irani for being Arnav and Khushi.
IPPKKND is not just a tale of star crossed lovers. But a story filled with all the colors of life. Thank you Four Lions Films for giving us Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon. Thank you CVs, cast and crew members for the hard work you put in every day to give us a magic called Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon.
