hi everybody!

as everyone knows, Hariharanji is one of the greatest singer of all times and he is one of the judge of EMAET.. Hats off to gajji for this decision.. Hope to see good comments and better decisions than challenge 2005...

As he is one of the judge, lets see some of his works and post abt good works of him.. Hope abhiji helps me more in this...

This is what I have collected...

He's probably the only Indian singer to have made a name for himself in every genre of popular Indian music. However it is significant to note that Hariharan's entry into the entertainment world as a vocalist came about because of his passion for the ghazal. Born on April 3rd, 1955, Hariharan grew up in Bombay and has a Bachelors degree in science and law. The son of renowned Carnatic vocalists, Shrimati Alamelu and the late H A S Mani, Hariharan naturally inherited his parents' musical talents. He initially trained under his mother acquiring a very basic knowledge of Carnatic music. However his parents bore a very open mind toward music and the young Hariharan drifted toward learning Hindustani Sangeet as well.

Very obviously influenced by the ghazals of Mehdi Hassan and Jagjit Singh, he started his training in ghazal singing from Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan. It meant putting in as many as nine hours of practice daily as well as taking formal lessons in spoken Urdu to perfect his command over the medium of poetry. The effort paid off and today his impeccable Urdu diction results in his shows being huge successes in places like Lucknow - the heartland of Urdu poetry. For a singer with South Indian origins this truly is a commendable effort. Hariharan's affinity for ghazals lies in the fact that ghazals offer, in his words, "immense scope for innovation".

In 1977 Hariharan bagged the top prize in the All-India Sur Singaar competition and was promptly signed on by the late music director Jaidev to sing for the Hindi film "Gaman". His ghazal "Ajeeb saane he mujh par qarar" in that movie became such a hit that it won Hariharan an Uttar Pradesh state award, and Hariharan's playback singing career took off. In his early years Hariharan did the concert circuit and also performed on TV. He sang for a number of TV serials, e.g., "Junoon". In addition, he cut several successful ghazal albums. He wrote the scores himself for most of these ghazal albums. One of Hariharan's first ghazal albums was "Abshaar-e-Ghazal" with Asha Bhosle, which scored Gold in sales. Another outstanding ghazal album was "Gulfam", which not only hit Double Platinum in sales but also fetched Hariharan the Diva Award for the Best Album of the Year in 1994.

Now Hariharan is a much saught after playback singer in Hindi as well as Tamil movies. He has also teamed up with Leslie Lewis(also one of the other judge of our show..) to form the group "Colonial Cousins". Its to be seen whether he persues ghazals with the same vigour, now that he even has a pony tail !!

Hariharan took the Indian musical scene by storm in 1996 with his phenomenally successful "Colonial Cousins" album, a collaborative effort with Leslie Lewis. This Indian-English fusion album, which consistently topped the Indian musical charts in 1996 and even became the first Indian act to be featured on MTV Unplugged, won Hariharan the international fame that had eluded him in his more than 15-year career as a recording artiste. Trained both in Carnatic and Hindustani music, this Tamilian from Bombay first made his mark in an unconventional way -- as a ghazal singer. But his fame was restricted to a small coterie of ghazal fans. Hariharan has also long sung for Hindi films and for Tamil films since 1993 but, ironically, it was an album in which he has sung in English that catapulted him to the heights of fame. Since that success, there has been no turning back; acclaim after acclaim followed. Hariharan is now the most sought after film singer in Chennai. Mumbai's filmdom has also re-discovered him. In 1998, Hariharan received the prestigious Indian National Film Award for "Best Male Singer" for the Hindi song Mere dushman mere bhai from the movie "Border".

Recent releases ... "POWER", the movie, starring Hariharan ... "DESTINY", the album, featuring Hariharan and Daler Mehndi ...

That nationalistic song from the 1993 movie "Roja" was the first song the Trivandrum-born, Bombay-based Hariharan recorded in his mother tongue. Two years later, he bagged the "Best Male Playback Singer" award in the Tamilnadu State Government Film Awards for the song "Konjanaal poru thalaivaa" (Aasai). There has been no turning back since then in Hariharan's Tamil singing career. Today, he is indisputably the No 1 singer in Tamil films. The list of his songs is becoming ever harder to maintain ...

He has sung many tamil songs.. I have the list.. If anyone interested, they can pm me...
