Yet another season of Kaun Banega Crorepati. And look who can't have enough of the TV show
Amitabh Bachchan, who has just turned 69, chats about the latest season of 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' while he awaits the arrival of his grandchild.
What is the most precious gift your wife, Jaya, has given you?
Shweta and Abhishek.
Very soon, Aishwarya-Abhishek are also going to give you a sweet gift.
Let the gift come, then I will tell you.
Will you spend more time with your grandchild than you did with your children, Shweta and Abhishek?
Grandparents tend to spend more time with their grandchildren than they did with their own children. Jaya, of course, could spend a lot of time with Abhishek and Shweta. But I was busy with my career then; we had ridiculous timings. There is always the pain of not having been able to spend as much time as I would have wanted to. But hopefully, when the grandchildren arrive, we will be able to spend more time with them.
The latest season of 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' is also a success. How would you describe your journey with this show?
'KBC' has been a revelation to me. I have been involved with 'KBC' for the past (almost) 11 years. For the show to last so long, you require dedication of all the members of the crew. They worked through days and nights to put this show together.
The season five of 'KBC' saw you interacting more with the aam aadmi.
They are all people from our own country but we are unable to imagine the kind of state they live in, the kind of environment they stay in, the troubles they face — you and I don't know that because we stay in such big cities. When I saw them, at times, I would feel embarrassed to see the state they were in. But their courage to achieve the things they wanted inspired me a lot. India is great because, despite the living conditions, some of our countrymen display great potential and knowledge. I am happy to reach out to them and perhaps, in a very small way, try and convert their lives. Every contestant who has come on the hot seat has in some way had the opportunity to change his life.
Your story has been an inspiration for many; which contestant's story has inspired you the most?
Each one's story inspires you in some way or the other. Your heart goes out to them.
At times, when you know that the contestant is going to give a wrong answer, do you feel like stretching out and helping them?
There are a lot of people who have not seen more than Rs. 10,000-Rs. 20,000 in their lives. So when they do something that probably won't let them reach their desired destination, I feel like helping them. But whenever I get an opportunity, personally, I do something for them.
Several Bollywood stars made their appearance on KBC this season. Whose IQ was the best?
Recently, I played with Shah Rukh and before that with Imran, Shahid, Sonam, Saif, Deepika and John Abraham and Ram-Saakshi from the TV show 'Bade Acche Lagte Hain'. I enjoyed playing with all of them. It would not be right to say who is more educated than the other.
It's been said that you are the most sought-after and successful TV host.
I disagree. There are so many who are better than I am on television.
On the show, we see a lot of women going gaga over you. moony when they see you. At 69, are you embarrassed or do you enjoy it?
I am grateful they find something still attractive about me. I am very embarrassed about it.
What are you looking forward to on the film front?
I am going to Australia to shoot for Baz Luhrmann's Great Gatsby.
