Band, Baaja & TRPs on prime time soaps

Shiv and Parvati after their wedding ceremony on the sets of Mahadev More Pics
Matches in real life might be made in heaven, but in a reel-y soapy life, perfect marriages make the fortunes of a prime time daily catapulting it to new TRP highs.

The sheer visual extravaganza that a marriage track in a telly show involves ' the colourful wedding rituals, lavish sets, custom-made wedding trousseau for the lead couple (and their extended/immediate families), an ensemble of new characters or even a cross-over episode or two with lead characters from other soaps shaking a leg at the wedding functions, a liberal dose of drama ' ensures max eyeballs.
Since Indians, believe in celebrating every festival and occasion with great joy and pomp, show makers use wedding tracks to establish a greater connect with the audience. Now it seems like the wedding season on TV, with top prime time dailies, Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha, Hitler Didi, Ek Doosre Se Karte Hain Pyaar Hum, Teri Meri Love Stories, Madhubala ' Ek Ishq Ek Junoon, Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev, Alaxmi ' Hamari Super Bahu getting the knotty edge.
"As a nation we love weddings, so we like to watch them on TV too. Wedding tracks are colourful, full of drama and song-dance sequences and these tracks garner high ratings as they are high points of a story. Plus, the audience also relates to the happiness of the characters of the show," says producer Sudhir Sharma of Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha
Producer Nikhil Sinha whose Devon Ke Dev Mahadev had a TRP-tripping wedding track says, "Marriages offer a visual treat for the audiences. Wedding tracks appeal to audiences because of the strong emotional and cultural connect they establish with the audience and also because of the high drama. Marriages in TV shows not only bring in TRPs, they also add a feel-good factor to the show."
Typically when a storyline of a show is on the verge of reaching a stagnation point or requires a little dramatic turn, the wedding tracks serve the requisite purpose by acting as a catalyst and taking the storyline forward. "Marriage tracks take the story to another level. Weddings add a lot of Entertainment value and audiences love to see them," says producer J D Majethia of Ek Doosre Se Karte Hain Pyaar Hum.
But haven't marriage tracks become cliched in TV soaps? Isn't it high time producers experimented with something different to grab the viewers' attention, even when they shoot a wedding track? What about audience fatigue? "Every soap follows the same formula during a wedding track ' visually appealing sets, designer costumes, lots of song sequences, celebrity guests. The audience expects all these elements and we don't diappoint them," shares Majethia.
And in case you thought the wedding fever was short-lived, hold your breath. Prime time shows like Pavitra Rishta, Balika Vadhu ' Kacchi Umar ke Pakke Rishte, Love Marriage Ya Arranged Marriage, Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hain, Dil Se Di Dua... Saubhagyavati Bhava?, Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? have wedding tracks lined up, complete with all the laughter, romance, tearjerking and dramatic moments that keep the soap addicts hooked to their sets. Bring on the popcorn box and revel in The Band, baaja and baarat, while channels and producers dream of better and bigger TRPs!

Akanksha Singh with her boyfriend

The cast and crew of the popular Colors' Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha(Sunshine Productions) are currently shooting in Nepal. And the channel has flown across a select bunch of journalists to cover the shoot in the mountain kingdom.

Now guess who has been giving the roundabout to the media at the shoot? Yes, you guessed it right: Akanksha Singh who plays the role of the female lead, Megha. Now, there have been media reports about a mystery man who has been spotted with Akanksha in Nepal. She has been seen with a guy during the schedule who is apparently her boyfriend. And before you start getting any ideas that male is definitely not her paramour in the show Mohan (Kunal Karan Kapoor).

The male accompanying her has been on the sets, hiding behind laptops, books, when Akanksha has been filming. He has even asked for tea, kulfi that Akanksha has been guzzling and slurping.

After pack up, however, it is a different story. Apparently, in a bid to avoid the media, Akanksha and her beau have been prone to flee from the sets and moved to another hotel to have their meals.

Though she denied being in a relationship with him and stated to be "just friends", but guys…the mystery man in Nepal is no one else but the same Kunal.

Yes, Akanksha has traveled all the way to Nepal with her arm candy and is secretly romancing amidst clouds and rains.

Akanksha Singh- Jaipur

Mohan Bhatnagar's new wife might be blushing pink nowadays in the show, but the real life Megha, or Akanksha, belongs to Pink City-Jaipur. She was creatively inclined in her Jaipur days too, acting in plays and on regional television along with pursuing her physiotherapy course. And then this Jaipur girl burst on the map of India as Megha Vyas, nee Bhatnagar.

How can we talk about tinseltown and not include Mumbai? Mumbai has its fair contribution in the form of Kunal Karan Kapoor, Drashti Dhami. Kunal has lived in Mumbai all his life and RK studio, the iconic Mumbai landmark, is one of the reasons he entered tinsel town.

Renu's double whammy in Na Bole Tum!

We've seen Renu taunt Megha, we've seen her go against Mohan and plot about Mohan and Megha's separation. But what if you see Renu being all posh and well-educated? That is what is going to happen in Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuchh Kaha as the show gears up for the entry of Venu, Renu's twin sister. That is what we call double trouble!
But Venu doesn't seem to have picked up Renu's characteristic mean streak. And neither has she found domestic bliss. Venu, who will be seen on the show soon, is a well-educated and smart woman. Not street smart and conniving like Renu Vyas, though. Venu, unlike her sister, is a naive woman. And she will spice things up in the Vyas house.
Venu is an air hostess by profession and will come into the Vyas family. Though Renu is settled with her husband and son, Venu is still single and more than ready to mingle. She is an air hostess by profession, but her love life still hasn't taken off. That is why she is forever on the lookout for her soulmate. And we have news on who her potential soulmate is.

Venu's next love will be none other than our very own Guru! Guru, our eternal bachelor, will be the next target of Venu, who will pursue Guru according to advice from her astrologer. Poor Guru!

So if Renu wasn't enough to cause chaos in the Vyas household, her alter ego Venu is also jumping in the fray. All we can say is, beware of the twins!
