Exactly a year ago (I know, hard to believe, right?ShockedWacko),

two of the most loved and cherished jodis of Indian television tied the knot in a private, home ceremony on February 15th, 2011.Heart

Who are they, you ask?
Geek

They first rose to fame playing Lord Ram and Devi Sita in Sagar Arts 2008 Ramayan, and after having garnered many fans not only in India but internationally as well for their dedicated work, reached even greater heights in their successive projects.

Gurmeet Choudhary, well known among his fans as the enigmatic business tycoon, Maan Singh Khurana of Star One's Geet Hui Sabse Paraayi, one of the most popular and well loved shows of the channel, is all set to start his new project on the 20th of February this year. He will be enacting the mysterious and moody Yash of Zee TV's Punar Vivah, and will act opposite Kratika Sengar, who is famously known as Rani Laxmibai of Sagar Arts' Jhansi Ki Rani. Gurmeet is lovingly known as Ramji and Maan Sir by his loyal fans, and we hope that soon Yash too will be added to the list.

Debina Bonnerjee Choudhary on the other hand, instead of going into daily TV serials after playing the beautiful and graceful Sita Mata of Ramayan, tried her hand in a few reality shows like Pati Patni aur Woh (which Gurmeet also participated in), Zor Ka Jhatka, and Star Ya Rockstar. She also acted in three episodic roles of Sagar Arts' Mahima Shani Dev Ki, another popular mythological show, as Sati Savitri, Princess Damayanti, and Ganga, all three of them faithful devotees of Lord Shani. Finally however, she recently settled down with the highly entertaining and well-received comedy show of SAB TV, Chidiya Ghar, and is quickly becoming known by her adoring fans as the bubbly and loveable Mayuri Narayan.

Last but not least, Gurmeet and Debina acted in a short, documentary movie called Nayi Chetna, which focuses on the merits of donating blood to those who need it. This isn't the only film they have done. Before being introduced to television, Debina acted in a few South Indian and Punjabi movies, and Gurmeet is all set to release his new, well-awaited Punjabi movie, Dinkar Kapoor's Yaar Mera Rab Warga sometime this April or May.

Throughout all their new projects, beginning with their first ever show on television together, the tamil 3D fantasy Mayavi, Gurmeet and Debina have stuck with each other through thick and thin and supported each other's successes and failures, and have now become one of the most faithful and loving offscreen couples of the television industry.

So please join us today in wishing this lovely couple a happy 1st anniversary, and also continued success in whatever venture they attempt now and in the future. May their marriage continue to bear fruit and give them the happiness and prosperity they deserve.

All the best, Gurmeet and Debina Choudhary!

-As Told By Gurmeet
-

http://gurmeetdebina.india-forums.com/journey/

In 2004, there was a Sahara Bollywood star contest held, where actors from all over the country were auditioned, and the winner would obviously be well promoted. Debina came in from Kolkata and me from Mumbai. Only 15 were shortlisted and the two of us belonged to this shortlisted lot. We were held up at a 5-star hotel here in Mumbai. We never really had any kind of conversation actually. It was only confined to the eye sight! Yes, once in a while joking around or just a simple hi-hello was exchanged but nothing beyond. Then one day, we were all sitting for dinner in the hotel where Debina was seated next to me. I casually asked her where she's from and where she stayed before entering into this contest. She replied Adarshnagar and I faked that I was from there too and how we must get married! I told her I would talk to her parents for her hand and we would live happily ever after in Adarshnagar! And truthfully this was all said with non seriousness at all! I guess it turned out to be one of those things that we just happen to say and turn true.

