Khushi and Nathaniel sat at their local haunt, the D'souza's pub. The sound of the waves breaking on the shore, and the salty air coupled with Nathaniel's cheerful company had managed to uplift Khushi's downtrodden mood. And the ice-cream that Mrs. D'Souza had served her, had returned the sweetness to her aura.
Nathaniel took another sip from his ice-cream shake as he processed everything that Khushi had told him two hours ago. There had always been a certain mystery about her. Something about the way she'd hold herself back from being truly happy. Though she'd try to look it, he always knew that she wasn't. Something that spoke of the vast sea of pain that she carried behind that beautiful smile of hers, the smile that had never reached her eyes. She had never divulged any details about her past, and he had never pushed her. Had waited for her to feel secure enough to confide in him.
And today she had. His blood boiled when he heard of the treatment that his dear friend had been subjected to. And his heart ached with the pain that she had had to endure all by herself. How could god meet out such pain to someone as beautiful, as lovely and as kind as Khushi! A strange sense of protectiveness filled his being, as he felt the need to protect his friend from anymore hurt.
He had spent the last couple of hours cheering her up, and did not intend to broach the subject again until she felt a little better about it.
"More ice-cream?", he asked her with a smile.
"No thanks. I think I'm done!"
"No match for your Jalebis, eh?", he said cocking an eyebrow, which forced Khushi into peals of laughter.
"I've told you a thousand times before to not do that Nathaniel! You look like the alien from that movie you showed me. What was it called again?"
"Yes! That one exactly!"
"How about lunch tomorrow?". Khushi nodded at Nathaniel's question.
"That sounds like a great idea! We've been so busy lately with all the new designing work, we've hardly had time to take a break! How about we go have some pizza at Dominoe's!"
"No. How about we go some place nice?"

Meanwhile, Arnav was sitting in a posh restaurant in a five star hotel. He had been forced to attend a lunch meeting with one of the investors involved in the launch. She was a twenty-six year old widow of a fifty-five year old, very rich man, and had inherited all of her husband's money following his death. Known as a prodigal woman with extravagant tastes, she moved in the top elite circle of Goa with more class than she in reality possessed.
The women called her a man eating vulture, and preferred keeping their husbands and boyfriends out of her way. Common knowledge held that the woman was a mistress at the art of seduction, and was always on the lookout for a handsome man to sleep with. Since her monetary desires had been taken care of by her dead old husband's will, she was now in search of a compatible lover.
Arnav had been heavily against the idea of meeting with this woman for lunch, but Aman had insisted that he go 'cause no matter the type she was, her involvement could bring in a very generous sponsorship from her side. So now he sat opposite this highly annoying lady, trying to make small talk with her, while she tried to get his attention to her womanly attributes.
Rubeena was running out of ways to entice the rich, young and handsome entrepreneur sitting forth her. It was a deadly combination to be found in a man, one that she wasn't going to just let slip away. She had deliberately worn a low cut red dress which ended around her upper thigh, just a little below her hips. Her lips were smeared with red lipstick, and her eyes were smoky. She looked every bit a seductress, except for the fact that the man opposite her was nowhere close to being seduced. Twice she had spilled her wine down her cleavage, hoping to pull his attention to her new pert silicon breasts, but he hadn't even spared her a look. Instead he had just told her to hold the glass properly the second time she had done it. But no matter how hard to get he played, she wasn't going to let him go. Sooner or later she'd definitely get into his bed. After all, she hadn't gotten where she was by giving up!
Right when Rubeena was laughing unnecessarily at something not so funny that Arnav had just said, Khushi walked into the restaurant with Nathaniel.
All pairs of male eyes looked up at the delicate beauty clad in a red chiffon saree who entered on the arm of a handsome man in black dress pants and a white dress shirt.
Arnav noticed the sudden change in the atmosphere as he searched for the object of every man's interest. And what he saw, he did not like at all. Khushi looked lovely, true. But the annoying acquaintance by her side crushed out any peace that her ethereal beauty should've brought to his heart. And if he had thought that the afternoon could not get any more annoying, it did. Not to mention the urge he had to supress to blind every male eye that was busy admiring his wife at the moment.
Rubeena noticed the sudden change in her companion's deameanor. If he had looked nonchalant a minute ago, he looked furious now. She wondered what he was staring so angrily at, and turned to find a beautiful young woman clad in a red saree to be the object of his attention. Here she had been trying to get him to look at her for the past one and a half hour, and in walks this saree clad classless bitch and has all of his attention! No! She wasn't going to let that wh**e take away what was hers!

Khushi once again laughed as Nathaniel yet again gave her that extra-terrestrial look.
Arnav clutched his fork harder as her musical laughter at that scumbag's inaudible joke floated to him from across the room. He had been watching them like a hawk ever since they had entered ten minutes ago.
Rubeena was getting more and more frustrated at the way Arnav was not even acknowledging her presence anymore. His eyes had not left the beauty in red ever since she had walked in. Yes, the woman was undoubtedly beautiful, she agreed to herself with a grimace. But that did not mean that she was any match to Rubeena's class or sex appeal! And the experience that she had in bed! She was sure that if she could get ASR in her bed once, he'd never dare leave her side, but that was clearly going to be impossible if he kept looking at other women!
She knew what to do! The best way to get his attention was to show him how better she was to that other woman. To undermine her!
"What sort of classless people are let into these posh restaurants these days! Look at that scrawny little thing in a saree! I wonder what the man by her side was thinking bringing her in!"
Arnav had been too busy trying to control certain very violent urges when he was brought out of his reverie by this impertinent insult to his wife. He glared at the woman he had been enduring the past one and a half hour. How dare she speak thus about his wife! He was about to put her in her place when he heard another bout of musical laughter float from the woman who had had his teeth on edge ever since he had met her. He looked around to see that they were no more seated at the table, but had moved to the dance floor, and were dancing to Bailamos in swift elegant moves. By the looks of it, it seemed that the two were acquainted dancers, and were clearly enjoying the ron-de-vous.
Arnav saw red as Nathaniel again pulled Khushi in a close embrace and he flung his napkin aside and pushed back his chair decidedly.
Rage coursed through his veins as walked to where the pair of them were busy waltzing in each others' arms. And roughly pulling them apart, he punched Nathaniel across the face.
