The Night Shift
The story revolves around a factory in Badlapur (I think that is the name of the town...not sure though) called Rupali Plastics.
The show starts at the factory, it is dark and a lone worker can be seen walking towards a machine. He goes up to the machine and fiddles with some knobs and starts it, but the machine starts acting up. We now hear heavy breathing sounds following the worker, and the "aatma" is looking at him (at the point we go into ghost vision, everything is blurry and green!!!) The worker now seems to realize that there is someone else there and starts shouting "kaun hai? kaun hai?". He turns around and is shocked, he soon dies (you cannot see how he dies, some blue circular thing was shown flying towards him).
A phone call in the middle of the night to a girl who was sleeping (later we come to know that the girl's name is Nicky). Her dad is apparently the owner of the factory and tells her about the hadsa in the factory. She gets upset because this is the third incident in three months when a worker has been killed in " the night shift". She assures him that she will be there the next night and he should not worry, as he is sick already. (I wonder yeh saare logon ki tabhiyat tabhi kyun kharab hoti hai jab kuch bura hota hai ya hone wala hota hai???) Next morning, she talks to her boyfriend, Samir, who is an engineer (how fortunate) to come with her to check the machines. A little romantic teasing ensues which looks pretty awkward.
On the other side, Mr. Mehta, the owner of the factory and Nicky's dad, is seen talking with the union leader who tells him that the union has decided that no one will work in "the night shift" anymore. Mr. Mehta gets mad. The union leader leaves after threatening him a little more and telling him that there is a "buri aatma ka saaya" in the factory. Nicky and Samir come and Mr. Mehta tells them about his conversation with the union leader and how he thinks that all these incidents are the doings of a Mr. Gupta, his rival. Mr. Mehta is working on an order rite now which cannot be completed unless the night shift is worked that is why he is so adamant about keeping it. Samir asks to go check the machine, after some persuasion from Nicky, Mr. Mehta agrees.
Samir goes to the factory and is checking the machines. He is baffled that everything seems rite with them. We are shown somebody's hand approaching him. He turns around with fear, and finds out it is only Rajpal, the level in charge and the union leader! rajpal tells him that the machines are alright and all the incidents are the work of the aatma of kashinath. As he is saying this, the clock strikes 9 PM and rajpal gets scared and tells Samir to come outside with him as it is now officially night and the place is no longer safe.
Outside, while over a hot cup of tea, rajpal tells samir all about kashinath. How he was the most hardworking worker in the factory, and how he was the one who did the night shift everyday. he tells him how kashinath was in love with the machines, and used to talk to them. Rajpal also tells him that kashinath wanted to send his younger brother to England for further studies!!! Now rajpal tells Samir how kashinath had a vice - drinking. He tells Samir that 3 months ago, kashinath had come to work a little drunk. He was also drinking while working. Moreover, the next day he was nowhere to be found. the police was called and they found his chappal and bottle of alcohol on the banks of some river that was nearby. They assumed he had been drunk and so he stumbled and fell into the river. (I love the convenient location of rivers...don't you???) They hear sounds of the machines now, and Rajpal is quick to point out that there is no worker in the factory and that kashinath's ghost is doing the work! Samir is skeptical and asks rajpal how he knows this for sure, rajpal shows him a metal license plate type thing which has yesterday's date in huge white print and tells him that it was made yesterday when there was no worker in the factory during night shift (apparently, the workers do nothing in the morning shift...rite??)
Samir is talking to Nicky and tells her that the machines are alright and how rajpal told him about kashinath. Nicky is quick to jump to her dad's aid and says that there are no such things as ghosts and it must be the work of gupta!!! Mehtaji is seen entering the conversation now and he tells him that he is giving double wages to three of gupta's workers to work in the night shift today. he is sure that gupta will not hurt them, so the work should go along fine tonight. Samir is still hesitant and Mehta assures him that everything is going to be alright! We see the workers working. One of them has to go to the bathroom. He is on his way out when Ghost vision is activated once again. The worker gets scared but before he can shout, he is dead. The second worker goes to look for him he finds him and shouts, Ghost vision on once again and boom, worker #2 is dead. Same happens with worker #3!!!
Next morning, you see police doing their work at the sight of the deaths. The inspector tells Mehta that the union is really mad and u should put an end to night shift. Mehta is adamant, he refuses, takes the inspector to the side and gives him a fat orange envelope and tells him to take care of everything. The inspector smirks. (Indian police at work...lolz...) outside the union is doing strike and shouting slogans against Mehta. Mehta steps out and is mad, he starts fighting with the leader. Samir to the rescue, he breaks up the fight and assures the union workers that their demands will be met. the workers leave.
That night, samir persuades Nicky to come to the factory with him to find out the raaz!!! Nicky is scared but comes nevertheless. they go in and find another one of those metal things with yesterday's date and on the back is written in red, "mujhe insaaf chahiye". (I love how the company's name is Rupali Plastics but its product is made of metal!!!) they are baffled. samir says that there must be something wrong here, he suggests they find any file regarding kashinath and his death. they look through the company's file storage but do not find anything. Nicky says that dad might have taken it home, so they go home!!! they find a file which says that kashinath gave 6 lakh to Mehta and is 50% owner of the company. Samir says that they need to know more about this deal and he says that your dad might lie but kashinath's aatma will not. Therefore, they go once again to the factory, this time when they are entering, Mehta sees them and wonders what they are doing at this time of night. Samir and Nicky go in and the door closes behind them. Nicky is scared but samir marofyies the typical dialogue, "daro mat, main hoon na!". They go and stand in the factory, ghost vision is on again....it comes from behind them, takes a circle around them and when it is in front of them it pushes them. they fall back, Nicky passes out (the delicate heroin could not stand a little push from the big bad ghost!!!). samir gets up and tells the ghost that they are here to give him insaaf and asks him what the chakkar with the 6 lakh and 50% ownership was. the ghost is seen in all his glory now, its just kashinath standing amid a cloud of smoke. he tells samir about that night when he died. *Flashback starts*. Kashinath is working and Mehta comes wearing as crisp business suit! he gives him 7 lakhs and tells him to sign papers which will say that he gives back his 50% ownership, when kashinath refuses, Mehta shoots him! And then drags and buries the body rite in the factory after digging a grave. (point to note, his suit is still crisp and clean!!!) at this pints Mehta walks in and samir starts accusing him of kashinath's murder and of him being an immoral man. Mehta gets mad and pulls out a gun and tells him that main tumhe tumhare dost kashinath ke paas pahunchane waala hun. But wait, its ghost to the rescue, the ghost hits Mehta, the gun falls and Mehta falls rite on top of the place where he had buried kashinath. Kashinath's corpse's hands come out of the ground and start choking Mehta. Soon Mehta dies. We are then shown that Mehta's and kashinath's aatmas both come out into the factory and start laughing maniacally!!!
THE END!!!
My rating: I thought it was an okay episode. they could not make it very scary. the Ghost Vision was an interesting aspect. the only scary part would be when kashinath's corpse started strangling Mehta. All actors acted pretty good esp. Mehta!!! overall, I would give it a 6 out of 10!!!