After the contest, Debina bought a flat and we had a common friend from the contest, thus meeting and keeping in touch was always on even post the contest. Time past and very soon we realized we were smitten by each other! We struggled together though I was not as financially strong as her. But Debina was always my pillar of support... she was my family! She held my hand when times were rough and always pushed me forward when I would slacken. Fortunately I always groomed myself and worked on my acting, action and dance skills. Because this industry has cut throat competition and I believe what leaves a remarkable impression behind is impactful acting, not just plain acting. So my self-preparation was progressing. Debina was familiar and experienced with the South industry and had done good work there. She introduced me to a director from there who offered me a villain's role in a 3-D serial while Debina was the actress. "Mayavi" (the 3-D serial) was well received especially in South India. There was the 'Seoul festival' for 3-D movies where our serial was screened. It was a hit and we even bagged an award for it after which it was even shown at Mumbai. Suddenly I felt from within that now I was prepared for films and I should start trying for them. That is when Subhash Ghaiji's Mukta Arts was making a film in Goa. It was a one month shoot. I was shortlisted and wrapped that up soon. But unfortunately like the many films in Bollywood, this one too is over delayed for release but will hopefully come onto the big screen some day! Soon I was then offered a role in "Ramayan".

A lot of people told me how I should or shouldn't do it since its mythology! But I've always maintained in all my interviews too, how I'm eager to do something different and not ordinary. In this industry that is what works and long lasts! So I thought trying for "Ramayan" would be something hatke! I went for the auditions, and got selected for Ram's role! I was extremely happy! I asked Debina too to try out the auditions and she bagged the role of Sita! When we announced this to all our friends and family, they were very surprised and couldn't stop congratulating us! Because being in a relationship for four years, and then playing such a holy couple on-screen, was quite a 'mythological' coincidence! I was very, very happy! More so with the reviews I got. Many of the fans said they began watching the show after seeing Ram. It was a moment of pride for me...I would be spotted and called out as 'Ram'! The show had earned me so much fame and love! But obviously an actor would want to be known for his own name.

Then came along 'Pati, Patni aur Woh'! The timing couldn't have been better. It was a totally different concept. The remaining sections of the audience who probably didn't watch 'Ramayan' watched this reality show and here too Debina and I were so well-received, that we garnered the highest number of votes! After 'Ramayan' our world did change but after 'Pati Patni aur Woh', it leaped forward and positively even more! Fans would yell out 'Guru' on seeing me because of Debina calling me that on the show. It felt wonderful. More so since they never hesitated in approaching me. I think they sensed the no-attitude in me and felt familiar. So after this show, we were finally known by our real names and we continue talking to our fans as friends whenever we meet them. It's very informal and homely.

"Guru gives me inputs to improve"- Debina Bonnerjee

TellyBuzz in conversation with Debina Bonnerjee about her new show in SAB TV, Chidiya Ghar

After playing Sita, the 'Maa' of all the bahus of Indian Television, Debina Bonnerjee is back to fiction with SAB TV's recently launched show Chidiya Ghar. From portraying the serious Sita to the fun loving Mayuri in this show, Debina has taken a diametrically opposite leap.

In an exclusive conversation with TellyBuzz, Debina speaks about her new show and her reality shows' experiences which did not click well.

Excerpts'

What was the real reason for you to take up the show?
I do not think there could have been a better character than Mayuri for me to come back. It cannot be compared to what I have done before and any other character if I play would be similar to what I have done before because ultimately all Indian television bahus are like Sita. And I portrayed the ultimate one.

Can you please describe something about your character?
I play the role of Mayuri. The character is really mad, bindaas and does crazy stuff that we normally do at home all the time. You sing out loud when you are driving in a car alone or you dance alone at home where you try out some simple steps from any movie.

How is the experience shooting for a comedy show?
The shoots are so full of energy and the demand of energy level is more than what we have. I am thoroughly enjoying it, so much that I am fatigued by the end of the day.

How is it shooting with a director like Ashwini Dheer?
Ashwini Ji shoots so well and it is really a treat to work with a director of his stature. His comic timing and his thought is so unique that sometimes the script and what comes out ultimately is so different. He makes you do so many things at one time. For instance, once he just asked me to dance which I did. And then he says you are doing this and dancing and also say the dialogues along with it. Once he asked to climb on a table dancing, which I did.

