firstly not all arabs or islamic countries hate the us.. i know a lot of arabs who adore the west, secondly even if we rule out the option that the whole 9/11 fiasco was an inside job to get international permission to attack afghanistan, you cannot blame the islamic or arab countries for  an act commited by maybe a cult like alqaeda or something else of the sort...
what has the us done to protect its citizens ?? by destroying  other countries for its economical benefit howexactly is the us protecting its own citizens??  to be proactive at the cost of humanity does not make us a superhero .. comingto the topic of discussion - i completely agree with what
Prometeus has said...

u r kidding right?Dead...3000 people were killed that day and u say it was an inside job?...what do u have to say about 26/11..mumbai, India...was that an inside job too?
How many serious attacks have happened in the US after 9/11...Zero...how many have happened in India...after 26/11 ...several...this is what happens when u don't protect ur own citizens and try to be Ms goody two shoesDead
US killed Osama although he was not in their hands and they had to hunt him down...what has happened to Qasab ...who was caught in action...still being treated royally in India...feeding on biryaniDead...the first duty of any government is to protect its citizens...everything else comes later...
agree with you , you know  there is documery of how 9/11 happened, there hypthesis that the plan did crash into the building...though still no clear reson.

How come Ahamedi Nejad is crazy guy!!!!?What he did??!! ahmadinejad is democratically elected leader by Iranian peoples!!  The issue here ,Israel and USA will never tolerate this new arising situation...they dont like Iran become a nuclear power nation...and other reason,America want to captured Iranian Oil, they are not satisfied with Libya and Iraq but they want more'. Israel is cancer in the world and US supports it's all kinds of rubbishes...and Who are Americans to tell other countries what to do & what not to do? When they tested nuclear & bombed hiroshima nagasaki or attcked in Iraq and other countries did they listened to any one?? Americans & their cronies europe are arrogant country..whats wrong in Iran testing for their safety even India has & country half full of terrorist has nuclear weapons!!! Actually US govt. want at-least 2-3 wars in every year for exporting ur weapons and making problems in this world..!Ouch

Other than the fact that Ahmedinejad refuses to recognize Israel as a state and wants to wipe it off the map and he has told multiple times that US deserved September 11 attacks... a quick Google search reveals some good quotes. (source - telegraph):

On the terror attacks of Sept 11 - March 2010

"The September 11 incident was a big fabrication as a pretext for the campaign against terrorism and a prelude for staging an invasion against Afghanistan."

On Jews - Sept 2007

"I'm not anti-Jew. Jews are respected by everyone, like all human beings, and I respect them very much."

On the Holocaust - Sept 2009

"They (the Western powers) launched the myth of the Holocaust. They lied, they put on a show and then they support the Jews."

On homosexuals - Sept 2007

"In Iran we don't have homosexuals like in your country... In Iran we do not have this phenomenon. I don't know who's told you that we have this."

On George W Bush - June 2008

"This wicked man desires to harm the Iranian nation."

On Osama bin Laden - May 2010

"I heard that Osama bin Laden is in Washington DC...Yes, I did. He's there. Because he was a previous partner of Mr Bush. They were colleagues in fact in the old days. You know that. They were in the oil business together. They worked together. Mr bin Laden never cooperated with Iran but he cooperated with Mr Bush."

You are right. This guy is not crazy because he is beyond repair. He should be put down.

As for your other points.. well, if you call Israel a "cancer", there is no point in discussing that. You are way far off from the truth but you are committed to your thought.

As for US attacking Hiroshima and Nagasaki, well, first of all, US was not interested in joining WW2. They were pulled into the war when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. Nuclear action was unfortunate.. but necessary to end the WW2.

As for "who" is US to tell anybody anything? Well, in simplest terms, historically, US has been the biggest money giver to these countries. They are dependent on US.

India is nuclear power but historically India has never shown intentions of wiping any country off the map of the world. India plays like a good player in a team or lives like a good neighbor if that makes sense. You cannot have a psycho neighbor - much less with a gun.

ETA - Thank you for this topic. It is so much refreshing to see a good political topic popping up every once in a while along with bunch of those let's guess who is gay. I have got this vibe that.. umm... someone is gay. Not that those topics are not fun. Just saying.
once again bias...

Whatever may happen, surely this is not going to be world war 3, because no one can afford it. even if US needs to export its weapons, divert the attention of public grom the failing economy and failure of barac obama administartion in election year, still even it cannot afford war. Most of the american citizens are against war. They are tired of the long and worthless war in Iraq which lead to the unnecessary loss of so many american soldiers and was such a drainage of their money.
Israel alone can carry out covert operations but waging full blown war is out of question. No one can support them. the EU has enough trouble of its own to  start slapping sanctions and  act big boss to the world. The strongest country in the EU is now Germany. It has had enough of war from the two world wars. And it most definitely will not go in a war when its just stabilised its own economy and is still dealing with the eurozone crisis.  Iran knows its fully well and half the stuff about nuclear war and nukes it spits out is just plain baiting, because they know it fully well that they are not going be penalised by some war. There are six sides of any cube. Arab worlds want Iran down and that is jumping up and down with the otherwise hated israel and US. Reason: Iran is shiaite and they are all sunnis. Israel lives in permanent paranoia, with good reasons. Since its inception, arab worlds have vowed to destroy it, reclaim jerusalem . Pre revolution Iran was the first country to recognise Israel, post revolution iran too joined the band and declared Israel to blow up. Israel claims iran funds the covert terrorist operation of the hezbollah in Israel. Israel has been alive in the middle of a completely hostile  neighbourhood by its sheer military might and proactive action. They will hunt anyone down who dares to attack them. But some of it might be unethical as well. they do not shy away from going into another country and killing their targets , flouting all sorts of rules. But it survives because of tht. US has a large Jewish population which holds considerable power, but that doesnt say US  tries to weaken Israel by going behind its back. INfact US shared information   about israle with saudi arabia ,whichISrael shared  with them in the past. So no one and nothing is a doodh ki dhula.

