Kareena Kapoor's abrupt departure from Harman Baweja's launch film, Love Story 2050, isn't as simple as "date problems".
The actress shot for the film for a week and was very excited about her role — till things turned sour and she walked out. There is more to the incident than the actress and filmmaker Harry Baweja are letting on.
Says a source, "Kareena and Harman have been partying together for years. For her to do something like this was shocking to the Baweja family.
No matter what his public statements, Harry is still in a state of shock. She actually shot for a seven-day schedule for Love Story 2050, on a set that cost Baweja Rs 16,00,000.
Anyone from the film's unit will tell you how excited Kareena was at the start. But then, she gets charged as quickly as she loses interest – that's Kareena. After the first schedule, she requested the Bawejas to shift her dates. Harry was aghast. He clearly told Kareena that this behaviour was unacceptable.
'Harman may be new and he can shuffle his dates according to your convenience. But the rest of the unit is made up of veterans who have a lot of work,' Harry told Kareena. But she didn't listen. She kept shifting the dates around. Harry finally saw she had no intention of shooting.
He called her secretary, Zayed. Harry had his special-effects team from the US coming down and couldn't afford the delay.
Kareena's secretary finally told Harry she didn't want to do the film. There was nothing he could do then. He didn't even ask her why. But the Bawejas went through hell."
Continues the source, "Harry had no choice but to issue a joint statement with Kareena, saying they had parted amicably. They decided not to get into a public fracas."
But those who know the truth are aghast by Kareena's unprofessional attitude. "Didn't such whimisical behaviour go out of fashion with Kishore Kumar and Rajesh Khanna?" says a female actor who was offered the role.