After playing a serious character like Sita and now a comedy, which once do you think is tougher?
Comedy is definitely tougher because when we do a serious character there are certain limitations and we have to work within that. But when the character is limitless, then there is a lot to explore. There are a lots of things to explore in this and through this I am exploring myself and Ashwini Ji is the diamond carver.

You have done reality shows as well which did work as expected. So do you believe that you belong to the daily soap genre?
I love doing reality shows and hence I do not know what to say. Dance is my forte and since I have not done a dance based reality show, I would like to try that.

Any particular one that you are craving to do?
I definitely want to try Jhalak Dikhlaa Ja and frankly speaking Guru (Gurmeet Choudhary) and I were offered Jhalak when we were doing Ramayan, but we were under a contract because of which we could not do it. We were also offered Nach Baliye that year, but that also we could not take up and Nach Baliye did not happen after that season.

When you said that you were going to do a show on SAB TV, what did Gurmeet say?
He was really excited and after Ashwini Ji if there is someone who has given me inputs is Guru. He used to call me from his sets saying Debina ye karo, tum wo karo, tum ye kar sakte ho etc etc. He is super excited about the show.

Do you watch any other shows on SAB TV?
I do watch Lapataganj at times because some of my friends are doing it. I do not watch any shows for that matter regularly, but what I have noticed in most of the cases is that when actor friends' get together and when the chit chat is going on, it is always SAB TV that we switch on. In between we just watch and laugh at the funny moments.

A message to the India-Forums fans?
I love all my fans who have been there and supported me through out. It is only because of them that I am back again and I will not disappoint you. You seriously need to see the show to believe what I could do which is pure madness (laughs).

Some pictures of the shows which Gurmeet and Debina did together:

Gurmeet and Debina's thoughts after the end of Ramayan

To All Our Blog Readers,

Long time right? Sorry for not being able to reach out to you all earlier but schedules have been quite hectic. Today we both are in a nostalgic mood as its been a year since Ramayan ended. We thought why not share our thoughts on these golden days with you.

Debina: I had to cry for the last scene of the last episode, my tears far from being just on-screen became quite visible off-screen. I was in pain as my character of Sita which I had played for 1.5 years was coming to an end; I had felt Sita's pain throughout the portrayal of the character and it was difficult to see this journey come to an end. After a day or so, we all sat down together to see the episode and I had to ask Guru to tell me if people around could feel Sita's pain. It was with the death of Sita that our whole team realized that the show had really come to an end. As I narrate this day to you all, my eyes are again filled with tears. Those were really the golden days and unknowingly we created history.

Gurmeet: With the end of Sita, we all came to the realization that the show as about to end. For the first time in my life, I cried loudly like a baby. Debi somehow managed to calm me down. I still remember my last scene in which I had to walk barefoot on a hot ground and then enter a river. It was really hot that day but the pain inside me was so immense that I felt no external pain. I loved living the character and eating, sleeping, drinking Ram. I thought let me drown Ram today and though I was not required to cry for that scene, my heart was shedding a thousand tears.

Even today I miss those days but Ram went into the river and Maan emerged out. Work has to go on but the satisfaction and enjoyment I felt in portraying Ram's character is unmatched. I actually never realized how effortless my days were during Ramayan with Debina on my side but it is after the end of the show I began to miss Debina's chirpiness, her voice and having her by my side. To this day, I keep calling Deb in the middle of shooting to hear her voice as that keeps me going. We both loved Ramayan and as a couple we both really created history with the show.

Love,

Gurmeet & Debina

Fans first expressed a wish to see this couple together in real life after viewing the magical Sita Swayamvar and Ram-Sita Vivah sequences of Ramayan.

To re-live the experience, or even if you are a fan who has never seen Ramayan before, take the chance to go back in time and see these videos again!

Afterwards, Gurmeet and Debina made this fond wish a reality by declaring their relationship to the public soon after Ramayan came to an end.

They took part in a reality show called Pati Patni aur Woh, where they dealt with children of all ages to get some experience and feedback on how their lives would be after they got married and had children. It was in this show that Gurmeet proposed to Debina and she accepted him. It is a moment in their lives which fans can never forget.Day Dreaming