Where does India stand in it? it took till 1991 to recognise Israel as a state for India and  NDA govt in  establishing full blown diplomatic relationship is ISrael. India benefits largely from israle,it is strategic partner with Israel , and military partner. Israle helps India immensely. Israel votes for India in UN.

But India has thousands of years of cultural relation with Iran. Even if we overloki history, Iran provides India with cheap oil . Thats really huge. Iran supported India when pakistan tried  cut off the oil supply through afganisthan. Iran is business friend with India. India cannot afford to loose Iran. However iran never supports India on kashmir or other M related issues.
Whatever big brothers are saying about Iran to India, India cannot afford to follow it.  If it becomes completely dependant on arab world for oil, oil price will soar in India, leading to inflation and burden in our already burdened economy. Also it will lead to the arab worlds holding India to some sort of hostage and we all know their pro pakistan mentality.[ Not to mentionall those mysterious aids to paksitan which does nothing  to their economy except making some people very rich and  the 26/11 s in India)

Bottom line India cannot be a stooge to any country any more, it has to think for itself and decide which way to proceed  and look after its own interest first. No one cares about our Viswabandhu approach. China is ruthless and it is feared and fear is might now. Also  I wish India would take a cue from Israel when it comes to protecting its citizens.

However ideally there are a lot of things India has the power to do and can do and in ideal case would have done. But our country is run by politicans. Politicians are run by their own vote  bank politics.  This iran oil stand comes because of the desperate situation f economy and oil in India. if not, then who knows what would  have happened. After all we are the world's only country where minority rules by being minority.

Hope a WW111 can be avoided.
Isreal is all ready to pound on Iran, they are hungry for more blood.
Iran should tread carefully.

UN inspectors arrive in Tehran

Chief IAEA inspector Herman Nackaerts talks to reporters at Vienna airport on 20 February 2012 Chief IAEA inspector Herman Nackaerts said he hoped for "some concrete results" from the trip

UN nuclear inspectors have arrived in Tehran for the second time in a month to discuss Iran's nuclear programme.

Chief inspector Herman Nackaerts said his team's "highest priority" was to clarify the "possible military dimensions" of the nuclear programme.

But he cautioned that progress "may take a while".

Iran insists it is enriching uranium to use for power generation, but Western nations believe the programme is geared towards making weapons.

Tensions have risen over speculation that Israel may carry out a military strike on Iran's nuclear facilities.

US national security adviser Tom Donilon arrived in Israel at the weekend for talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior officials.

But the head of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey, warned on Sunday that it was still unclear whether Iran was at a stage to assemble a nuclear bomb.

"On that basis, I think it would be premature to exclusively decide that the time for a military option was upon us," Gen Dempsey said.

'New developments'

Last week Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad took part in an elaborate ceremony to unveil new developments in his country's nuclear programme.

Tehran said it had used domestically-made nuclear fuel in a reactor for the first time, as well as developing faster, more efficient uranium enrichment centrifuges.

State TV showed the president inspecting the fuel rods as they were loaded into a reactor.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (R) during a tour of Tehran's research reactor (February 15, 2012) Iranian media showed President Ahmadinejad (at right) at a ceremony to unveil "new developments" in Tehran's nuclear programme

The IAEA inspectors described their last visit, in January, as positive, and said Iran was "committed" to "resolving all outstanding issues".

Mr Nackaerts said on Sunday that he hoped to have a "couple of good and constructive days in Tehran".

"Importantly we hope for some concrete results from the trip. The highest priority remains of course the possible military dimensions of Iran's nuclear programme, but we want to tackle all outstanding issues," he said.

"This is of course a very complex issue that may take a while. But we hope it can be constructive".

The inspectors' evaluation of their visits may form part of the next written report on Iran's nuclear programme, expected later in February.

But last November, the IAEA said it had information suggesting Iran had carried out tests "relevant to the development of a nuclear explosive device".

That information led to a decision by the US and the European Union to tighten sanctions against Iran, including measures targeting the country's lucrative oil industry.

Iran said on Sunday it had halted oil sales to British and French companies ahead of an EU oil embargo set to begin on 1 July. Analysts say the gesture of retaliation is largely symbolic.

On Monday, the head of Iran's national oil company said the ban might be extended to other EU members that continued "hostile acts" against Iran.

Ahmad Qalehbani said exports to Spain, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Germany and the Netherlands could be stopped, semi-official Mehr news agency reported

If he is so lovable and such a great leader ...then why were there protests against him in Iran and all over the world by the Iranians??

So what you're saying is even though US failed to ascertain the existence of WMD, it had the right to bomb the hell out of Iraq. I can see the "logic" in that.
So how have the "proactive strikes" worked out for the countries involved and the US? Do you think the Americans feel safer today?

Yep. US has all the rights to protect its citizens. Sorry, you do not understand the concept of hindsight and potential threat. AQ, consisting of mostly tribal nomads with bunch of stolen guns was dismantled from Afghanistan and had started spreading to Iraq and other regions. If nothing else, Iraq war kicked AQ's butts.

Iraq war is questioned (and rightly so) mostly because of its financial impact on the US economy. Seriously, who cares about Saddam?

Being proactive has worked perfectly well for the US. 10+ years and no terror attacks unlike, say, India.
