Why was she still not home??... "preeto di...pick d call...plz..."... baani was getting increasingly worried...wen she heard d key turn in d lock...& preeto walked in through d back door of d Dhillon house...& without a word went straight up to the terrace... "She saved me from Ranjeet, but destroyed her life."..thought baani bitterly...

D soft sobbings had awakened meeta...& now she looked from afar...her boldest sister...defeated... Thank god...pankaj had come in time dat day... d scene had shocked her...pankaj supporting an injured bauji &...preeto...she was barely able 2 stand up... Two weeks...& only bad news...d war had officially begun...& dhruv-jogi were called 2 d outposts too... Situation at dhillon house was very tense... "Main apni beti ko nhi jaane de sakti masterji.." Her father looked at her sad eyes...& was reminded of Rajbeer...d day he had left disappointed...after his claim of banjeet being in d pub was refuted... as preeto sat on her knees and looked up at d person whum she was so similar too.. Bauji said, "ek wada karke ja puttar. Jab wapas ayegi to humari preeto ko bhi sath lekar ayegi. Uski bahut yaad ati he.."

"main tujhe akele nahi jaane dunga"... Pankaj's pleaded as preeto walked off..."sab meri galti he.." he thought.. The Miltary van left with Preeto... and Pankaj was reminded of d last proper conversation he had with Preeto.. "Par tu rajbeer ko kyu nahi batati?" "Tu mera sath dega ki nahi?" "kya karna he?" D farthest hospital camp was quite a distance away from the border...but d days were filled with artillery sounds...and nights with d thick smog created by all d gunfire...It suffocated preeto initially...But dere was too much work..a regular flow of wounded personnels had 2 b looked after...d medical team was small but efficient...& had managed to train volunteers like her... Each time a medical van came, her heart raced in d dread of seeing a familiar face... & soon a day came wen d sight of d person lying on d stretcher... made her cry out in anguish... "nahi..."
