hi all ,
A short midweek update. Promise will make it a long one for weekend. Keep the comments coming
A week later at KGH Dr Rangnath was in a quandary; Dr Ashutosh had left for a conference abroad the day before and would not be back for a month. He had left him in charge of the hospital. The resident paediatrician had gone down with a viral and they were short staffed. Since the departure of Dr Malika they never felt the need for an extra doctor as Dr Ashutosh had been handling both areas and now it seemed with his departure a grain of sand had entered the well oiled machinery that was KGH.
He had called their usual agency had proposed a name which to him seemed idea but he did not know what to do. Would what he was about to do be in work interest or would he be tempting fate.
Finally he dialled the number:
"Nidhi, Rangnath here, can we meet I have to talk to you, I'll be over after work" he asked knowing that a direct approach was better when it concerned Nidhi.
" Of course," came the reply, Nidhi found it surprising that Rangnath would call her, and wanted to meet her as for the past two years she had tried to go stay away from anyone that could be linked to Him, Anji was her best friend and she was very happy that she and Rangnath had sorted out their issues and were happy together. She decided not to bother too much about the meeting thinking that it would relate to Anji or family.
Later that evening she realised how wrong she had been when she heard him utter these words,
" Nidhi you have to come back at Kotnis," , Nidhi could not believe that him of all people would come to her with such a proposal, She was aware that he knew about what happened two years ago, well at least he knew the diluted version she had given Anji.
" How could you, of all people ask me to come back to that place that has given me nothing but pain and sorrow" she asked in a trembling voice.
" I know that but everything is not about you, I was shocked when the agency gave your name, but we need you there Nidhi, the children need you. I am sure you are going to say there are other doctors but you are the only one who is aware of how KGH functions..."
She knew that Rangnath had a point she knew KGH and he had played it mean when he mentioned the children, But there was a question that needed to be asked,
"What does Dr Ashutosh have to say about that, does he know that you are here , and more importantly does he know that my name has been forwarded by the agency" she asked in a voice she hoped appeared steady.
"Dr Ashutosh is not in the country and will not be back soon, he is attending a conference abroad and afterwards will be lecturing in Delhi" he replied.
She was to some extent appeased with his assurances as unwittingly he had given her the possibility to satisfy a yearning that had resurfaced since that encounter at the hospital. Nidhi had tried to quell the desire that she had to see him but that one time destiny had brought her to his door and now she was being another occasion to back there, KGH had thought her a lot more so had made her discover love the joys and pains associated with it.
Now she had the chance to back there to work but at the same time to relive the memories she was happy that she would get back to where it all started and that her presence would not make him suffer. How hard these two years had been only she would know that, being in the same city yet making sure that their paths did not cross, she avoided Rangnath as she knew he would have tried to talk about Ashutosh.
As much as she hoped her stint at KGH would go smoothly, it seemed that someone or rather something had something else in store. Back in London, Ashutosh had wrapped his work at the conference earlier than anticipated, he wanted to go back. He had accepted Arman's request to come to London hoping that distance would bring some peace and tranquillity to his tortured soul, but he was wrong, .Seeing Nidhi had revived desires he had buried deep within, they had not crossed path since that terrible day in his office but not a day went by where she did not cross his mind.
He ultimately decided to come back to Lucknow instead of the Delhi stop over, since that encounter he had been restless and the trip to London did not have the desired effect. Returning to Lucknow where at least her memories would be clearer with her had more appeal that wondering aimlessly in the city, at least back at KGH he could try to keep himself buried in work, it had worked for the past two years why not now?
Having accepted the offer after a double re assurance that Dr Ashutosh would not be around Nidhi had gone back to KGH and to her it felt like a homecoming. She loved the feeling of being back to the Children's ward, she had worked in other hospitals but since going away from Kotnis she had opted to work as replacement doctor as she knew that she would not have time to form long lasting bonds with the children and staff, leaving KGH at first time had been an experience she never wished to repeat. At least now she could be in the same place where he spends all his time without breaking the promise made two years ago.

