Shankar ropes in A R Rahman for Sivaji

Behindwoods
August 27, 2005

Shankar and A.R. Rahman have been a potent combination giving wonderful music for great films. All their seven

projects together have been box office hits. In the recent Anniyan, Harris Jayaraj was the composer. Although the songs did well, the background score did not jell well with the movie and was not much appreciated by the audience. Therefore, Shankar is interested in bringing Rahman back with the Rajini film, Sivaji. Rahman has already scored music for Rajini's Muthu, Padayappa and Baba. Since the songs of these films were chart toppers, Rajini is also keen that Rahman should compose the music for Sivaji.

A R Rehman composes the music of Akbar - Jodha

  Behindwoods
  September 10, 2005

The cute guy of Bollywood, Hrithik Roshan has now joined with Ashutosh Gouriker for his latest movie Akbar –

Jodha is a known fact for all of us. This movie has got A.R.Rehman for scoring the music. Rehman gave an open speech that he will no more work for period films. But he has been booked for this movie and the movie has got 12 songs. Then what motivated Rehman to score the music for this movie? It was because of the long lasting relations with Ashutosh. The duo has already given two super hits such as Lagaan and Swades. So, they want the songs for this movie to come out well.

After Effects !!!!!
Rang De Basanti - Audio reviews after movie release

Music is also outstanding. Especially Pathshala and Title Track are appealing and fantastic. The song don't interrupt the story but instead they lift it. A R Rahman has once again proved his excellence.

A R Rehman is in top form as he sinks in the film's thematic core to come up with some of the most compelling melodies of this season.

Sukhwinder Singh about A R Rahman

''Rehman is a saint. He so simple and humble, that a person like him can be a saint and nothing else. He is all music. I have never seen him charged because of success or failure, and it is this quality which makes him a genius.''

A R Rahman on poverty
"Millennium Development Goals are actually to end poverty. THey are all connected and the ultimate goal is to end poverty. Single drops make a clean ocean and then we as single persons have the power to change things and then we are united, and then we push our governments to do what they have to do for us. Every year 2 million people are dying of Tuberculosis and there's been a cure for 40 years, and its quite a shame actually becuase the governments are not putting things together for people to access the medicines.

We are the first generation that can end poverty and we refuse to miss this opporunity. We have no time to lose. People are dying, children are dying, so do something now. No excuses, promises must be kept. All our voices together is going to make it happen. We are 6 billion voices and the world will do what we say. Only with your voice."

A.R. Rahman, Musician

Music review from Article "Not history, but wonderful mythology"

The song by itself is one of the most brilliant musical creations by the genius of composer AR Rahman. If most listeners haven't warmed up to it sufficiently yet is because Rahman is always ahead of the curve of audience expectations, not recycling old successes, but constantly inventing new melodies and rhythm patterns that need growing into. And to our luck, he is superbly complemented here by Javed Akhtar's evocative lyrics and Kailash Kher's unique voice creating a musical milestone that will last for years even outside the annals of film music. The song does not really interrupt the flow of events as some critics have alleged— it provides a emotional commentary on the happenings and throws a choral highlight on the narrative. Except for the mujra number which is meant to be enjoyed for its own sake, the other numbers (the Holi number, the gypsy number and the qawali) have been well integrated into the narrative and not staged as set pieces.
