He sat down on the sofa, an expression of exasperation all over his face. His mind wandered, wandered to the morning it all began changing for him. It was an ordinary morning but then again nothing had been ordinary since Priya came into his life. She was like the odd livewire he had avoided like the plague. She made him smile, she made him laugh and she made him live for himself ' all the things he had distanced himself from.
Priya wasn't very different from him, at least not when they had decided to get married. But being away from the responsibilities of keeping a household running had strangely let her loose. She was more a child now after marriage than she ever was before. She was like a bird let out of the cage. Though Priya had had a perfectly happy life and lead a protected existence, she had begun living for herself only after marrying Ram. Without the tensions of the next pay check, the responsibility of laying down food on the table and the commitments of professional life, she had begun discovering who she was.
Unattached, happy and confused were the emotions that best described her now-a-days. She was unattached to duties, happy about being with Ram and being married but confused at the happiness she felt when she thought about him. Wasn't it a sacrifice, a marriage of convenience?
And then it had happened. Their first brush with intimacy wasn't anything you read in romance novels or saw in those epic romance movies. It wasn't even intimacy in the real sense of the word but for them it had all the connotations of the word itself. What had started out as a normal morning for him had ended with him on the bed with her before work had even begun. He had been embarrassed that morning, and it wasn't because of the video she had of him. She could keep it for all he cared, and he actually loved seeing her smile because of the video. He was embarrassed because being with her had felt so natural, looking into her eyes had felt good like he had finally found someone who could see his true self. He remembered the gaze they shared, it was strangely romantic. Romantic, a word he didn't know the meaning of, a word he had never experienced and a word he had kept out of his life forever.
Five minutes and many a smiles to himself later he told Dadi that he would go check in on her. Walking up the stairs he came back out of his thoughts and realized how angry he was at being made to wait. The movies she had said, her parents would be there too and Natasha really wanted to watch the movie. That was the ploy she had used so cleverly. She knew he wouldn't refuse it if it meant something to the people he cared about and she had used it against him. He knew it was her who wanted to watch it but going for it without Ram would add to the suspicion of things not being well between them. Why couldn't she be on time, just this once?
