well even if we don't compare KTLK and DK even then it is little bit difficult to digest nidhi's behaviour for ashu. in last episode the way she react when shahenshah told her that ashu is in his cabin was like Confused. don't know how to express her immaturity. the way in which she overreact on everything related to ashu is not looking good. i am not against her but don't like her behaviour. i haven't seen any girl who is in love behaving like this.

Lastly I am liking this show a lot mainly due to MB and there are less number of characters with less su.b-plots & no saas-bahu scenes or kitchen politics.

nidhi is not that young. she is 24 years old and at this age girl behave with maturity even if she is in love. you can't land up to a person's home early in the morning everyday even if you like that person. its good that you want the person out of his pain but then again there would be a proper time to do that. this little thing makes KTLKConfused

agree with u that most of the viewers including me watching this show for MOHNISH BEHL. just love this person and can't resist myself.LOL

I agree with everything you said. I admit I like romance between them but when it is subtle, like you said. I do not care for four days of hari-channey ke curry-making and eating. I swear if I hear that word again, I will be tempted to stop watching.

I agree with the immature, cringe-worthy behavior. Watching these scenes where she is being "cute" and rushing into his personal space makes me hope that no woman behaves like this. It is not cute and certainly not proper. She is being repeatedly told she is in love and she does not get it. The preview today showed that she just realized that she is in love. Screaming it off rooftops does not convince me of their love. It HAS to be DEVELOPED, just as you said.

The whole specialty of a May-to-December love story is it's slow development, not immature, inappropriate behavior. Men who go for young women because they make the men feel younger again are different from the character Dr. A is. Those men are in a mid-life crisis, this man is just supposed to reluctantly fall in love. The creatives have cheapened it or just don't have the capability of handling this kind of subject matter.

First of all, allow me to say that I love the way you write.

It's rare to read such a well-written and well-thought out post.

Now, to the topic itself.

I have not seen DK and was quite unaware of its existence till KTLK was announced. I remember reading a lot posts since then about the original and the fear that the Indian version might not live up to expectation.

Nevertheless, I was excited over the prospect of watching KT:K mainly because of MB...and, when the show began, I did watch with bated breath...and waited for the shoe to drop.

Well, in a nutshell, it didn't drop!

In other words, I  agree with your take a 100%. I don't have the knowledge of the original to compare it with, but I still feel exactly as you do.

The cvs' headlong rush into portraying the romance makes little sense to me. Tampering with the character of Mallika makes no sense at all...the almost cartoon caricatures of some of the side characters annoy. Nidhi's attitude towards the good doctor almost that of a stalker!

Needless to say, I've stopped watching the show out of sheer disappointment.

I can't imagine how you must be feeling.

PS: I enjoyed reading all the responses to your post as well

Beautiful post...and as a diehard DK lover... i agree in to-to!!

There is absolutely ZERO build up for AshNi... no basis or logic for Nidhi suddenly falling in LOVE with Ashu... again no logic for Ashu opening up to her ...n tolerating her.. buzzing around him so frequently..!!

As already said by few other post-makers... 'Subtlety' 'Build up' 'Rationale' 'Depth' are few of the things that are glaringly missing in the show... and are therefore the reason why... KTLK will never be a GOOD ENOUF adaptation to DK...ever..!! (Tho we can hope it redeems itself.. but i have my serious doubts!)

Having said this... with all its failings...KTLK is one of the BESTEST shows on TV right now... with leads..who are good and perform well...! Not only that.. some of the 'so called cliche' scenes such as rain scene-follow up convo ..the tea date.. have all been beautifully executed and there is a touch of novelty in them..!!

I did like to look at the glass.. half or say.. .quarter filled.. n continue to hope that someday.. it truly brims with the excellence it had promised..!! U write really well n i wuld request u to make more posts... hopefully ..highlighting the GOODS of KTLK... however less and rare it mite be...! :)

I almost never post anything on this forum, but this post touches on so many things that I have been thinking about that I have to respond. I had heard of DK in my childhood, but watched it online just recently after hearing that KTLK was an adaptation of it. I absolutely loved DK and for that reason also the first few weeks of KTLK when practically every scene was copied from DK. Then Nidhi quit and things went haywire! I kept wondering why Nidhi quit? I had wondered the same thing about Zoya ' why did she stay? The answer lies in a small scene in one of the early episodes that almost went unnoticed. When Anjie asks Nidhi to talk to her dad about fashion design Nidhi boldly goes to his office, pulls out the red lamp and marches in even though she knows that Anjie's dad will be very angry. In the corresponding scene in DK, Zoya goes up to his office very boldly but then seeing the red lamp becomes scared and enters only after Anjie insists. Therein lies the difference between the two characters. Zoya is a product of 80s Pakistan ' ebullient owing to her upbringing but also very cultured, ladylike and measured. Nidhi on the other hand is the product of modern India, she is of the Internet generation ' strong willed, fearless, aggressive, smart (after all she got 14th rank) and most of all supremely self confident. She wants what she wants and no one can stop her from getting it. That explains both of their decisions. Once Nidhi is freed from her father's promise to her mother and she only has to think for herself, she takes the decision to quit because she doesn't want to be a doctor. She doesn't let emotion get in her way ' earrings, children, etc. I know girls like that! But Zoya makes a more emotional decision ' after all he did return his earrings, which humanized Ahmer for her.

When Nidhi develops a crush on Ashutosh, she becomes as we all often do ' restless, eager to meet the object of our affections. But then we act with caution and restrain ourselves. Nidhi doesn't care for restraint. If she wants to see him she will, as she says, "Jab dil karta hai tab aa jaati hoon." She is willing to work to make her place in his life. And using this brashness she pushes through Ashutosh's defences. As he says, "Woh ladki pagal hai, mujeh bhi pagal kar degi. Par us se naaraz bhi nahin raha jaata." She is like this strong wind that blows away everything in its path. Hence we see him softening to her advances. So the progression of the story is well explained by the characters.

Now whether I like this progression of the story is another matter all together. I don't. It is too filmy for my tastes ' the rain and making tea in the dark and everything else. The situations are very unreal ' how many people really stop the car to get wet in the rain in the middle of the night? After that episode I have found myself cringing several times at Nidhi's behaviour and a few times at Ashutosh's actions too ' yes I mean the alarm clock as you said :) But then I guess I am old fashioned ' I also cringe when some of bolder friends do certain things so that says a lot! I loved the romance of DK. The most romantic scene was when they sit by a sick child's bedside and him sleep by telling him a story and there is a single light coming in from an open window. Absolutely beautiful! None of the scenes evoked such a response in me except that one line in the wedding scene where Ashutosh says to Nidhi, "Agar aap kisi se naaraz hain to bhool jaaiye." It was natural.

I guess this is a reflection of our times. We don't have patience to watch a slow serial. I also posted some thoughts on this on my blog. You can check it out if you like

and

Still as you said I continue to watch KTLK as an eternal optimist that the CVs will turn this around.
