HE'S BACK!!

Himesh Reshammiya, who whipped up such a frenzy of interest as a judge on 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa' will be back this week on the earlier music contest's new avatar 'Ek Main Aur Ek Tum'.

"It was like a homecoming for him," said the disernibly excited show-director Gajendra Singh after the recording . "Himesh is as charged and revved-up on Ek Main Aur Ek Tu this week as he used to be on 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa'. He encouraged the contestants by praising them profusely rather than being uneccesarily stingy with compliments."

It should be mentioned here that last week's star-judge Alka Yagnik seemed to be unnecessarily harsh in her judgement on all the female contestants on 'Ek Main…' Says Gajendra, "Himesh was a riot. He was so charged he enthused the participants."

Says Himesh, "I had a great time. To me, being on 'Ek Main Aur Ek Tu' seemed no different from 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa'. Some contestants were really good. I really enjoyed Twinkle-Biswas and Aishwarya-Ujjaini's performances." Himesh even sings his 'Aap Ka Suroor tracks' with these singing couples.

"To have them sing together in a compatible unit is not easy. I think the Sa Re Ga Ma participants who had to sing solo had it much easier. On Ek Main…the two singers have to match each other's scales and styles. That means they have to lose some of their singing identity to accommodate their partner. That isn't easy," explains Himesh.

One singing pair Raktima and Vishwanath gets eliminated this week. "Due to Vishwanath's misconduct last week they lost out on a lot of votes," says Gajendra Singh. "Our audiences aren't into vulgar antics."

Upen pins hopes on 36 China Town

Upen Patel is on a roll. The supermodel's debut film, Abbas-Mustan's 36 China Town, releases on May 5. HT City caught up with the actor, who stars with Akshaye Khanna, Shahid Kapur and Kareena Kapoor.

Excitement galore: There are butterflies in my stomach as my debut film is ready for release. But I am excited, too. I am really looking forward to the film. It's such a fantastic script and I play the parallel lead. It is a murder mystery. I couldn't have asked for a better break -Subhash Ghai (Mukta Arts), Abbas-Mustan…. I am the USP of the film. I appear at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Learning Hindi: If you are in Hindi films, you have to learn Hindi. There's no point making an issue out of it. I am taking diction classes. There are people like John Abraham, Dino Morea and Katrina Kaif who didn't know much Hindi when they started off. People who have lived here can speak but those who haven't need to learn.

Stylised character: My character is called Rocky, who is a very fun-loving guy. He is also very innocent. I did do a lot of rehearsals for the role. I also went to acting schools, learnt dancing and other things. I had to instil mannerisms for the character. It is a very stylised character, quite like me in real life.

Supportive co-stars: Oh my God! They were very supportive. Akshaye Khanna plays the cop who comes only in the second half and the first half revolves around Kareena, Shahid and me.

Working with Ghai: He has always encouraged me. He has always said I have potential and a great physique.

Action role: I have a few action sequences in the film, but they are very slick.

Different job: Modelling is all about attitude, but acting is much more than that. The two can't be compared. Yes, acting is a hard job.

Himesh rocks: Ashiqui, by Himesh Reshammiya, is my favourite track and I am so happy it's a big hit. I hope the film also turns out to be a hit.

Signing spree: It feels great. I am doing Suneel Darshan and Vipul Shah's next. Then there is Abbas-Mustan's film. There is no pressure. I am the surprise package of the film. There are so many things that I have to learn, things that I think I can do better.

36 China Town : Preview
24th Apr 2006  23.55 IST
By Nikhil Kumar

'36 China Town' is a murder mystery revolving around a number of usual suspects. Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapur play two fugitives in this thriller.

Produced by Subhash Ghai and directed by Abbas Mastan duo, '36 China Town' is a thriller with a big starcast. Besides Shahid and Kareena, the movie stars Akshaye Khanna , newcomer Upen Patel , Payal Rohatgi , Isha Koppikar , Tanushree Dutta , Paresh Rawal and Johnny Lever.

The movie has Shahid Kapur playing a struggling actor named Raj. Kareena Kapoor plays Priya, a girl who was ditched by her boyfriend just before her wedding. Raj and Priya are strangers to each other, until fate brings them together with a promise for them to make some money.

