After a whole lot of drama on television, Kamya Punjabi is now moving towards comedy. In her first comic role, Kamya will be seen in Karnik Production's comedy titled – Gullu Gambhir and Company (G2C) on Star One.
Interestingly she is the only female actor in the sitcom that revolves around the lives of ten army guys and situations they go through.
Giving details about her character she said, "I play a nurse called Deepal Shah, not be mistaken with Deepal Shaw. The role excited me because of two reasons. One was the opportunity of doing comedy, and second the chance of being the only female in the show."
Even though as a nurse she has to look sexy, the clothes given to her don't exactly define the word. "I am wearing baggy pants and a long shirt in military colour. It's not the typical white skirt ensemble that people would expect. I am really looking forward to the show being on air soon."
Good, bad and evil
Currently seen in the negative role as Kamya in Woh Rehnewali Mehlon Ki, the actress says she enjoys playing different shades. "I don't like to play goodie roles for too long, or be too much of negative character either.
It's always nice to be offered characters that have a disctinct trait and are not the usual run-of-the-mill roles. The only reason I took up a negative role in Woh Rehnewali is because the character does make difference to the storyline and has more to do than just look evil."
The creative head for the show, Manisha gave details. "The attempt is to bring forth a genuine comedy.
Kamya has some interesting scenes, since she's the only woman in the army cantonment and is always under the glare of the men. Since the ten guys have been forced to join the army, we have made situations where they not only goof around but also realise they are doomed."
The show is tentatively scheduled to go on air in March.
