Quotes about India .

We owe a lot to the Indians, who taught us how to count, without which no worthwhile scientific discovery could have been made.

Albert Einstein.

India is the cradle of the human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend and the great grand mother of tradition.

Mark Twain.

If there is one place on the face of earth where all dreams of living men have found a home from the very earliest days when man began the dream of existence, it is India .

French scholar Romain Rolland.

India conquered and dominated China culturally for 20 centuries without ever having to send a single soldier across her border.

Hu Shih

(former Chinese ambassador to USA )

BUT, if we don't see even a glimpse of that great India in the India that we see today, it clearly means that we are not working up to our potential; and that if we do, we could once again be an evershining and inspiring country setting a bright path for rest of the world to follow.
I hope you enjoyed it and work towards the welfare of INDIA .

Say proudly, I AM AN INDIAN.

What do you all think, and what should be we do to improve the situation?

Minnie i was thinking the same thing recently . I just started reading the famous bestseller "The World is flat- A brief History of the twenty - first century " by Thomas L. Friedman . I just read the first chapter , but i have a quote from his book- Chapter 1 .
On his visit to Infosys - he described his experience "Young Indian engineers , men and women, walk briskly from building to building .,dangling ID badges. One looked like he could do my taxes. Another looked like she could take my computer apart . And a third looked like she designed it !"

I will read more , i believe this book has written many flattering things about India !! Smile

I also posted one bbc survey that shows that the "world" has a postive opinion about India's role globaly . One can take that survey apart . But in the U.S itself i personally have felt that the West has a high opinion of us Indians .

My husbands colleaugues , my American neighbours all speak about Indians with such high regard , that itself makes me proud to be an Indian !! Tongue

Sorry to dissapoint and all that but this is a feel-good chain mail that has been going round for years. Some of the mentions are obsolete (eg. Hotmail is no longer No 1 and Rana Talwar is no longer with Stanchart).

Also, statements like Chess was invented in India and India culturally dominated China for 20 years are all quaint falacies. They are unprovable and highly debatable (in fact, that is exactly what we are doing right now).

India will truely emerge from its slumber when every single home in every single village has paved roads, running water, powered irrigation, a telephone, a refrigerator .......

India shining examples are all taken from the success stories of the urban hep. Until we can write at least one success from the rural for, say, every 10 from the urban, my country will remain a sleeping giant.

God Bless my country.

Although i agree with Jataya and Chweety as well . But its like looking at the percepective is the "glass half full" or is it "half empty" !

I preffer to look at the postives and work on the negatives .

I will continue to work for a cause in my own small way . Besides the other problems you mentioned , the other issues are animals are not treated well in my Country . But what the heck am i doing about it . In my own passive way i will make regular donations to my cause and join in to the cause that can help animals of my Country .

If some one believes in female infanticide , and girls not given education could sponsor a girl child .
There are many ways to help the people of our Country through the various NGO's and organistations . If you feel strongly about making India truly a developed Country , you can always do something about it in your own small way that fits your time and pocket . I would not crib and see my glass as half empty , but will remember the riches India has !
Still feel proud to be an Indian ! Tongue

I again say, rich people who have more resources and capacities, can do a lot more.

I agree with you . I wanted to adopt immediately and found all the information from CARA and other agencies, but was let down as i am on a Visa and can not bring a child to the U.S untill i become a citizen of U.S or go back to India .Sadly thats the situation , but my intentions are very much there .

Although many rich Indians with more resources are doing things for India . But every body isn't . If every body did , things would be so different.

Friends, the solution does not lie in charity alone.

While true that charity is needed for some, true growth will come from the American model where every individual has to to contribute - to add value - and generate wealth. Sadly, the rurals are still dependant on either free or highly subsidised loans, electricity, fuel ...

Glass half full or empty is correct, but I feel to move forward, we need to focus on how to make the glass full full and not be let complacency set in beause it is half full.
