Four guys and the unavoidable journey called life. Akki, the cool radio jockey; Nitin, the trivia spouting nerd; Raghu, the theatre-unto-himself married man and Ram, the suave venture capitalist, have little in common except the warmth, camaraderie and fun that they share. Dil Kya Chahta Hai is a light-hearted look at these four young men living in a city.

The dreams, aspirations, attitudes and quirks of the four men and their eventual coming to terms with their own selves form the basis of this cheerful, slice of life drama. If Akki sheds his immaturity, Ram learns to love again while Raghu and Nitin triumph over their inadequacies.

Tackling quintessential male issues that impact the average urban male, DKCH is a series that reflects life in a big city and what it means to be a man, with all its faults, failures and successes. In short, a show for our life and times.

Akki: Well, it all looks very simple, but, Akki's problem is one of excess. He loves too much, wants too much out of life and knows too little about anything! And that, in a nutshell, is Akash Saxena.
He also has the problem of being talented but directionless. He is a star radio jockey - a position that came to him very easily. The talent was inherent and he was at the right place at the right time. He believes his life can be bigger than it is. He is hungry for more excitement, more experience and more money!
He also is on the look out for perfect love and has a mental picture of what his ideal woman would be like. In comes Ira and Ira is nothing like it. Ira is the new Senior Marketing Manager who has joined the station he works in. She is smart and intelligent and therefore, rubs him the wrong way. However, unlike most of his women, Akki is merely attracted to, Ira becomes a friend eventually. Akki learns to accept reality, find true love and eventually make peace with his restless inner self.

Nitin: Nitin plays second fiddle to his mother. He has factored her into his life to such a degree that he cuts his life around her life, her 'value system', her dislikes and her dependency on him. He doesn't question it, doesn't even think about it. He's just accepted it and lives 'their' life, not his own.
As far as love was concerned, Nitin started out thinking he "will meet the special woman, marry and have sex, children etc.," which later turned into "will meet special woman, have sex, maybe marry etc.," which then turned into "have sex" - and that's where he is right now. Eventually Nitin learns to balance Mom and love successfully when Sarika enters his life.

Raghu: Raghu is broke. He barely runs his theatre. Madhavi, his wife, sportingly supports him. It was the understood thing before they got married. Raghu, two years younger than Madhavi, is a few light years behind her in understanding human relationships. His reaction to any minor crisis is usually extreme and so, a major crisis between the two leads to a separation. Raghu also has to deal with almost losing his beloved theatre. Raghu grows up as he learns to cope with realities of life.

Ram: When we first meet Ram, he is the text book definition of a Casanova, maybe even a playboy. To the audience, he is not a very 'nice' guy.
Particularly from Akki's eyes, Ram already has everything. What no one knows is that Ram had found his perfect woman and lost her. So Ram has done everything that Akki wants to do, he is free, independent, successful and well to do. But the cost is that he is cynical. And actively, in his solitude, indulges in self-loathing.
Ram's motto of "love 'em and leave 'em' undergoes a gradual change when he meets Sadhvi, an antithesis of all the "bimbos" Ram is usually seen with. Ram learns to love again - unconditionally.