The money is the reward Raj and Priya hope to get for reuniting a lost child to his mother. The mother is Madam Sushmita, a high-profile woman who owns a casino and runs other illegal businesses. She has lost her 5-yr-old son and offers huge reward money for anyone who finds and brings back her son.

Raj and Priya go to Madam Sushmita's bungalow number 36 in China Town to reunite her lost son with her. But upon reaching her place at midnight, they find Madam Sushmita murdered.

Shocked, Raj and Priya run away from the scene of crime. But in hurry they forget their suitcase there. They also leave behind their footprints. This evidence makes them prime suspects in the eyes of the police who comb the city to nab them. Raj and Priya become fugitives.

Akshaye Khanna plays inspector Akshay who takes charge of the case. As Akshay racks his brains to solve the murder mystery, the list of usual suspects increases. The case becomes more complicated than it appeared at first.

Among the other suspects are Sonia and Vicky, a married couple. There is also a high society playboy Rocky (Upen Patel) who was spotted near the bungalow on the night of murder. Even the old butler Natwar (Paresh Rawal) is one of the suspects.

The plot thickens as inspector Akshay investigates deeper into the case. Who is the killer? And what is the motive? Are Raj and Priya innocent? All these questions will be answered in what would apparently be a riveting climax of the movie.

'36 China Town' has music by the current favorite
Himesh Reshammiyaand lyrics by Sameer. The movie features five songs and a promotional music video which will most likely roll with the end credits.

This promotional video is choreographed by Remo and features many Chinese dancers. Ahmed Khan has choreographed the remaining songs.

The main cast of the movie is young and fresh and the film also has a modern and hip look. Shahid and Kareena have previously acted together in
Fida , which wasn't a success at the box-office.

'36 China Town' is set to hit the theatres on May 5.

MUSIC REVIEW OF 36 CHINA TOWN

By Satyajit - Eye TV India Bureau

Jukebox

Spine chilling suspense, kidnapping, ransom, engrossing murder mystery and loads of spunky and joyful musical soundtracks encapsulated in honey coated love story sums up the escapades of '36 China Town'. Showman Subhash Ghai comes out with his biggest presentation of the year after 'Shaadi Se Pehle' with the estimated budget of Rs. 300 million. The film has the basic sugar and spice of thriller with the galaxy of stars comprising Kareena Kapoor, Shaahid Kapoor, Akshaye Khanna, Isha Koppikar, Payal Rohtagi and model-turned-actor Upen Patel. The subject of the film conceptualizes the genre who believes in earning mega bucks overnight. It highlights three genres of people - one who earn and help others, second who earn for themselves only and the third one who commits heinous crime to materialize their dreams. The crime thriller specialist director duo Abbas- Mustan directs this potboiler and is expected to hit theatres during the last week of May this year. The director duo's first association with Mukta Arts' 'Aitraaz' was a prosperous venture and this promises another entertaining endeavor. It was this director duo that gave Shah Rukh Khan and Akshay Kumar their breakthrough success films like 'Baazigar' and 'Khiladi, respectively. The glossy and flashy promo of '36 China Town' has already been a rage and the music has hit charts in a big way. Teenage pop sensation Himesh Reshammiya promises his finest work and the funky number speaks volume of his vocal and musical panache. Reshammiya has earlier composed the music for Subhash Ghai's 'Aitraaz' and recently released 'Shaadi Se Pehle' with success. The hot "n" happening music director has tasted success working with Subhash Ghai and promises to maintain his winning streak with this album. Experienced Sameer has provided joyful and trendy lyrics to the funky beat music of Reshammiya. The music album of '36 China Town' has 11 upbeat soundtracks that can be heard on Tips.

ROCKING!!! The word is perfect for the bouncy, racy, and cloud bursting opening soundtrack "Aashiqui Mein Teri". The nasal twang of Himesh Reshammiya, funky "Chinese" musical percussions and loads of funky beats make this special for all occasions. The stuttering pace of the words "Aashiqui Mein Teri" is synchronized brilliantly with fine sets of funky beats in a raunchy style. The song has the background whispers of "36 Chinatown" with westernized club music to rock the dance floors. The song brings memories of Reshammiya's earlier hits like "Nikkamma Kiya" ('Kya Dil Ne Kaha') with additional Sufi style of musical arrangements. Sunidhi Chauhan clubs with Reshammiya and adds feminine grace to pump up the passion on the dance floors. The energetic and vibrant feel of the soundtrack is colossal and promises to climb charts within days of its release. The film has been promoted exclusively with this soundtrack featuring Shaahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Tanushree Dutta and Upen Patel. The song comes in another delightful version with loads of spunky westernized beats by DJ Akbar Sami in "Aashiqui Mein Meri (remix version)".

