Deepika Padukone sizzles with Reshammiya
IndiaGlitz [Thursday, April 20, 2006]

This could have been as unusual as it gets, but guess what; it is working in a big way!

Himesh Reshammiya and model Deepika Padukone pairing up with each other and dancing to the groove! Now how many would have indeed expected it to turn into a reality? And that too with successful results!

But that has really happened in a rocking manner as the two come together for the music video of remix version of 'Naam Hai Tera' from Reshammiya's superhit album 'Aap Ka Surroor'. Innocatively shot in bottle green shades on the sets of a battleground, this Prashant Chaddha video has everything from barbed wires to missiles to army trucks to explosions to LOTS of attitude as Reshammiya and Deepika dance along passionately with horde of dancers in the background.

Deepika manages to make a strong impact in the video and sends a message loud and clear to the industry that she is there to stay. Incidentally the song has fetched the best response for the album after other hit numbers such as 'Tera Surroor', slower version of 'Naam Hai Tera' and 'Samjho Na'.

36 China Town

36 China Town belongs to the suspense and thriller genre directed by the talented duo Abbas-Mustan who are known for their thrillers. The film has been produced by Subhash Ghai and stars Akshaye Khanna, Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Tanushree Dutta, Payal Rohatgi and debutante Upen Patel. The cast is young and fresh and the film also has a modern, hip and cool look to it. After Shahid and Kareena's onscreen chemistry in 'Fida' did not generate any hype and did quite poorly at the box-office, once again, an attempt has been made to give this real life couple a good onscreen chemistry. Upen Patel, model turned actor's performance too is highly anticipated. After Aitraaz, which received good reviews, let's hope directors Abbas Mustan mange to deliver another sure shot firebrand with 36 China Town. Music composer for this film is the current popular, most wanted Himesh Reshammiya, and the lyrics are by Sameer. Each of the songs in the album have a remix version, which has been done by Akbar Sami.

'Aashiqui Meri'- This zingy, snazzy and happening number is sung by the one and only Himesh himself and mid-way Sunidhi Chauhan joins in to modulate her voice giving it an ultra glam and sexy sound. The song begins with a mysterious and slightly eerie touch, which is just apt for a thriller. It has high bass beats and an enigma kind of tune. Musical arrangements and rhythm is completely western. To add in mystery, the words China Town are thrown in regularly. Reshammiya makes no effort to depart from his constant and popular style of singing, but even this is a plus point for the song. The lyrics too are good and the song will definitely make it to the chartbusters. A 'remix version' by Akbar Sami increases the beats, tempo and pace of the song making it even more appealing. A complete dance track which will be immensely enjoyed by party lovers.
Score: 8/10

'24x7 I Think Of You'- This song rendered by Shaan and Sunidhi Chauhan is reminiscent of songs from the film 'Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya' with Salman and Katrina. It has been given the same kind of tune and treatment. The song is a youthful and peppy one. It is a romantic love song which has average lyrics and an even pace. The picturisation will perhaps be beautiful foreign locales, which will set the mood for the song. The use of 24x7 in songs is an innovative trial technique, which could surely give rise to a new trend in lyrics. There is also a 'remix version' by Akbar Sami, which is basically the same with an attempt at increasing the pace and beats. A nice, sweet and listenable number.
Score: 7/10

'Dil Tumhare Bina'- This is another song done by Himesh and Alka Yagnik accompanies him. The song is rendered in the traditional Reshammiya mode. It has a similar note to his recently popular numbers, Humko Deewana Kar Gaye and others. It begins on a slow sad note, but then takes on a faster, livelier pace. The song depicts how the lover feels without his ladylove. The lyrics 'Rock your body' is heard consistently throughout the song to give it that hip feel. Alka Yagnik gives the song her best and adds a good touch to the overall effect of the song. This romantic song has its dose of Reshammiya charm and will definitely get popular soon. The 'remix version' by Akbar Sami is jazzier with funky and heavy beats. It also has a sizeable dose of rap in between to funk it up a bit. In this version, Sunidhi Chauhan joins Himesh.
Score: 8/10

'Badi Dilchaspi Hai- This is a song by K.K and Arya and is a foot tapping number. This too has the Himesh stamp, but belongs to his earlier style of songs, prior to 'Aashiq Banaya Aapne' days. The pace and lyrics of the song are average. It is induced with more of western musical arrangements. Unfortunately, the song is just okay and has nothing exceptional. Even the 'remix version' by Akbar Sami only adds to the pace and rhythm, but does not manage to turn it over much. A number perhaps that is just a filler in the film.
Score: 6/10

'Jab Kabhie'- This song has three versions, the original and two remixes. The original is sung by Kunal Ganjawala in a soft melodic manner. It is a nice love song, which creates a mushy and devoted feeling. The melody, rhythm and pace for the song is apt and suits the mood. The lyrics by Sameer are also nice. The song is a very emotional and beautifully sung love song. Alka Yagnik joins in for a bit. The song is about a man who is completely and hopelessly in love with his lady and wants to be with her always. There's an 'Akbar Sami-remix version', which is only three minutes but is quite lively and entertaining. Finally, there's a full length 'DJ Suketu- remix version' that has a lot of fast beats along with rap-reggae fused into it. A different song for the album, which is indeed appealing.
Score: 8/10

The album is another winner for Reshammiya. Apart from his tracks that are no doubt good, this one has songs by others too that are rendered and composed well. An overall album by Himesh that has a good mix of tracks with a variety of pop, rock and jazz. An album that definitely has at least three really good songs and even the remixes are fairly good. Here's another feather in Himesh's cap. A good and entertaining album.
