SMASHITS MUSIC REVIEW OF TOM DICK AND HARRY
'Tom Dick and Harry' comes as the most innovative comical attempt of this year that is loaded with funky music with the protagonists being deaf, mute and blind. This is Deepak Tijori's first major attempt at comedy and it comes with this film as he tries to define new sense of comical timing. His last few films ('Khamosh' and 'Fareb') were crime thrillers that got severe beating at the box office as this time he tries different genre. Tijori's has put great effort in pulling out finest soundtracks from the hottest musical talents in the industry. 'Tom Dick and Harry' comes with acting expertise of Dino Morea, Jimmy Shergill and Anuj Sharma in the roles of "Tom", "Dick" and "Harry". Unfortunately none of them is able to deliver a hit in recent times but it is hoped that the combination might work wonder. Sex bombshells -- Celina Jaitley and Kim Sharma -- add the glamour quotient with their oozing charm and appeal. The film is about comical adventures of deaf-Tom (Dino Morea), blind-Dick (Anuj Sharma) and dumb-Harry (Jimmy Shergill) living together as paying guest. Gulshan Grover, Shakti Kapoor and Kunika are the supporting cast of the film.
Hot shot music director Himesh Reshammiya renders delightful and upbeat music for this film. This composer- turned-pop- singer has been a wild rage and his brilliant work is carried this year with albums like 'Aksar', 'Banaras-A Mystic Love Story' and 'Shaadi Se Pehle'. The album has been in top slot with the hot "n" happening track "Jhoom Jhoom" plus some fine Sufi rock embellished in the other soundtracks. The album provides mind-blowing musical entertainment with 12 original soundtracks (6-original soundtracks with their 6 remixes). DJ Akbar Sami remixes these trendy soundtracks with disco beats and peppy tunes. The original soundtracks of 'Tom Dick and Harry' can be heard on T-Series.
Himesh Reshammiya's multifaceted musical genius is fully explored as the mood gets groovy in the opening soundtrack "Jhoom Jhoom". If "Dhoom Machaale" caught the teenager's attention then this peppy number has been ruling charts from the day it was telecast. After "Jhalak Dikhlaja" and "Lagi Lagan", this Reshammiya song has been the talk of the town and has been shot exclusively as music video to promote the film. Himesh Reshammiya's "nasal" twang is in full throttle once again as the funky westernized orchestration runs in tandem with the vocals. Sameer's lyrics are flooded with contemporary words and phrases but fits well in the soundtrack. DJ Akbar Sami's funky disco beats are at work again to remix this vociferous soundtrack in "Jhoom Jhoom (remix)". It pumps vigorous passion as the percussions and heavy loaded orchestra supply the needful punch.
After male outburst with the mike it's time for feminine magic on the dancing floors as Sunidhi Chauhan along with new talents Ahir sings "Cheena Re". This time the soundtrack comes with a dosage of hip-hop music in a funkier way. A number that is totally dedicated to flare passion on the dance floors is treat for urban youth. Sunidhi's voice is well suited for the occasion with some hot "n" happening lyrics. DJ Akbar Sami is genius at work with optimum work from keyboard and synthesizers as he remixes this soundtrack in a delightful way. It's second in succession in the album and it shapes in the mould of party album. A great trendy musical work!
The mood gets softer with slow paced notes as Himesh Reshammiya sings soft sentimental soundtrack "Tanha Jiya Na Jaye". New female singing talent Ahir renders her voice briefly with added hip-hop lyrics echoing in the background. This may not be as striking as "Jhoom Jhoom" but catches listeners' attention with its trendy feel and touch. DJ Akbar Sami mixes fast paced raunchy tunes in slow and sentimental soundtrack that lifts the tempo of the soundtrack.
A usual hip-hop feel and touch returns with yet another funkier soundtrack "Tere Sang Ishq" by Himesh Reshammiya and Tulsi Kumar. It might be recalled that the combination of Tulsi and Reshammiya pumped up magical ecstasy in 'Aksar' number but this is an ordinary affair. The over-aggressive vocals of Reshammiya and sublime voice of Tulsi Kumar are not compatible to lift the spirits of the song. DJ Akbar Sami's remix is impressive and sounds much better than the original soundtrack. The fast paced funkier beats in the remix version work as energy booster to the soundtrack. The remix version is on air as the next soundtrack used for the film promotion. Scottish flavored music is infused to boost passion with full throated vocals of Kunal Ganjawala in the high-pitched soundtrack "O Mitra Re". Kunal Ganjawala breaks from his usual style of singing and after "Teri Yaad" ('Vaah Life Ho To Aisi') he is back with another impressive number. The rhythm and feel of the song reminds of RD Burman sung and composed "Samundar Mein" ('Pukar'). The trendy European dance music is new catch and finds a relevant place in the soundtrack. "O Mitra Re" (remix) is conventional club number that is designed for the collection of DJ's and should work wonders in the parties and discos.
Traditional Goa folk lyrics and music is camouflaged with upbeat rock music in the concluding soundtrack "Yue Kasi Kasi". It's reliving to hear echoing Sonu Nigam in the song along with folk and throated voice of Richa Sharma. The song has been conceived to reflect the love tale in the Goan style. Sonu Nigam's fine vocals are added blessing for the album and the effective chorus is a big bonus. This sounds like another great work by Reshammiya in plagiarizing folk culture in trendy way after rendering contemporary disco tracks. Like previous remix versions the remix version is another treat for the pop generation and will add to their collections.
Himesh Reshammiya scores pure gold once again and should be complemented for being the most consistent musical composer of the year. The music of 'Tom Dick and Harry' has given enough promotional grounding for the film. It is speculated that the album should be a rage among pop genre and if it succeeds at the box office it will get big sales boost.
