The webisode concept happend is thanks to STAR. STAR is the leader in the industry and they come up with the most novel ideas, we chose to launch as a webisode, so we could reach not just people who can tune-in from their homes. The show is targeted towards young people, and we just want to make it accessible for them.
It is also intended to strengthen the 8 PM slot of STAR Plus. What is the reason behind the diversification of Rajshri into television domain? How did you come into the picture?
Two reasons, Sahara was approaching Sooraj-ji for a while, we were also keen on diversifying into television industry. Rajshri wanted someone within the family who will be in constant touch with Sooraj-ji and oversee the business and that is where I pitched in. Business wise it was a conscious decision. Today, 50 to 60 per cent of Indians prefer television and only 26 per cent watch cinema due to its exorbitant pricing of tickets. You assisted Sooraj in the making of Main Prem Ki Diwaani Hoon, didn't the glamour of the industry lure you?
Cinema is definitely my future, but television is where my focus lies, for now. By November, there will be a major revamp in the organization, Rajshri will be coming out with a lots of movies. Vivah
is in the final stages. What is unique about Pyar Ke Do Naam, Ek Raadha Ek Shyaam?
The format of the Pyar Ke Do Naam, Ek Raadha Ek Shyaam
is unique, it is about reincarnation - a format that has not been used in Indian television till date. The story starts in the 60's. The progress of the story from that point will be very interesting. The music is by Naveen-Manish.
In our other project, Who Rehne Wali…
which is set in a chowl
, the costumes and set up is designed appropriately, likewise we have tried to get as close to reality as we can, all Rajshri Productions are about special moments. How was your experience working in Main Prem Ki Diwaani Hoon with your brother Sooraj?
Working with Sooraj-ji was brilliant! He is my guru
, along with my uncle and my dad. They have thought me to be organized and compassionate to everybody around. What about Pyar Ke Do Naam, Ek Raadha Ek Shyaam will click with the audience?
It is a love story, about special moments. It is for people who believe in the concept of soulmates... and for those who don't believe, so they could start believing. How did you zero in on the two leads - Indernil Sen Gupta and Bharka Bisht?
Developing the two characters was very interesting. We choose them very carefully after lots of auditions, they have given their best, and are very promising.
The characters go through two births. Their body language had to suit a person in the 60's and then they go on to be someone here and now. We have taken care of the societal norms that existed then and that which is present now.
We were looking for someone who is fresh for the love story. Indernil does not have the conventional hero shades and Barkha is very ideal to the show. Why didn't you thnk of acting your self, you have given many shows as a classical Hindustani dancer, did you consider it?
Acting is out of question for me, I come from a very conservative family. Being part of cinema is my dream, but it wouldn't be as an actor. Rajshri will be going strong and we are trying to bring it back to the glory of old times when Rajshri had upto 12 films releasing in a year.Who is your biggest competitor today in the television industry?
All production houses are good in their own ways, the concepts that are being tackled are challenging, and many of their programmes are unique. It is great to be here! What is the biggest challenge in television industry today?
Today, the audience is varied and everything they want is just a click away, and one has to give them something that will hold their attention. Shows have to constantly cater to what they want. People have some expectations from Rajshri and we are here to live up to it.What do you have to say to all television viewers?
