He knew she'd be there. Where else in this mansion he called home, would be a more appropriate setting for her? The serene blue pool, surrounded by lush green foliage, blanketed by the twinkling white stars in an ink filled sky, the soft yellow moonlight pulsating to it's own rhythm of mysteries. His only place of comfort, his solace... And, now... Hers.
She was seated, again as he walked up behind her. His breath caught in his throat as he hoarsely whispered her name. She turned as if surprised, but not entirely... Somehow she knew he'd come looking for her.
A stumble, another firm grasp... She almost missed feeling the pain shooting up her ankle. But, it was real, and terrible...
He eased her gently into the garden chair, and knelt before her. Startled, and unable to comprehend, she searched his eyes, those deep fathomless pools filled with an intensity which shook her, so she looked away, and pulled back her aching foot.
He looked up questioningly, she refused to meet his gaze. Jaw set in determination, his eyes commanded, hers conceded. He eased her hand covering her ankle almost protectively, and placed it in her lap.
Torn between pain and confusion, she looked away from his darkening frown, as he eased her throbbing foot to his knee, glancing up, the frown deepening. She looked away... Unable to reconcile the gentleness of his touch, to the heart of stone she otherwise encountered.
She felt, more than watched the hem of her sari slide up. Shock registering on her face, at the ease and authority with which he did it. As if, not for the first time... As if staking his claim. The pain returned as he touched the place of injury, and yet it felt soothed.
He knew it had to be done, there was only one way... "This will hurt a little" he said, his voice gentle. One moment of fear in her eyes, till she met his, and gathered her strength. She trusted him, much as she didn't think she ever would, she knew now that she did. She felt her shoulders relax, she leaned back and almost instantly felt the sharp pain shoot through her... as in one swift move he twisted her ankle into place. A scream, fingers gripping his shoulder, her eyes shut tight... His gaze never wavered from that beautiful face. Almost as if he was willing her pain onto himself.
Once more... And, this time the scream died in her throat, as she gasped, out of breath, and felt the pain lift and fly free...
Does it still hurt? He asked, as she looked into his eyes and saw a million more questions there. Questions she never thought he'd ask. Bewildered, confused, and almost angry at herself for that, she started to pull her foot back.
His grip tightened, firm but gentle... promising. His eyes promised more... Much more... And her eyes searched his... Then, widened in disbelief, and awareness...
As they focused on what he was so humbly offering...
To be contd.