A little birthday treat for my wonderful readers on my special day
Back at KGH Nidhi was relishing every minute of her time there, she was no more an intern and in that respect her decisions on the ward were accepted, as usual her non conventional approach did raise a few eye brows but she did not care. If the children were happy that for her that was what mattered. She had thought that being back would be a return to all the pain but she was wrong. As usual with her presence she had revived the rather drab looking ward with her humor and joie de vivre. Little did she know that things were about to change.
It was free time on the ward as the children had just awaken up from their nap. In a bid to keep them busy before meal time, Nidhi had taken those children who were on the mend out in the play room. Spending time with them was for her a balm to her soul for children were a common passion that she shared with Dr Ashutosh. That day they had decided to play hide and seek and it was her turn to be blindfolded. Whilst they were at play here someone else was entering the premises.
Ashutosh had decided to come back to KGH direct from the airport as he did not want to go back home to meet Kaka's questioning eyes, as questions there were since that encounter with Nidhi he had closed up more than ever burying himself more than ever in his work. Little did he know that he was about to get another shock as he stepped back in KGH. As usual the news of Dr Hardstone being on the premises had sent everyone in a flurry as they knew should he find something awry they would be in deep trouble.
He was about to enter the lift when he heard sounds of giggles from one of rooms, it was from one of the play areas that have not been in use for some time. He decided to go and investigate wondering who would have dared to go against his orders. The scene awaiting him was one that left him speechless, a group in front of him was running all about the place and in the middle, someone blindfolded trying to grab the children. The moment the children spotted him they stopped, the elder ones knowing that they were in deep trouble, it was common knowledge that Dr Ashutosh was a stickler for rules and one such rule stated that children were not to move out of ward.
Ashutosh was beginning to wonder what had happened in his absence, his hospital suddenly had changed to a playground and this was something he would not accept, he alone knew the cost of change, the last time he had allowed change in both his life and his way of work she had stepped in his life. Dr Rangnath would have a lot to answer for, in his own thoughts he had temporarily ignored the presence of the blindfolded person when he just felt a hand grabbing his arm and heard "Gotcha", he could not believe his ears, that voice, as Nidhi started to remove her blindfold she was struck by the silence.
When her eyes met his, it was as if suddenly the world around them did not exist, they had been transported back to another time another place when she had got hold of him when playing with the children, the time when everything had started, she had started to discover the man behind Dr Hardstone. At that movement she realized how ironical that was, same setting yes but how different the situation was, seeing him again, touching him not only revived her longing but her bitterness, her anger and more so the souvenir of her promise.
She let go of him and turned to the children trying to the best of her ability to hide her troubled state.
" Okay kids, time to get back to the ward, meal time coming up" she said in what she hoped to be a normal voice and made a hasty exist with the children in tow.
Ashutosh for his part was still trying to assimilate what had just unfolded. What was Nidhi doing here, and with the children, how come she was in the hospital were the first thoughts. He relieved that one moment of hearing her voice, feeling her hand on his arm it was as if for that one moment he had come home, gone was the restlessness and the pain. He knew that he had to figure out what was happening and that this was not the time for feelings and emotions and there was only one man who had the answer to his queries that man was Rangnath.
He made his way to Rangnath"s office his mind still trying to make out as to why Nidhi was here and how Rangnath of all people could have brought her here, there were very few people who knew or at least had an idea of what had transpired two years ago and Rangnath was one of those select few. He was about to knock when he heard what clearly was Nidhi's voice
" How could you do that to me? Did you know that he was coming back?" she questioned in an angry tone.
"No Nidhi, Dr Ashutosh came back unannounced he was not expected till the end of the month" came the reply. Rangnath for his part was actually appreciating this twist in the action. He had hoped that by bringing Nidhi back to KGH it would rekindle her feelings and now fate was helping by bringing the object of the feelings in front of her.
Nidhi was at a complete loss, she knew that Rangnath was telling the truth as he would for sure not mess about on this issue. How is she going to deal this, staying would mean facing him and with this breaking her promise. Little did she know that someone else was facing the same inner battle? From what he had heard Ashutosh concluded that Rangnath had hired her, so how to get out of this situation...
