My intial reaction of the apology was that it was done to appease his own ego and to prove to himself that he can apologise and not have difficulty in saying the 5 letter word..

Once said it was a relief for him to have said it and for Kushi to hear it..

I think ASR got away with it lightly and that his apology was taken in the right spirit by Khushi..For all his put downs ASR has said in the past to her, Khushi was kind and very revealing in her feelings of the lose of her parents..
