The episode will be a special one, and will feature an appearance from the queen of soaps, Ekta, herself. She will play a sutradhar in the one-hour episode, a deviation from the regular half-an-hour show.
Audiences all over India and even abroad have laughed and cried with the Virani family, and shared their troubles from Monday to Thursday at 10:30 pm for almost five years.
While the endless wait for Smriti Irani (Tulsi, left) continues, soap-queen Ekta Kapoor (right) walks in. Dressed in an Abu Jaani-Sandeep Khosla lehenga choli, she looks beautiful. As soon as she arrives, there is pin drop silence on the sets.
"It feels great to shoot the 1,000th episode of my serial. But it is scary too, as it means more responsibilities. The storyline has reached a deadlock, and needs a jump now -- which is why the 20-year leap. Tulsi will not be answerable to her grandchildren for her deeds," Ekta says.
She feels Ba and Tulsi are the binding factors of the serial and after Ba dies, it will be the sole responsibility of Tulsi to keep the family together.
Ekta will face the camera for the 1,000th episode. "I have sent strict instructions to the cameraman not to reveal my fat and just show my face!" she exclaims.
Smriti Irani walks in and jokes, "I think there is a lady on the sets today" while hugging Ekta.
Irani says, "I still remember April 5, 2000, when I gave my first shot in a Chandivli studio. While I was trying to portray myself as a heroine there, Ekta told me she was not looking for a heroine and wanted me to become a tragedy queen. If I cry, the nation should cry with me."
She adds that nothing has changed in the last five years "except that I have grown fatter!" The generation gap does not surprise Tulsi. "I am used to it! Gautam, in real life, was my schoolmate and Karan is two years older to me! Imagine how I feel when they touch my feet on screen. But I am an actress, kya kare…"
