I can't play the same character for years
Shraddha Nigam talks about her experience of working on Pakistani TV, and her future here in India
Shraddha Nigam shot to fame with the portrayal of a mentally challenged girl in Choodiyaan. Since then, she has always charmed the audience with her charisma both as an actor and a host of game shows.
On her absence from the small screen, since her last serial Dekho Magar Pyaar Se went off air in November
Well, technically, I haven't been missing. I did a few episodes for Darna Mana Hai and was hosting Kalakaarz, a reality show on Doordarshan. I was more active on the Pakistani small screen. I did a serial for ARY channel in Pakistan, which was a nice experience. It was a light-hearted serial and most importantly, their serials don't run as long as Indian serials do. In fact, I may do more serials for them.
On keeping herself away from the saas-bahu soap
To be honest, it is my personal choice. Although I'm not against the idea of a saas-bahu serial per se, everything has its advantages and disadvantages. Doing a saas-bahu serial may give me immense popularity but it may also typecast me as an actor. I may become popular for the character I'm playing and not for the actor I am. My identity would be restricted to that one role whereas I like to experiment and do different things. I can't play the same character for years. The fact that I'm not slotted for roles makes me feel free.
On Ekta Kapoor having offered her roles
(Laughs) Why do you ask me only about Ekta Kapoor and not other producers? To answer your question, yes, I was offered roles by her. But I can't tell you for what and when. It is not right to say so because, at times, certain projects don't work out.
On she being linked to Sanjit Bedi (Dr. Omi of Sanjeevani)
He is a talented professional actor. Let people say what they want to. It does not affect us. He is my best buddy. In fact his wife is a dear friend too. We are like family and I often accompany them on their vacations. Our respective families know of our friendship and it's no big deal. & nbsp;
On when to expect her on Indian small screen
I have two to three projects in the pipeline. But I don't think I can take up all three. Something is on the cards definitely. Dates too have been scheduled. I guess you can watch out for me on Star.
