LOCK KAR DOON? Amitabh Bachchan on the sets of KBC; with Harshvardhan Nawathe, the first crorepati | We told you it was going to be back but we weren't sure when. Now it's official. The new season of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) will now roll in August in the weekend prime time slot.
Star Plus, along with quizmaster/ producer Siddhartha Basu, has already begun work on various aspects of the show. Initially scheduled to air from June, the much-delayed new season now seems to be on course.
Computerji and anchor Big B's long sabbatical is finally over. Computerji is being updated, while the familiar Bachchan baritone will go, "Afsos…yeh galat jawab hai!"
"Things have been rolling on the KBC front," says Shailja Kejriwal, creative director, Star Plus. "We have already begun work on it. It goes on air in August in the weekend slot. We are definitely looking at the weekend. It will be part of Star's new weekend programming line-up, " she informs.
Kejriwal adds that the show's host, Amitabh Bachchan, has given the dates for the shoot.
"In fact, Mr Bachchan has already begun rehearsing for the show," she adds.
Says Basu, who is in Mumbai for talks with the channel, "Yes we are ready to roll. We have always been on our mark. The basic concept remains the same but we are making it easier for people to register through tele-registering."
Interestingly, Film City — where KBC is shot — still has Bachchan's make-up room along with his waxwork intact on the sets. "We were just waiting to get the go-ahead," says Basu.
KBC, the desi version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, went on air in July 2000. It was yanked off the air for a season's break In January 2002. Star had originally planned to launch the new series in December 2002. As a pre-run, The Best of KBC was aired in September 2002.
At that time, the channel had plans to whet the audience's appetite before the new season. However, the show failed to take off as scheduled, with reports that the busy Big B was too busy with his film commitments.
Now, with things in perspective and Bachchan keen to complete the remaining episodes, it's time to brush up on the GK. |
