For had the Tsunami not struck his village, the little boy (born with a heart problem) would have never come to the notice of Vivek who reached the south Indian village Devanapattinam to help in the relief and rehabilitation work.
Early in his childhood, Ali was diagnosed with a heart complication and doctors had told his fisherman father Abdul Razzak that an operation would cost about Rs.1,00,000 – a medical bill that is quite unimaginable for a fisherman to foot.
But then the tsunami struck and Vivek reached the village.
"We heard a big actor from Mumbai was in the area, helping the survivors," Ali father told IANS.
The hopeful father approached Vivek and told him about the child's ailment and the Bollywood star promised him help.
Vivek kept his word and soon Ali was moved to the Apollo hospital in Chennai where he went through an open-heart surgery to close the hole in his heart. Vivek footed the medical bill.
Today Ali is recuperating and eager to return to school. He has a dream – to become a doctor. And all this became possible only because of the large heartedness of Vivek.