Hot "n" happening yuppie impact dominates all through 24x7 (the 24 hours in 7 days) with loads of trendy passion in the soundtrack "24x7 I think of you". Rollicking to the core it blends out the quizzical one-liners with pompous youthful zest in the highly animated voices of Shaan and Sunidhi Chauhan. Himesh Reshammiya camouflages the beats and rhythms of "Boys are best" ('Chura Liya Hai Tumne') and "Taaza Taaza" ('Kya Dil Ne Kaha') with his trendy style of musical arrangements. Sameer's lyrics are snazzy, witty and speak the youthful flamboyance in whimsical way. A sure shot hit in succession and should pump spirits of the album and the film. DJ Akbar Sami mixes fast pitched funky beat in this trendy to make it special for discos in the "24 X 7 I think of you (remix)".

Himesh Reshammiya punches Latino music in hip-hop style this time, that comes rocking all the way in frothy and peppy soundtrack "Badi Dilchaspi Hai". The hot "n" spicy yuppie feel of Latino music can be felt in this slow moving funky soundtrack sung by KK and Arya. Sameer's lyrics might sound bizarre with "Mujhe Tujhme Badi Dilchaspi Hai" but overall it has resounding feel. If you have cherished musical tracks of Shakira, Ricky Martin and Jennifer Lopez then this is going to get you. DJ Akbar Sami's reverberating beats are once again to pump up mood in "Badi Dilchaspi Hai (remix)". It's fine piece of remixing work and it will boost rage in teenyboppers.

The shaking and gyrating rendition of "Rock your body", free flowing rock "n" roll music comes rollicking way in sentimental soundtrack "Dil Tumhare Bina". The nasal plunk of Himesh Reshammiya is back again with the able support of melodious and versatile Alka Yagnik. The song has emotional feel despite the fact the soundtrack has been conceived to pump dancing floors. Reshammiya's last composed film albums like 'Tom Dick and Harry', 'Humko Deewana Kar Gaye' and his pop album "Aap ka Surror" have similar tracks. His numbers like "Samjho Na", "Naam Hai Tera" (Pop album- "Aap Ka Surror") and "Tanha Jiya Na Jaye" ('Tom Dick and Harry') have been conceived on similar feel. The album gets party touch with yet another remix version ("Dil Tumhare Bina (remix)") coming your way by DJ Akbar Sami. This time Reshammiya chooses stylish Sunidhi Chauhan in this hip-hop club remix that is sure to hit floors in a big way. The Afro-American style of rap music is added to give it typical disco touch, and it works wonders.

If the sensuous "Dil Keh Raha Hai" ('Kyon Ki') has touched your heart and soul then this rhythm and blue soundtrack "Jab Kabhi" will impress you. Kunal Ganjawala's full throated voice gives the sympathetic and romantic feel of immensely emotional lover for his beloved in this mushy love song. Ever reliable Alka Yagnik sings the female part with finesse once again and makes it a perfect duet number. The soundtrack has soulful lyrics by Sameer that have long lasting impact. The song might have been a listening pleasure for the composer as it comes out in two remix versions. The first remix version is by the contemporary hot favorite DJ Akbar Sami and the second by another eminent Disco Jockey (DJ) Suketu. DJ Akbar Sami's remix version is high-pitched rendition of the original soundtrack mixed and spiced with club music. DJ Suketu's remix version brings out the trendy feel of hip-hop and rap "n" reggae touch. This version sounds funkier and groovy and will be ideal for lovely evening. The sensuous feminine whispers in the beginning followed by the criss-cross rap lyrics create the tempo for fine remix track.

Himesh Reshammiya has a winner up his sleeve in succession after the tremendous success of 'Aksar', 'Humko Deewana Kar Gaye', 'Tom Dick and Harry' and 'Banaras - A Mystic Love Story'. The singer-cum-composer has coagulated his previous fine musical work with present musical trend in a remarkable way. The album comes in fine package of original soundtracks and remixes versions and will find acceptance in the pop genre.

In nutshell, SUPER HIT, ROCKING and BRILLIANT!

Clap
